View Full Version : What Does Your Car Weigh?

I apologize if there is a thread about this already. I'm at work and can't use the search function...
P.S. Google is not my friend this week either- I blame jr_ss :D
///////////////////////////////////////////////
We've all read the Wiki articles and other internet resources stating our 'curb weights'... That's all well and good- but sometimes it's nice to know what our cars 'actually' weigh.... There is a lot of rhetoric about how 'light' we think our cars are... and most of us have heard somebody talk about how much lighter they thought their car was after doing 'mod-x'... Here is a place to post an actual weight and whatever aspects of your car you feel may have significantly affected it... If anything, maybe to give the rest of the community a place to formulate a better guesstimation lol.
Had mine weighed yesterday and was a bit surprised at the outcome.
- 1992 hatch
- Fully built SR20, Z32 tranny
- Full suspension & brakes
- Full interior, sound deadened, stereo system, air conditioning etc
- Underbody coated with truck bedliner
- 3/4 tank of gas and me in the driver's seat (I weigh 200 lbs)
**Weight according to state-certified scale: 3080 lbs**
I figured it'd be lighter... I was wrong.
If you've had your car weighed, tell us a little about it and post the weight...
Please no guesses- the whole point of this is so others can guess using our data ;)

Here is a thread posted a while back, has some good info. 2,820 lbs. doesn't sound bad considering the +40lbs on the z32 tranny, + the bed liner coating on the undercarriage, stereo, a/c, and full interior.

im hoping to get mine down to about 2k without me in it..... I haven't had it on scales yet though....
every body panel is either cf or frp
all polycarbonate windows
partially tubed front and rear
there is nothing extra on this car exept the radio
I do have a cage, sr and z33 trans.... ill post up my weight after its weighed (should be about a week and a half)
i have a buddy who owned an s14 with sound deadening panels and some interior stripped and he said it weighed in at the dump at 2080 lbs. at first i thought he said 2800 but no. either the dump scale is incorrect or he's making this up. how possible is this?

89 hatch with SR
- no a/c
- bumper support installed
- power options (no sunroof)
- rear wiper
2630# according to scales at SCCA.
91 base model sil coupe with sil front but all same details as above = 2560#
The minimum weight for Street Mod s13 with SR is 2280 (with <275 tire, 2480 with >275s) and there are a couple full-interior cars right around 2300#.

This gives me hope. Are you full interior on the hatch?

Yes, full interior for everything.
Stripped interiors are stupid and piss me off [/oldmanrant].

My S14 with RB25 was 2850lbs at the weigh station on the side of the highway without me in it. I'm pretty sure the scale read in 25lb increments.
I have a driver side recaro fixed back seat, and oem sound deadening, sunroof, all interior panels, but no catalytic converter, A/C, air bags, stereo, speakers, spare tire, or trunk liner pieces.

Interesting so far... Thanks for the replies!
Mine will theoretically get lighter when the OEM hood goes away, but not by much; then definitely a few lbs heavier with paint etc. as the body work progresses. Hopefully will stay around 2900-ish all said and done. On the heavy side or not, she has all the creature comforts and is a blast to drive ;)

Or your friend is lying. You can't even get an S13 coupe down to that without cutting some serious metal out.
I think 2400-2500 is the lightest you'd be able to get an S14.
El, I agree, pulling all the interior out on a street car is absurd.

Damn, everyone's car is so light. My 1jz s14 is 2900 without me in it and 3100 with me. Partially stripped interior, no ac, frp hood. And with a shitty autopower bolt in cage. I am soon to get a full fd spec cage and bash bars so it will probably be closer to 3000. How is everyone's car so light?

All the sound deadening is removed. Any random unused piece is removed. No interior but front seats, dash, etc. Low fuel levels as well at time of weighing.
You also have a much heavier/larger iron block motor than the 4cyls.
Mine was 2550 lbs without me in it and almost a full tank of gas a while ago. It had a lot of weight to lose, and all it really had done to it was no trunk interior, no rear seats, FRP hood. Then I added a bunch of weight with heavier brakes and whatnot.
When I get it back up and going shortly I plan to be somewhere in the 2400-2450 range since I'm going to lose the pop-ups up front and trim a few things here and there (10-20 lbs a pop adds up quickly).
I'd be super happy if I could get it to sub 2400 lbs without me and a full tank of gas, but I don't know if that's possible with still keeping the car streetable in any sense... but who knows...

2600 with me in it... But its a 87 300zx! stock vg30et engine (cast iron v6). So, needless to say a few pounds under 2450! For a z31, thats pretty good.....

A dude who used to run SCCA in XP with his rb25 coupe apparently got his car down to ~2000#. Obviously a lot of cutting to get down to there, esp with an rb.

Seems hard to believe. Got any pics of that?
I'd love to see pics of some cars that were sub 2200 lbs curb weight. I just can't see that much structure to remove and still keep any unibody really.
