who would seriously choose a supra over a 240. my co-worker is obsessed with the stock internal capabilities, but i personally would take a 240 over a big-assed supra anyday.

i wouldn't PAY for a supra over a 240 but if it were given i'd take it...
then sell it for mod money, buy an S13, and build a monster :)

i'd say it depends on what you're using the car for...on pimp status alone a supra would probably trounce a 240...but if you were hardcore about auto X or road racing I could see u taking the lighter chassis....

well... mmm... er... i'd take a yellow 360 spyder over my s14...
a better comparo would be mkiv vs fd3s. same price/power range but different style. And I don't doubt all of us would be driving something else if we had the money.

I would choose a supra over a 240. And I'd choose a skyline over a supra and a Ferrari over that but who cares. I would probably choose a lot of cars over a 240 if I had the money, and I'd have at least 5 cars haha. Anyway, I don't know why people seem to think that 240's are the most awesome cars ever. Don't get me wrong, it would take a lot to make me sell mine right now, but I mean my car is 15 years old and no longer produced...

they arent the best, but its a personal interest question. so people arent sayin that they are the best, just that they like them more than other cars
I'd take a Supra anytime over a 240sx for daily driving... I would then dedicate my 240sx to the track! :D

I chose my 1997 240 over a 350z.
didn't want to deal with monthly payments, higher insurance, and expensive ass mods... I think my s14 will outperform most 350z's out there, and spent way less. :x:

240s are nice little shits that have some options, are RWD, cheap fun, and that's pretty much it.
If money was not an issue, the supra without a doubt. But then again, a TT RB powered 240 would only be around $10k-13k (estimate on current value in my area) and the cheapest TT supras MKIV are around $26k around here.

reasons i wouldn't want my dream car over a 240?
my dream car has 600-1700 a month INSURANCE payments. if some dolt offered me a C5 for my car i'd take it then the next day trade it in for a new F150 and S13 :)
p.s. i'd take a C5 or C6 over a supra TT ANY day of the week.

what kind of car u drive determines your social status. If u drive a fully modded civic which cost $50K to build, it's still a civic. Nobody would think you are rich. If u are driving a 2 year old viper that cost the same money stock, people will have much more respect for you.
Same with supras and 240s. Supras are higher level vehicles. For performance reasons, its a preference choice, for daily driving i'd take a supra over a 240 any day of the week.

You're assuming that everyone cares about social status. They don't. The ex-CFO of the company I work for, a guy who had a salary in the high 6 figures and could've bought just about any car, drove a beat-up '89 Honda Accord.
Any car I buy, I buy for myself, not to impress other people. You'll find that there are lots of people who feel the same way. I don't want to be associated with anyone who likes and respects me more if I'm driving a Viper instead of a Civic. Sounds like a pretty damn shallow person to me.

I believe he was refering to society in general....not just the people your around and interact with....but rather the general public....get what I mean?

I don't know what the big deal is about Supra's. I really don't care for them at all. I do like how the console looks, but thats about it. I mean I respect the engine and everything but If I even had money to blow, I wouldn't buy one.

just like 95KoukiS14 said, i was talking about people in general.
So the ceo is driving the same car that a janitor at the same workplace does? Imagine you are another business. Would you ever make a deal with a business (assume u never met them before) whose ceo is driving an 89 accord? Seriously. Would you invest any money in them? Or say you are invited to banquet where you are supposed to represent your company. Bunch of people standing near the entrance. And you pull up in a what... 89 accord?
think any of those old people driving c5s really care for the performance? Most of htem dont. It's just that their class is forcing them to either buy a vette or a 7-series.
and i'm all for driving what i want to drive. That's why i have a car that i take out on the street every day and drive to work and a project car that i race and do what not in.

Don't know what the story was with that CFO. I'd assume that he didn't pull up in his old Accord in cases where impressing outside business people was important. I'm sure he had access to a company-owned BMW, if need be, since all of our execs do. On a daily basis, impressing the world at large wasn't high on his priorities list. He didn't feel the need to drive around in an expensive car in order to display his wealth and success.
I have nothing against anyone who wants to own a Supra, or a Mercedes, or a Lamborghini, or whatever. Whereever you are on the food chain, buy what you want. I just find it annoying that that many, many people make their car-purchase decisions based solely on how impressed "the general public" is going to be. A perfect example would be those C5 owners you mentioned. Buy the car because you like the car, not because you want people to be envious of you. Silly.
Having said all that, I'd still buy a Ferrari in a millisecond if I could afford one. :D
