View Full Version : Craigslist is really getting ridiculous.

So I sold my S13 back in the summer and now that I'm searching for another i can't help but feel that trying to buy a 240 off craigslist (or at least here) is just useless.
I know people have always kinda asked high prices for 240's but asking like $4000 for a 1990 still with the ka-e that smokes and has a cracked windshield and bad brakes, is beyond crazy and I'm not a drifter (just love the cars) so I hate how people will strip a perfectly good car to say it's "drift ready" like it's a wonderful selling point. I rarely see anything running for under $2000.
Anyway wasn't making this as like a complaining thread just wanting to hear from other members about their opinions and what kinda things they see that they think are crazy.

You know why people ask high prices? Because they know they're gonna get low balled to hell. I try to sell a car for $2K, somebody's gonna low ball me down to $1k. If I ask for $4k for my car but its really worth $2K and I do sell it for $2k...WIN.

Actually i sold a lot of cars (240") on clist and Always get the asking price. It really matters on the car condition. If you looking for a unBused 240... Then it will not be cheap, unless its automatic. Gl

That's the most chickenshit excuse ever, considering the player is who makes the game what it is.
The real problem is people who claim to love 240s, who, instead of loving one 240, go through a slew of them - each time they change owners they're that much more likely to be parted out, or be gutted, or some other stupid bullshit.
It's people who think and act like small children, and have a hobby of destroying cars with no reason, goal, endgame, beyond a partout and crushing a good chassis.
Meanwhile, all these people causing the problem go around telling each other it's this mythical "drift tax", because it's easier to live a decade and a half ago and blame people for coming into your "scene", than live with what you turned that "scene" into. Like oh, as soon as people stop caring about this very popular car, all the cars we've crushed and treated like bags of dogshit are magically going to come back to life, and the prices will go down, and it will be back to a 1k one on every corner.

I buy and sell cars on CL from time to time. This is exactly what I do and others do to me. You Lowball like a Mofo then settle somewhere in the middle. Thats just how it is.
But know that YOU can lowball Just as hard as someone lowballs you. It works more than u think.

Part of the issue is because current generations grew up on stores and set prices and no one is willing to do the work required to get the price down. Shit no one even uses the make an offer on ebay they just bid or do buy it now, which works out for the seller of course.

Exactly. Basic Economics in High School Consumer math Teaches You the Basic principle that anything of Value is only worth what its Consumer will pay.

Well everyone who's in the "scene" will probably ask higher prices because of "drift" tax shit. People who aren't in the scene and dont know about drifting and or the car culture wont ask for that much. But it's hard to find a 240sx that's owned by an older person now a days who fits that description. Ha. But dont worry man you'll find one! Took me a while too. Good luck.

Yeah I understand the pricing high and selling for what you really want (thats what I usually do but within reason) but I guess I just never have the guts to lowball people to bad.
Got my 90 hatch for $500 running with an auto and knocking engine now I rarely see people selling shells that clean for the price.
Also acquired a fairly clean stock auto s14 today, so I'm finally back in the seat of a real car. Now just to start piecing together a 5 speed swap.... so if anyone's got some pieces hit me up!

don't be afraid to low ball. Go with cash in hand. Can't act interested at all, don't talk about drifting or anything even remotely to do with these cars. Just talk like you are needing a shitbox to save gas with. Act like you don't even know what it is. If they say no, you just tell them to call you when they are tired of sitting on it. But you have to do things in a nonchalant respectful kind of way. I always like to prep myself by thinking its your chance to mind f$%& someone. Manipulation is always fun, just like talking to hoes at the bar. If they sell it to someone else, oh well, that guy got screwed. If no one buys the pile, they will have your number and call you just to move it. Should of got this approach going weeks ago as people like to get extra money for holidays etc.

That car has been for sale for a while, keeps getting posted in a local FB page. I hope that is not your car that you are trying to sell.

im the third owner of my hatch and must've lucked out because i paid 1500 for my 240. its a factory 5spd too:2f2f:! i even have the original window sticker from the dealer and all the books (SCORE) honestly not all the good cars are on craigs, its just a place to start. what pisses me off is when a crappy car has a high ass price and the person selling the car blames its issues on non existing parts. "yeah the unicorn blower bleed valve is worn out, thats why it wont start." obviously im exaggerating a bit here but ive heard some seriously stupid things come from people as an excuse:facepalm:

Ahh OK its an example, the lack of wording made it seem like a FS outside the marketplace. Anyways it looks clean and surprised no one has taken you up on it since you have had it up. IDK maybe its my medium like of the Zenki that makes me view it with a little more understanding.

in australia we have something called "gumtree" which is pretty much the equivalent of craigslist and its the same shit, you need to advertise you car/item/etc for higher than you expect to account for the endless amount of dickhead lowballers

I had a kouki up for 5000 People lowballed me asking if I would take 2k. I honestly was looking to just get around 4k. People who want a 240sx are cheap as fuck and are the same honda owners now that want everything dirt cheap and halfassed.
Especially true with the s13 crowd even more cheaper then a typical s14 buyer yet the price difference is only 1-2k max. I was selling a s13 a few yrs back, i got 3 people that offered me tattoo work from it, smh.

Our "scene" is full of idiots who somehow get a hold of a clean s13 but because its missing a speed panel they consider it a missile. They do not understand just because your car does not have $20k in it doesn't mean it is a "missile".

The guy I was buying my 240sx from wanted $2500 for a bone stock engine and automatic. But it was clean as shit, in fact it was the cleanest car I've seen during my 5 months of looking for one. No cracked dash, interior was mint, exterior does need some work but it is 20 years old.
Anyways I negociated with him and got him down to $1700 where we agreed to make a deal. It really depends on how you negociate you don't want to low ball and say $1000 cash right here right now. What I did I said $1500, he said $2000, looked at the car said $1600 (lol), he said $1700 and its yours I said okay! Turned out pretty good.
