blacktop?

I have a 98 SR20DET blacktop with vvt and at the front of the motor just above the pullies running right along with the head there is a black tube peice that runs to the intake. Now my question is this: Is this needed? The person that had it before me has it capped off clear on the other side of the motor, couldnt you just cap it off right at the intake??

well, since your car is running fine (right?) the way it is and the tube is doing nothing right now the way it is then of course it would be fine to cap it off at the intake hose. Seems the previous owner was lazy or leaving it there for soemthing later. I can't remember off the top of my head what that's for though....sorry.
