does the tweed stuff leave any kind of residue or holes? I'm not so sure I want to do it yet. blue and black....hmmm

05-27-2004, 10:44 PM
its gonna be blue under on a blue interior. it isnt something special, just the plactic from the rest of the door. if the rest of the door is blue, that part will be blue when you pull the fabric off.

it doesn't really leave any residue (maybe a little here and there) but there are some holes. you can kinda see them in the pic, they are in the corners in the front and in the back. they aren't that noticable though.

for the window control panels, put your hand in the handles and try to rotate it up and toward you. for the door opening handle trim, just pull. it's scary the first time but just pull

where's the best place to start? so you just take a flathead and go at it?

Ricer240sx
05-28-2004, 02:19 AM
i used a heat gun to loosen up the adhisibe

just take a small flat head screw driver and pick at an edge, as soon as u get some thing to grab, take the heat gun(hair drier should work) and heat up the carpeting shit so u dont go streight on the vynal and melt it (i learned the hard way, but it was on a extra set of door cards so its all good :) ) and jsut keep mmovin it back and forth till it all comes off, it leaves little to no residue left over that way :D

Andrew Bohan
05-28-2004, 12:30 PM
S14 is not so easy. my buddy ripped his shit off and it left this layer of sticky foam. been about a month now and the foam is easier to peel off but it still sucks. i think once the foam is off it's okay though. we'll see

just did mine too. took all of 5 minutes and it looks a hell of a lot better. no need for a heat gun/hair dryer/any of that. the hardest part was getting it off around the 'oh shit' handle on my passenger door because i didn't take it off, but some scissors solved that problem.
thanks for inspiring me to get off my lazy ass and do something driftaholic

kingsol
05-28-2004, 02:40 PM
yeah, i just did mine too. taking it off the passenger door near the hadle just sucked. the drivers side and everything else though was really easy. i do recommend using a hairdryer though because it made things come off a lot easier.

but now i'm trying to do the glovebox and it doesn't want to come off. i can't seem to start it off. the outsides just don't pop out like the door panels do, so for those of you who have done it already... did the outsides of the tweed pop out as easily as the door panels or did you guys have to do another method?

sykikchimp
05-28-2004, 02:56 PM
I'm pretty sure the glove box has nasty looking foam under the tweed. So if you take the tweed off, make sure you have something to re-cover with.

even if u get the stuff off the glove box its not pretty.. even if u sand it down its not pretty... just go to ur local arts and crafts store like i did and buy a few feet of black vinyl. and cover it... get some adhesive or super glue and u should be able to figure out how to cover it..

Actually I really DID want to do it. :) I was just poking fun at the ppl who complain about bandwagon stuff.

there is a black film on the back of the fabric, if you didn't get that off, you didn't go far enough. it should all come off in a big sheet. it's pretty easy.

the suede is probably the same but i wouldn't pull that off if i were you. if they are in good shape, someone would probably be willing to buy/trade with you (like me).

I just did it -- The driver's door had nasty brown stains and lots of cigarette burns from the previous owner(s). Wow! It's NEW under there.

I wish Nissan had covered the entire car (interior and exterior) with this fake suede material; it'd be fun to just peel away 11+ years of wear and abuse.

One question though: is this considered mAdTyTeJDM or Drift style?

the plastic panels on the doors are made with a vacuum press at the factory which results in those tiny holes. if it really bothers you, stop by and we can glass those over or better yet glass over the entire door panels and do your glove box while you're at it. btw is your vinyl dash fine or has it started to crack?

FastBack 240

Didnt seem to see a crack in the dash of MJ's s13 the last I checked. His car seems to be in pretty good condition considering it was in upstate NY. Interior is pristine. Exterior just some surface rust that you can bondo up when he goes to repaint. Now we just gotta wait for his projects to unfold and get that sob on the road.

Just finished my doors and glove box. I am REALLY impressed with how easy that was. It is extremely hot where I am at so the door fabric peeled off like butter. I sanded down the glove box and painted it. I am not happy with the way the GB came out, so I am going to cover it with a graphite grey fabric. I will do the doors as well.

this thread is long gone and petrified man! if anyone wants some blue leather to re-skin their panels and glovebox i got a big giant roll of it for 10$... btw when removing this from your s13 do a slow consistant pull. if you pull jerky movements you will leave little white lines from where it starts and stops that are a pain to get off. kinda like when you pull tape off a roll and you just give it little tugs. goo gone works well and im gonna fill in my little holes with that stuff you get at walmart "as seen on tv" with that stupid british guy that fixs tears and holes in your leather!!!! amazing!!! lol. recap that you gotta remember it comes off in 2 layers the rug and the black stuff too and peel it slow in one piece, you dont wanna have to pick at that shit after. best mod ever besides my 03 celica leather seats but atleast they match now! only thing i gotta do is take on that damn glovebox.....
