so i read modifeid magazine build up and they ground off the casting marks from their rods, and then polished them, i did that to a couple of my spare rods, making sure to not take off any more than the casting marks and ruff stuff, and it looked pretty decent, now keeping them balanced i still have to do but i need to ge thte scale next week, but i m wondering if maybe i cut down on the strength of the rod, either way i will get them cryo treated also. but it just seems to me like hte casting ridge could ad soem strength, but i donno cause it s also a stress riser. so i m not sure that the casting would help it at all. basically jus tlooking for soem further advise before i get to a stage where i cant easily turn back.
so let me know what u guys think, the guy that races alot of stuff at nissan said it was a good thing to do to the rods cause it cuts down on windage also.
so here are my choices:
stock cryo treated with arp bolts
polished/lightend cryo treated with arp bolts

I know DIY is the way to go, but put down the tools and step away from the rods.
Seriously.. there is a reason that balancing a set of rods is a couple hundred dollars, as well as micropolishing. A shack and sandpaper won't do anything good imo.

Just buy a set of forged Titanium rods instead.

if i wanna get the motor done next year, but anyways, im not micro polishing or any thing just trying to get rid of stress risers, i think i ll just have them shot peened then cryo treated and they should be good what do you think, and i dont use sand paper, i use a dremel and drill most of the rods arent changeing taht much weight wise, just they are lighter from the casting being gone, and they dont differ in weight much yet

Cryo treating is real cheap. I was quoted $400 for my entire motor. Rods should be cheap. Have the rods professionally balanced.

MicroPolishing is for the bering surfaces.
Grinding off the casting marks will reduce stress points. Having a pefectly smooth rod will create a surface tension effect that can increase cracking. Have them Shotpened to ruff up the surface of the rod and make it stronger.

qouted $20 for 4 rods, thanks for that input i d have to say thats what i ll do, yah i knew micropolishing was for the bearing surfaces, but jeff240sx said that was what i was doing, i went down to 120 grit on what i started...... far from micropolished.
