View Full Version : Dying SR20DET at idle

My car, when at idle, requires me to rev it up a little bit because the rpms will fall really quickly and the car will stall. Could this be because of a non-recirculated blow off valve and my 740cc injectors?? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance, Ryan

check for vacume leaks, I remember u recently got the car running no? make sure your settings on ur standalone ecu are working, 740 injectors will mess up if u don't have a tuned ecu or a standalone. Also check the maf, make sure its not bad. if u take the maf off the car, or switch it and it idles better, its the maf.

yeah more info on your setup would help.

"got it running" would be the bright side of what happened - it ran, but ran really poorly - e.g.: overheating, oil light, etc.

My setup is as follows: s14 blacktop vvt, Jim Wolfe ECU, z32 MAFS, tomei 740cc injectors, hks 264 cams, greddy valve springs, tomei RAS, greddy metal head gasket, blitz dual drive BOV, blitz LM intercooler, garrett gt2871r turbo, greddy turbo extension, koyo radiator, new oem water pump, apex'i power intake, apex'i gt spec exhaust, topspeed straight pipe and downpipe.

I am in the process of getting the oil gauge installed so i can check the pressure problem.

Maybe the idle is too low? is that ecu controlled or manually controlled? Note: this idle problem is not always a problem - usually only after warmup.

Thanks, Ryan

those are REALLY big injectors for your setup.

what is your idle set at? how many RPM?

Uh I hear that the blitz DD bov is notorious for being faulty and leaking. Not saying that it's the cause but watch out.

i had the same problem recently with my redtop. originally i thought that the iacv might need to be cleaned, but when i double checked where my idle was set, i found that it was too low. i readjusted my idle and now the rpms don't drop.

true dat.
I don't know anyone that likes those, nor anyone that has kept it after installing it and getting frustrated.

What fuel management are u using?
My $ is on the BOV, if you don't have a computer, u shouldn't be running atmospheric... try recircing and see if that helps you.

did jim wolfe program it for the 720s? or is the program for 550s and your using the SAFC to run the 720s?

Jim wolfe programmed for 740s - they said they program them all the time and the idle is fine. As far as the BOV is concerned - i like it...we'll see how much i like it when i can compare my set boost on my greddy profec b spec II and my boost gauge reading when i install the gauge this week.

Yoshi - im not using an fuel managment

How do i adjust my idle?

thanks,
Ryan

Podola,

I would really reconsider that BOV, its one leaky bastard , would always stall out under heavy braking and idle just a tad off.

BTW, you have S14 SR, so here's a pic of where to adjsut the idle

cant miss it

LOL great pic Kid Z too funny. Ryan... all seems to point to your BOV. especially since its not aconstant thing. if your idle was ofdf it would be constant not bouncy like yousay

yah my bet is the bov. One of my guys out here runs it and it bogs even with a safc hooked up to it. He re-circulated it and it went away.
