Hi All,

After a year of spending cash like water to get my car where it is now, I lost a competition due to the lack of power.

was too focused on suspension and the balance,, and forgot that I will need more power to stay in the league with those 700 hp monsters.

my non VVT-i 1JZ-GTE on S13 chassis is pretty much stock. just added 2JZ injectors and apexi NEO to it.

now my goal is to get this car to something around 500 hp. with minimum lag. fastest spool that is.
however when i started to research which turbo to buy.. strange variables came to the picture.

now you got a little info about my back ground about me.. please share your experience and knowledge to enlighten me.

what would be the best setup to go for?

Single turbo:
- external or external waste gate?
-any big advantage going dual ball bearing? like in GTX3067R
-only oil cooled? or water and oil cooled?
- compressor size turbine size?
- any recommendation on the boost?
- short headers vs long headers.
-T3 manifold or T4?
- electronic vs manual boost controller?

any extra mods?
- do I need cams? what is your recommendation. 265? 272?
- will valves and spring retainers will help?
- is stand alone ECU is must?
- anything else? you want to add? (be generous)

please strop saying use the search button.. I am a desperate man.
any help is hugely appreciated.

Single turbo:
- internal or external waste gate? External - much more reliable boost control especially if you go with a twin scroll with dual wastegates (rock solid boost and faster spool)
-any big advantage going dual ball bearing? Ball bearings spool quicker - do it if you can afford it although I think there is no rebuilding those things should they need it
-only oil cooled? or water and oil cooled? depends on the turbo/mfg and I think ball bearing turbos must be water cooled where such journal bearings do not (my Precision 6266 journal bearing is oil only)
- compressor size turbine size? you have 1jz so you should be able to spool a pretty large turbo pretty easily
- any recommendation on the boost? A LOT
- short headers vs long headers. Log manifold for spool
-T3 manifold or T4? T4
- electronic vs manual boost controller? Electronic all day

Thats all i got - goodluck

I'm sure you are aware (since you have a 1J) of driftmotion.com. If I were you, I'd call Aaron at driftmotion. Tell him about what you have and what your goals are, ad he should be able to either give some detailed advice, or maybe even piece something together for you.

I second the driftmotion idea. There are quite a number of people around where I live that run there turbo kits especially this one guy that has a na-t 2j that has been running there turbo kit for 2 years now pumping out 600+ whp running a map 3 ecu for engine management.

Thank you soo much for taking the time and replying,

redline racer510, Chronicle: Actually that was my first option, and that what I was going for initially, heard many positive feedback about it, however Aron the guy who is running Driftmotion never replies my e-mails or comment or PMs on forums. I thought he stopped operating.

my only problem with his kit is.. his turbo are only oil cooled, not oil and water cooled,, it is a problem since I am living in one of the hottest places in the planet where temperature rises up to 50 degrees Celcius. if you guys know him let him talk to me, I need something specially built for this kind of environment:hyper:

I was just about to start up the same thread! I am in the same boat as you! I currently have a 1jz vvti with a single turbo (CT15b) and i'm looking to upgrade to something that will get me to around 500, and still spool just as quick down low.

it's a tough decision.

actually your decision sould be easy.. because you have a VVT-i motor.
if I had a VVT-i I would go with Tomie package that is a bolt on that comes with turbo cams and manifold.

but non-VVTi is the problem. only driftmotion has a bolt on kit. and i am not having luck with them. hence I am going the hard rout trying to build the kit my self.

then In that case, welcome abroad,

so far from what I have learned, I am inclined toward GTX series,, and the dual ball bearings are fast spooling Turbos.

but still need more opinion to confirm i am going right direction, I will hurt my wallet if I go wrong. and make BIG hole in it.:ddog:

Soarer Central: HELP - Which turbo GTX 3076 or GTX 3540 - both with 0.63 rear housings (http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/51875/354371.html)

SlideOrDie831 thank you for the link it was useful, however the guy is trying to setup a daily driven car, my car is a track car that is used only for drifting (not road legal)

I want a set up that is reliable, I have seen many competitors breaking their cars during the competition, which is a nightmare that I never want to have.

I lost my last armature competition because of lack of power, however I was happy that was one of the few cars could survive the beating.

just so you have a better picture, our competitions are not as simple as going into one few turns, it is almost equivalent of drifting 2 laps of a whole track no stop in a hot summer day.

I know i am asking for too much.. but I am sure it is not impossible

I tried PMing him but not answer from him.

Its not what turbo is better that I need to know,
My mind is set on GTX350R turbo,
it just about the set up that I am unsure about.

as I said I lost a competition because of lack of power. I am more interested in a realibel set up that can withstand the heat of Muscat and can take the abuse of drift with open heart, I dont mind changing engines every two years. but I want the turbo setup to live for ever if possible,

and yes. Lag is the biggest fear for me a Setup that can go full boost early on the RPM gauge. :hyper:

I was on the same boat man, I have a 1j s14. Although I don't drift just built it for fun . I went with a cheap reliable set and I love it . Twin scroll hx35, t4 divided manifold , 440's, supra tt fuel pump, avcr boost controller , afc2... Haven't gotten this thing on the dyno but I have full spool at 32-3500 depending on gear and has power all
The way thru the powerband. Next step
If my 2jzgte sc300 build let's me, I'll do a e85 set up.
