^^^ id like to know this as well.. how much needs to be taken of the bell housing? never seen a z33 one half way for the sr

Plate is 6061 aluminum. 1/2" thick. You will need to take off 1/2" off the bellhousing. Using existing dowel pin locations on the bellhousing just need to open and ream them up slightly.

All hardware to bolt the plate to block, trans to plate and starter bolts are included.

So you only need to take off material on half the bellhousing? Does the bottom bolt pattern work on an SR?

Yes you will only need to take 1/2" off the bellhousing based off the profile of the adapter plate.

Not sure what you mean by the 2nd half of your question.

The bottom bolt pattern of a VQ35DE trans matching up to an SR20DET. Or does this only use the top half of the bolts of the transmission to hold it to the engine?

Can you post installed pictures or something??

Everyone, including me, is confused on the design. Pictures showing the required machining area would really help

There are 6 bolts that bolt the plate to the block, then 5 bolts from the tranny to the plate.

This is the same theory as the SR-VG trans plate on how it bolts on and works.

What everyone is getting at is why is yours not a full circle so you can bolt the bottom of the trans up as well? This is the normal design

You have to glue the other half on..

You can do that way, but most have to run a flywheel spacer when you run the full circle plate. I chose not to run the flywheel spacer because i feel that is unsafe so I did this plate based off something that has worked before.

so if collins full circle adapter plates are 1/2 inch thick as well then i dont see why if using their adapter plate would require spacing of the flywheel and this one wouldnt if in theory both are 1/2 in thick and both require 1/2 in machining off the bellhousing.

I'm guessing he thinks it's save to bolt the trans to the engine and adapter plate with only the top half of the bolts and nothing in the bottom half.

if you examine the collins adapter it only has 2 bolts extra on the bottom and yes it can just be 2 bolts from holding it straight and what not but the vq seems to have a dowel pin on the bottom and thats what id be more interested in securing as to having a level transmission so that the input shaft is straight with the crankshaft otherwise your looking at replacing the input shaft bearing and mains on the crank in the near future.

This adapter plate has 2 dowel pins on the plate to align the trans to the plate then you have 2 existing dowel pins on your block that align the plate to the block, so everything is centered.

The picture doesnt show the 2 dowel pins on the plate but i have put them on there.

Yes the design of this plate has been tested and running in a car although its not exactly the plate you see here but its the same concept.
