Can a 95-96 AC compressor work on 98'?

Looking to change out my AC compressor because it basically gave out. I know a guy selling a 95' model compressor and would like to know if it is compatible without modifications. Thanks

I am 99% sure the inlet/outlet connections are different in size. they are different between a 95 and 96. From a 95 to 96 i had to change my lines all the way back to the firewall and swap out the evaporator

Lines will be needed for corresponding year compressor as they are different.

1995 to 1998 are the same. 4 bolt (square pattern) s14 compressor

s13 1991-1993.5 are the same, 4 bolt but a trapezoid shape) compressor bolt up

1993.5/1994 are sometimes the early style like s13, and somtimes the later style (s14)

Now with that said, the lines themselves use the same 'flange' but you can't bolt the S13 compressor up to the S14 engine, unless you use the S13 KA bracket.



With that all considered, If you're doing an sr20 swap, and want to retain Air Condotioning, you can use of of my SR conversion brackets that allow you to use/retain the KA AC system, and bolt it to the sr20 engine.

The lines (and how they bolt) to the compressor are exactly the same. Now for as how the lines bolt to the rest of the car that I can't say 100% for sure, but I know the physical flange and location is the same.

Reason why I say that, is that with that said you can actually use a S13 KA pump, on an SR20 (of any type) in an S14, using S14 lines using the kits I make. Sure the compressors are different and need different kits, but when I adapt them it puts the flanges (again where the high and low side lines come off the compressor) in the same spot. I didn't know that for the longest time until a customer in Guam needed a replacement on the spot, and found out the S13 one worked with my correct adapter (I exchanged them for him)

I guess ill just end up getting the compressor for the 95 and weld new fittings but wanted to know anyone had used this setup before considering the part numbers are not the same. Thanks for the advice.

Unless I'm super confused, there should be be no reason to weld different fittings if you're using a DOHC R134a comrpessor in an S14 chassis.

They may look the same and bolt the same to the bracket. The lines will not work. I went thru this issue last year. I had to source out a AC comp from a kouki for my.kouki in order to use my stock AC lines. If I were you and I take it you have a kouki, find yourself a kouki AC comp and save yourself the headache or trying to get other lines and stuff.

This is honestly enlightening to me, as I've never ever ever had an issue with people interchanging compressors on the S14 cars in all the years of making the conversion brackets. The lines may be different, but the flanges/o rings/bolts/seal is the same on the cmopressor. Now the other end in regard to how it goes to the condensor, and to the firewall may be different, but I've never heard of this..and frankly and surprised that I've never heard of anyone having this issue as I'm sure they would have let me known right away.

Makes me wonder if Nissan had an odd change in the last few months of production as I have a late 97 car, and have a 95 compressor on it, and it all worked exactly the same and without any issue.

Hey cody.

I'm actually running your custom mounts. When I sold my stock kouki ka motor. I left my AC comp on the motor but kept the lines. When I installed the s14 sr, I had to source out a new compressor. I thought all the s14 compressors were the same but nope. The end of the AC line that goes into the compressors are different. I had pics on my other phone of the issue. There a few threads on here that show the difference and I didn't realize it untill after the fact. Awesome mounting brackets though, fit perfect without any issues.

Alan, I'm def gonna have to look into that as I've been in the dark for years now about this, and to be honest baffled I never took notice, especially with my Kouki working with the Zenki compressors. EEEK. I'll do some back searching again!


With that said thanks for the good words as I tried like heck to make them fit well! So it seems to be a line issue here....to the cloud I go! haha

S13 and S14 95/96 will interchange, 97/98 needs 97/98 low side line at the least. I tried to use a low side line off of a 95 on my 97 KA compressor and the compressor side would not fit. I cant speak for the high side line.
