has anyone used any of those radiator caps with the levers on your swirl pot? kinda pissed me off when i found that my cap wouldn't retract far enough to let coolant into the overflow. now i can't open the swirl pot when the coolant is hot since hot coolant sprays all over. maybe the cap is old? i just want know if anyone with a swirl pot has used the caps with the levers successfully. trying to be able to open the pot with the car running and hot

First off, explain why you would want to open the swirl pot when the coolant is hot.

I have this style cap on my truck, but the truck isn't running a swirl pot.

well it wouldnt help if you didnt have the swirl pot because i think the problem is in the swirl pot top not being designed right in order to utilize these caps. i would want to release the coolant pressure so i can open it while it's hot so i can watch it and let the air out and put the cap back on and it would be good.

So you're trying to say a high dollar swirl pot is DESIGNED wrong for your 12$ motorad radiator cap. Put a stock cap on and try.

i dont want a stock cap. i want a cap that i can release the pressure with.

but yeah, all these high dollar swirl pots arent designed correctly for my cool $12 radiator cap. damn shame huh..

im not saying theyre designed wrong or bad, im saying the top of the swirl pot possibly doesnt allow for these caps but still wondering if anyone has one on their swirl pot. im cool off the zilvia trolls thanks. i want actual relevant feedback.

The whole point of the swirl pot is that it's self-bleeding. You don't need to open anything to bleed it. Fill it with the engine cold, run the engine with the heater on full, then top it off. Check it again next day when the engine is cold and top off as necessary.

thanks, that's probably gonna be the best answer i'll get.

I'm still curious to know how you know that your current rad cap isnt letting coolant out. What cap are you using to begin with, better yet, what's the pressure rating for it? If you're using a high pressure cap, ofcourse it's gonna build alot more pressure...that's the point.

it was a 13 lb cap, about a standard rating. the problem is that when you pull the lever up, it doesnt pull the plunger up far enough to get past the overflow hole. when you screw the cap on, you have to compress the spring and push the cap down which is i think why the lever doesnt go far enough up because you already have to compress it to get the cap on. i know that it's not letting coolant out because i have the top of the tank running to an overflow and if the car is hot and i pull the lever up it should "release all the coolant pressure and push coolant into my overflow"
but that doesnt happen

Ah, so you're running that cap currently. What happened to the cap that came with the swirl pot you have? Personally with a swirl pot, I wouldnt run a higher pressure cap, stay with the regular .9-1 bar caps. Running 1.3 bar caps is just asking for trouble with a swirl pot and if you're still running some original heater lines in your engine.

I'm using the cap that came with it now. It was a 1.1 bar cap
