I have been searching and most threads say yes,but I haven't found any hard evidence. I have also seen that the blacktop blocks have an extra oil port for vtc,but no confirmation. Reason for asking is I have an s13 redtop,I'm in need of another block, and I can only find blacktops for sale at the time. I have a broken main oil galley and I don't feel comfortable getting it rewelded. Can anybody chime in and give me a definitive answer? I appreciate it!

first you may want to get your terminology right...
S14/S15 motors are NOT blacktops! theyre called "Notchtops" due to the giant hump in the middle of the valve cover. instead of having an external oil catch can, nissan integrated it into the valve cover of the S14/S15 SR20de and SR20det series engines.
all S13 SR20det's are universal with one another outside of a few minor electrical parts due to ECUs (mainly 02 sensors). so yes, an s13 SR20det Blacktop block will work with your Redtop head.

The notch-top blocks do have the oil port that you are asking about. I am currently in the process of rebuilding one with my redtop head.
From all of the information that I have gathered you can do this. You need to block off the one oil port and everything will be the same.

yeah like he said. they have a extra port for the vtc. i know first hand because i blew ring lands and didn't wana cut my block but could only find redtop blocks and blacktop blocks and i wanted to retain the VTC function.
you shouldn't need to block it off the redtop head should have no oil passage so the oil should just run to a dead end pretty much
but if you finding black top blocks it should be the same. its just s14 notch top and s15 notch top blocks that change.
hope that helps!

From what I have been told and from my understanding is that oil get pushed up through that port. According to the last person who had my block that was the only issue he had come across. He said that without blocking that one port that it would seep oil through the head gasket.
Any thoughts?
It could be wrong. I just know that I am blocking mine to be safe.

I'm running an s14 notchtop short block with s13 redtop head with no issues. I had the vtc oil hole welded shut.
