I've been having problems with this motor for a while and haven't figured out the problem. I hooked up my consult thinking the problem would be obvious but i can't figure it out, so any help is appreciated.

It's a Type x s13 sr20 in my 96 240. It had 1 fault code (knock sensor) which i bypassed with a 1M ohm resistor. Now that code doesn't show up so i think that's fine for now (will buy sensor later).

The problems i'm having:
-Slight misfire
- Idle is unsteady

I took 4 screenshots on ECUTALK once it warmed up. I noticed that idle would be at around 1k when everything seemed fine. All of a sudden the car hesitates, the "ALPHA" gauge would drop from 100 to 70 then the idle would rise to 1400, then the O2 gauge would raise from .55 to 1.55. Then everything goes back to normal ( 1k rpm, .55 o2, 100 alpha) and after another 20 seconds the whole things repeats.

I believe this is normal condition, the idle is a bit high but the rest seems normal:

Right here Alpha has dropped while the RPMs are increasing

At this point RPM is high, Alpha has gone back to 100 already and the O2 is reading 1.53

I have a question. Do you know what the alpha feedback is? Not important right now there are physical things that needs to be addressed. Tps voltage set to .044v-.045v. Make sure you sync timing with whatever consult program you use. While setting timing adjust base idle. I like 850rpm. Before those things are done make sure you have little or no boost/vacuum leaks. Get more logs/scrshots, but there should be an improvement in idle and driveability.

Thank you for the response, greatly appreciated.

Alpha i believe is air / fuel. not 100 % sure but I was just looking at what changed right before the idle became unstable.

I sprayed carb cleaner through every pipe joint i could find and saw no bubbles or erratic change in idle.

I changed the TPS recently because mine went bad and I'm not 100% sure I set that correctly so let me give that a shot.

Thanks again, i'll update with more screenshots

Use an air compressor and soapy water to check for boost\vac leaks. If your idle is high you usually mis leaks with carb cleaner. Don't forget timing, with a light.

The o2 sensor is supposed to rise and fall like that

your tps is low as well should be .5 at idle warmed up, since your idle is higher than normal I would assume the tps should be little higher than that also, but I would start with .5 and see if that helps

curious, what ECU do you have and what 02 sensor are you running? reason being is that ECUTalk isnt supposed to be able to read the "fat" style blacktop 02 sensors from my understanding.
