View Full Version : smoke from exhaust; repair shops in San Francisco?

Two things guys....while drivin home in the city, the car started billowing white smoke from the exhaust; despite running and starting fine (no noticeable lack of power from what i can tell), it seems to be burning unhealthy amounts of oil. Some friends suspect anything from piston ring destruction, fucked up cat, or simply running rich for one reason or another.
The smoke appears to be from the exhaust, not so much the engine bay.
All I have in the engine is a stock KA, 83k miles w/ '91 cams, k&n cone filter ...I don't quite see how the cams would have led to running rich, unless i jacked up the install
the second part:
Are there any nissan repair shops IN San Francisco? I know all about Auto RnD, Black Trax, other places in Milipitas or South San Francisco...but anywhere in the main part of SF?
There's no way my car will make it on the freeway to any of those places, and I can hardly afford to have it towed down there...

That sounds like a blown headgasket if its white smoke. Check for oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil.

You should change your oil and see if there's coolant in it. White smoke is water burning, not oil. Sounds like you just blew a headgasket.

look in the oil fill hole and see if there's any milky/creamy stuff in there.
oil + water = milky/creamy stuff

youknow what...would water in the engine bay result in the white smoke? because now that i think about it, a minor accident has left my hood slightly warped, and i just washed the car...so water may have gotten in right near the intake...gotten sucked in?

and...apparently we have a status change.
The smoke was BLUE not WHITE, therefore its not water, but rather oil burning...
guess i was too freaked to notice, but talking to my friends who witnessed the thing, they all agreed it was blue...fuck...
still a blown headgasket, or not?

...went to kragen, picked up some stuff called "Engine Restorer", fixes piston seals and such, heals compression over time...poured some of that in
and the smoke is no longer billowing out, though i do have to get to the root of this problem
edit: and car seems to have difficulty starting

check your dilithium crystal mixture, its located right by the flux capacitor adjacent to the muffler bearings and blinker fluid. try race tune? they are in daly city.

It could still be a bad piston ring or two. Go to an auto parts store and get a compression check.

shit that sucks, be sure you upgrade your ecu to a quantom substrate version, they have a built in warp core turbo
