Hey guys,
I'm currently in the process of doing the t28 swap on my redtop(in a s14). I have the s15 spec r t28. As you guys may know it requires either the reclocking adapters or the s15 compressor inlet/ca18det outlet pipes. I actually ended doing the reclocking adapter just for the outlet but I used the s15 inlet pipe because I had one lying around. When I have everything back together My intake pipe actually ends up being too long and it binds in the middle. It doesn't get the proper airflow it is supposed to. The cone filter ends up smashed into the coolant overflow resevoir. Has anyone ran into this problem before? I'm thinking I may need to suck it up and get the reclocking adapter for the inlet side as well.
I know a lot of people do this swap on their sr so I'm definitely interested in hearing what issues other people have encountered.
Also, has anyone relocated the coolant overflow to any other location? I'd prefer it not to be there anyway.
Thanks for reading guys, I know it's a newb question. (It's my first SR)

Picture is worth more.
You might be able to cut the piping to fit better but once again your description isn't clear enough to form a picture in my head

Yea you are right. I'll take a picture when i have some light tomorrow. It's the stock pipe with recirculation.

I think both t25 and t28 intakes are different... if you look on the pbm website they list a separate one for each turbo. I've been searching for the answer myself but haven't been able to find any solid info.

They are a tad different. I just installed an s15 turbo to my redtop today actually... my only complaint with the clocking adapters is my power steering pressure hose pulls a tad bit of pressure on my intake now. Not enough to even bend the rubber but im obsessive. Only suggestion I have is to try to find a t28 intake, or possibly a shorter filter if u dont want to get the adapter

Hmm yeah I'll look into an s15 pipe, maybe I can get one of those intake pipes. It's hard to find a single adapter, usually have to buy the set. I'll do it if it has a recirc tube like my stock s13 one.

Thanks for that I'm going to have to check it out. I bet they are a little different.

Normally people don't put coolant overflow reservoir on the driver side. Put it back at stock or away from driver side location so you have more room there.

Hey guys sorry was away doing work. Here is the current status of the project. See where I had to relocate the reservoir. With it like this everything seems to run fine however when I try to snap boost there's a delay and it also seems to hesitate a bit while boosting (kind of like a stutter). I have not attempted to go above 1psi until I figure out what the problem is. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the turbo because there are no strange noises emanating from it. Also it continues to spool after I shut the car off for like a minute. Could the hesitation be caused from a boost/vacuum leak? On the rev down I hear kind of like a whistling which I know is vacuum but I cant seem to find it. I tightened everything down really well so I'm not too sure where it is coming from =o. Any suggestions?

I don't think there's a spot for it on the other side. It was on the driver side when I got the car too. There's 2 bolt holes on the wall for the overflow as well which leads me to believe that's the place for the overflow.

^ s14's are on the driver side I believe. all my buddies are. s13's are on the other side maybe that's where he's confused.
As for the hesitation what I always do when I change something on the turbo is run it
directly off the wastegate actuator and run the factory 7 psi. That way you don't have to worry about overboosting and can tell if something is truly going on. Your boost controller could just be causing it to creep a tad past that small amount of boost. Not sure what bc you have but I know on my truboost if I don't set the spring pressure right it acts super funky.
(sorry for advertising another forum just its the first I saw that was relevant)
Only suggestion for finding the boost/vac leak make a boost leak tester. super easy. try to only pressurize it to the boost level you intend on running

Heck yeah I do appreciate that bmxer. I do need to check for boost leaks lol. Btw I'm only running a HKS adjustable actuator with no boost controller. This is my first major upgrade so everything is basically stock.
