hi guys, I'm fairly new to the forum and haven't really post much. My name is Brian from Phoenix, AZ. I have a 89 coupe with redtop.
I have just got my a/c to work yesterday (Finally!! it's 110 degrees here) but I notice that it idles funny like its gonna stall on me every time when I shift to neutral . And sometimes when I turn it up to 3 or 4 the a/c compressor will stop working/spinning but when I turn it down it will work/spin back up again. Saw some white smoke coming outta my compressor today too....?????????
I have been told that I didn't wire up the a/c correctly. This is what phase2 told me:

"Hi Brian,
Your problem depends on how you wire up the a/c. If wired properly
whenever you turn on the a/c the ECU should received the signal and
bump up the idle automatically. If you wired up the a/c bypassing the ECU,
then the ECU won't know a/c is on and when that happens the engine idle
will drop low because of the extra parasitic drag caused by the a/c
compressor."

Can anyone help me with this wiring problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't wire it properly.

Estevan (escaflowne) on FA did a nice write-up on how to properly wire the A/C so that the idle adjusts accordingly, etc etc etc

Who did the A/C hookup? Did you custom fab lines or just cut & paste the SR/KA lines? How did you clear the turbo? How much did the work cost?

Just curious because I'm getting my A/C hooked back up. :)

Good luck

The AC on signal does go through the ecu (unless its bypassed), but I'm not sure if thats really what raises the idle. The ecu controls the ACC valve, but there is also a FICD valve that should remain open when the AC is on. I think its either wired to the control unit itself or to the relay, but I dont remember 100%.

Make sure both the Green w/ Yellow stripe and Blue w/ Green stripe wires are connected by the battery.

As for the AC going off at 3 and 4, i have seen a few Nissan control units where some of the numbers dont work. Do they not work on heat at 3 and 4 too?

Not sure about the smoke though. Maybe belt slipping?

I didn't do the swap myself, I had a friend of mine did it for me in socal so I have no clue about the wiring at all. But I did hook up the a/c myself. All I did was using the hardlines on the SR and welded to the right place (cut and paste) and have an a/c shop install a R134 valve on the high side of the line so you can at least get a reading when you test/charge it. Clearing the turbo is actually pretty easy. Just bend the lines out a lil so it won't touch the mani and other turbo stuffs. I spend about around $200-300 cause I had to fix my leak on the low side.
Now the idling problem isn't that bad anymore but when the a/c is off, I can hear this clunking sound coming from the compressor. It goes away when the a/c is on. I'm frustrated now.. I think my compressor is going bad... but a/c still works tho. haha
kazuo -> can you link me to that nice write-up on how to properly wire the A/C ?
Thank you guys, I'll keep the thread updated and try to post some pics.
