View Full Version : Ka24de won't stay running running

I did the ka24de swap on my 90 coupe I hooked up all the wiring,grounds,vacuum lines, fuel lines etc. the engine runs for a few seconds fine n then it slowly shuts down like it struggles to stay on. I can't figure out the problem it's driving me crazy. I checked all the vacuum lines just to make sure I didn't miss one. But it starts right up no problems n I have to press the gas pedal to keep it going when it's dying down. Any help or idea I would appreciate it thanks.

Check your m.a.f. and make sure your fuel pump is working

MAFS wouldn't cause the car to die out...at least not from my past 7yrs experience.

Check and make sure that you didn't cross the feed and return lines upon installation.
Although it doesn't sound likely since you said that you have to press the gas peddle to keep the car running, (slightly longer before it dies?).
Either way, I would pull the fuel feed line and see if enough gas is getting to the rail, if any at all.

Did you delete emission sh¡t?
Did you swap chassis or just engines?

Engine was swapped into my chassis I had the single cam n swapped on the dual cam.
All the emission sensor are still on. I did find a loose vacuum hose behind the cave cover that hooks up to S.C.V "brown plug solenoid from the back of the head" I guess it was broken off and the previous guy cut the connector to the EGR control solenoid. Would any of this affect it? I didn't really pay attention to the hoses when the engine was out the car n it didn't notice the harness being cut after I hooked everything up.
I didn't want to delete emission but now I'm leaning towards it. I'm gonna check the fuel pressure and see what it is. Thanks for the info I appreciate it

It's been a long time since I've dealt w/ emissions. I do know that in some cases, the idle will be higher, which obviously wouldn't allow the engine to die. Try playing w/ the IACV. Maybe it's not hooked up. Or it's bad

Edit:
Higher idle is caused by vacuum leak(s), in most cases. Sorry, I should've been more specific.

I deleted emission hooked up all the vacuu hoses with new ones n it still dies on me I haven't changed out the fuel pump so I'm thinking it might be the fuel since I have to keep pressing on the gas to stay alive. I just want to runnin good already so I need help ASAP

How much throttle do you have to give for the engine to stay running? Just a slight bit?

Yea just a slight bit. I cleaned the MAF the throttle body, IACV deleted emissions plug all the tubes not Being used n replaced every hose with new ones. I haven't checked the fuel pressure since I don't have a fuel pressure tester

Check your TPS voltage. If you don't know how to do it, there are plenty of explanation on Google.

Okay so I unplugged the MAF sensor n the car stayed on by itself without me pressing on the gas. I plugged it back in when it was running n it would shut down. So I'm assuming the MAF is bad. So now I'm on the search for a new one hopefully it's just. That thanks to everyone that help I appreciate it.

Hope im not a bother reviving this thread. My car Is having the same issues. Just swapped it from ka24e to ka24de. I know ecu is good. Im getting spark. Im pretty sure that im getting fuel. I know injectors are good. Harness is uncut. Checked grounds. Any leads? Im stumped. Thank you:))

I know the thread is old but this hasn't been suggested as a fix. If it runs for a bit then shuts down, and emissions controls were deleted, the check valve coming from the fuel tank needs to be removed and run to an area where it wont vent under your chassis (for reason of fumes getting in the car). I ran mine up behind my fuel fillet hose shielding in the inner fender and added a cheap fuel filter so nothing will get back into the hose/tank. If the check valve isn't removed the tank will build a vacuum and not pump any more gas to the engine.
