How do you run your gears?(I have a S14, 1995 BlackTop "11.3PSI")

1st **** RPM?
2nd **** RPM?
3rd **** RPM
4th Till redline RPM etc..

And and please put the car you drive + motor
or how should i drive her?, i never been at the track with her
power shift or no?

1st gear 2500RPM - SWITCH GEAR

2nd gear 3000RPM - SWITCH GEAR

3rd gear till redline - SWITCH GEAR

4th gear till redline

well when I did it I let automatic take over and sipped a powerade. but my friend said he does 5 grand all the way but hes dumb so i dont know if hes bein smart or what.

um, you shift at 2500rpm in first? maybe you were just using it as an example. Last time I shifted @ 7000 or so. My best time was a 14.2 which I think sucks since I was running 13-14 psi... (i'm open diff and crappy tires too) although I went up against a s14 running 10.5 psi on a redtop and he pulled like a 15.1 :coolugh:
Next time I'm gonna leave it at 7 psi and just practice my launch/consitancy. Trying to get a better 60 ft time....

depends upon your individual car, If you have more top end power, and it goes till redline, then let it go all the way till redline. My car has

fmic, hks intake, full 3inch exhaust from dp, no cat, with a redtop and runs a 13.6 on my first time ever to the drag strip, first launch. I didn't even warm my tires so im proud of myself...what made me confused is my trap speed was only 97 mph....hmmm anyhow i shifted at 7500 on every gear.

how much boost were you running? do you have an LSD? my 14.2 run was at 95 mph... :confused:

k heres what i got
no cat
1995 BlackTop in a 1995 240SX None-SE
3" exhuast pipes / downpipes hks-hi flow exhaust
Blitz boost controller most boost i've seen was 10.3 or .6psi i forgot(set at 14)
FMIC Hybrid(a little dented)(same thing with the pipes(dented))<-i know im getting lag from this
intake(the stock 1 its a cone)

so your saying
1st gear> go all the way to redline?
2nd gear> same thing
etc.?
while riding in 1st gear i shift to 2nd its already at 5k rpm pretty short gears

i asked these queistions cause woudn't i have more power in 2nd gear then 1st?

well anyway i could ride all my gears on the 1/4? cept 5th till redline?

The Car: 1995 240SX SE
Motor: S13 Blacktop with basic bolt-ons stock turbo

The best I've run in my car is [email protected] with 12.5psi. It was about 70 degrees that day. The car at the time had stock suspension, open diff, and cooper cobra tires (CRAP!!) on stock SE rims and still performed 1.9s 60ft times. Now I have Eibach Prokit with AGX all the way around and changed tires to Falken Azenis Sports (nice and sticky, but not for dragging) with VLSD. I now have trouble pulling a 2.0s 60ft time. I still get 13.3-13.6 consistently with the new suspension/tires and 85+ degree weather.

My shift points are:
1st 7700
2nd 7500
3rd 7100
4th go til I cross the line

shift at redline jesus christ! :rl:

launch at 5k with some stickies and just book it .

thats what i do with my 400hp redtop :angel:

6500 is good for 1st-2nd

then 7k in third

and 4th till redline.


i shift 1st-2nd at 7600


3rd-4th 8k

125 mph traps

to4r/t3

I think its really funny when people start talking about Drag techniques, especially with an SR. First of all, you want to use all of your available power, which basically runs til redline (So shift there). With the SR there is no reason to let off before then. The powerband only gets stronger as RPMs increase.... :duh:

PS...DRAG SUCKS!!! But i guess some people should stick to a straight line...

No power shifts, just shift fast normally (let off gas, push clutch, change gear, release clutch, gas again)

drive the car and get a feel for when the power stops pulling, feel the powerban. after you learn it, it will come natural... i know this may sound dumb, and not effective as setting up a shift light ect... but after a while its a 2nd nature.

in my car i have big big turbo so shift right at 8k everytime

power band is from 4500-7950.

when i get my new head with cams and aftermarket goodies on ill be shifting at 8500.

my friend shifted at 7500 every gear with vlsd and got 14.1 at 97 (red top sr with bolt ons), he ended the1/4 in 4th gear(he has really short gears) if that matters

well i turned out a 11.89 with very long gears/ 3.90 j30t

its really gay compared to my old gears


but fck does it wind out, 119-125mph traps now
