I'm looking for a LSD for my S13

I got what I think is a good price for a OS Giken LSD installed, 1300.00

But that's a lot of cash for me, and will push my swap back a little further.

I can get a Nismo LSD for 699.00 but still have to install it myself or at a shop.

I'm looking for pros and cons if any one has any thoughts that would be great.

if ur drifting, why not use like a ATS or Kaaz Unit, they are cheaper and still Clutch type. THe Nismo they say is a "Street" LSD which I guess means not a lot of lockup like the other units.

my nismo LSD works fine for the drifting i've done. I dunno, unless you're pro and really need the 16 plate, super lock, adjustable goodies, why bother? Its like getting ohlins or Advanced design coilovers. overkill. do you really need it? does your skill level and envolvement require it?

kaaz and nismo are both around 700 and work fine for a car that drifts a few times a month and streetable enough to be put on a daily driver without much problems.

and LSD is an LSD is an LSD
many are made by the same companies
just buy one and go
until you get REALLY hardcore and specific on your setups and all, i wouldnt worry about what LSD you have
all are great brands and will work fantastic

I have Tomei 2-way. I'm very happy with it. 16 clutches, and a tiny bit more aggresive initial lock than the Kaaz 2-way even though they are both built by Kaaz. Good stuff. Like Dousan said they all work. well not actually all of them. Stay away from anything that's too cheap. You get what you pay for. (Phantom Grip)

I'll probably go with the Nismo and stash the rest of it for the swap. I just need to find a shop now that would put it in. This is really my first big mod on the car so I'm pretty excited. I'll probably do wheels next or coil overs.

Thanks for your input guys.

j30 is vlsd
goood for daily drive
bad for drifting/lots of racing..
j30 is vlsd.
vlsd cant compare to clutch LSD..or helical LSD
very different.

not only that, but the J30 LSD has a lower gear ratio then our cars.. if theres people drifting with open diffs, im sure u can use the J30 LSD to drift with. its not like any of us are good enough to do a complete sideways drift, so J30 is a good cheap alternative...

Since you are in LA, go up to JSPEC and get yourself a Tomei if Sam has one in stock and get it installed their as well. It'll be MUCH cheaper than $1300. Send him an email. He's out of the country right now but he'll be back on the 10th so hit him up then.
