They've been imported, yes, but I don't think anyone has ever legalized one (please note the difference between registration and legalization... the S15 will never, ever be legal).

move to canada for the 15 year clause, buy one in 2014 and bring it here. drive it.

Until then i wouldn't hold your breath. Or win the lottery and crash 4 of them.

How bout skylines? I dont' mean Motorex either. I mean how much would it cost to leaglize a R32 or R33. You guys know of any people who would do the work? What would I need to do my self. Replace the windshield and all the glass for the DOT? If you call motorex they won't tell you nuttin on this. You guys have any ideas?

Actually you CAN'T drive an S15 here.
Regardless, you can't.

unless it's on the track. .it cannot be legalized, for whatever reason. . you can't crash test them and make it legal, either.

Yeah that's the post I was talking about...
I personally think the guy just doesn't care. I mean if he can afford to import an S15 I don't think he really is going to give a hell about the cops haha. Maybe I am just being dumb, but thats what I think.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels this way. I've never understood why people worship this car so much. The S13 and the S14 are much, MUCH better looking than the S15. Like you, I've always thought it looks a LOT like a Pontiac.

Not true... There's a a specific age a car must reach before it can be imported and converted (which is why Motorex couldn't legalize R34's until this month... note DLR or DST plates on any pics of R34's in the US). The S15 has also reached that age and can now be crash-tested. The guy driving the S15 had temporary DMV tags in the window, and on some occasion runs DLR (dealer) plates. I heard something about him trying to legalize it for import.

This is a list of all the aproved cars that are authorized to be imported into the US. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ELIG102803.html . And yes you do have to go throught a registered importer or RI.

There are ways to import vehicles into the US. Normally they are imported as a substancially similar to a US model. Then what happens is anything that is different between the US DOT legal vehicle and the vehicle from overseas would need to be changed to be the same as a US model. For example - headlights, tail lights, MPH speedometer cluster. The DOT no longer accepts right hand drive cars as being substancially similar to the US model unless the manufacturer provides information to the DOT stating the vehicles are substancially similar. Additionally, the engine in the vehicle must be available in the US or the engine must be certified for the US.

rethink what? lol
the pics have helped my cause. . it is not legal to drive an S15 ANYWHERE (other than a track) in the U.S. . .they cannot be legalized. .. this has been covered dozens of times on every Nissan board I've ever been on. . it is one car you cannot legalize.

but :bigok: to the guy with balls enough to actually drive one.

Yeah i've also seen him around. I met him too. That S15 is a SpecR, with 350z wheels? i took some pictures of the car too. I think he works for a company that legalizes only Skylines and Silvias, he told me that so. yeah he also told me that S15 is a company car.

He has really tinted windows too, maybe why he drives it.

Really cool guy.

In all seriousness, if you can pass the car through the ARB, you can have it registered in Cali.
