for the life of me i can not find my answer. what is the black/green wire coming off of the ignition barrel? what is its purpose? what does it do? is it a ground? everything i find on ignitions and wiring, no one talks about this wire and ive gone over diagrams with people and cant decipher what it is, and its driving me crazy

thanks

That's actually a good question!!..You've got me stumped too!!!

Looking at the wiring, you have 6 wires coming off the barrel: 1). Black/Yellow, 2). Black/White, 3). Blue, 4). Red, 5). White/Red & 6). Black/Green. Looking at the Electrical Section, (EL) in the FSM, it only shows five wires in the electrical wiring schematics, (wires #1 thru #5) - no mention of #6). Black/Green.

If you look at pages EL-24 & EL-25 in the '95 FSM, it mentions that there are some variation in the wiring with regards to M/T, (with anti-theft & without), along with the Auto, (with anti-theft & without).

Seeing that my S14 is an auto with anti-theft, next time I have to service the dash, I'll drop the steering column cover & experiment with the Black/Green wire & see what the hell it does. It's possible it could be a ground wire, but I'm not sure.

As for you SG240, what are you running?? Manual Transmission with or without anti-theft or Auto with or without anti-theft. If you find out the answer before someone else responds, please advise.

Thanks!!

im M/T and as far as i know i dont have anti-theft, but i went to talk to a buddy who can actually read wiring diagrams, and there actually is 6 wires coming off the ignition switch in the FSM, 5 come off the bottom in the diagram and the 6th is coming out of the top which is the 12v constant (white/red). however in the diagram i think the colors for the wires that it says are the ones in the harness, not the 4" wires coming off of the barrel. which means that black/green one goes to a black/white one in the harness which we determined to have something to do with the clutch interlock relay or maybe anti theft. im going to try and jump the relay for the clutch interlock and see if that fixes my issue (im doing a switch board for a pushbutton start and thought i could just move these wires to their respective positions with other switches but ran into some snags and im not sure where to put this wire) but ill update with my findings once i try a couple things

When I get home I'll dig into this a bit. I just rerouted all my chassis harness and depinned those wires.

From what I see, there are 6 wires on your ignition switch.

Pin 1 is a White wire, that's your power feed to the switch.
Pin 2 is a White/Blue wire, that's ACC power.
Pin 3 is a Black/Red wire, that's On-Start power.
Pin 4 is a White wire, that's On only power.
Pin 5 is a Black/Yellow wire, which is the Start/Theft power feed.
Pin 6 is a Black/White wire, which is a power feed to a 7.5A fuse.

Do you have a picture of said wire? Is it a heavy gauge wire or a rather light gauge? This could shed some light on the subject. Are you sure it's a Black/Green wire and not a Green/Black wire? The first letter or color code is the wire color, second is the stripe color. If there is no stripe it is a single letter.

No pic, and it is a black wire with a green stripe, 14ga. Or so ......but according to what your pins are it's pin 6 I'm trying to figure out it's purpose. That's the last wire I don't have wired in for my push button and I'm not sure where i need to put it

Pin 6 goes to the 7.5A fuse(#25) at the main fuse block(M6) then it turns into an Orange wire and runs to Start/Theft/DTRL/S/SIG(which I'm going to assume is the stop signal power feed). All this is on page EL-14.

On page EL-26 it shows the power circuit to start the car and where exactly the wires run to. It should go to the Theft warning relay, from that to the Clutch interlock relay and from there to the Clutch interlock switch which ultimately returns to ground.

Got it figured out, your pinout confirmed what I thought I was lookin at. Helped me out a lot I appreciate it!
