Got to work this morning and turned my car off (89 240sx sohc KA hatchback) and moments later a dullish whining noise started from I believe is the back passenger side of the car. Car was in neutral and I Didn't have the clutch engaged or anything. Car has had an oil leak I haven't gotten to fix yet but I monitor it closely. I couldn't tell if it was doing it while moving due to my radio but I'll find out later. It just started doing this. So any advice on what it may be? I'm assuming the fuel pump is back there but I figure someone will know. Thanks everyone I'm advance.

It having a whining noise AFTER you turned it off doesn't make any sense really bro. Is she all stock?

Yeah it was almost immediately after I shut it off which is why it confused me. And the motor was just completely rebuilt. Only has 2700 miles on it. But everything with the exception of coilovers and a few other Suspension components it's bone stock

Fuel pump, bad ecu or wiring.

Or tornado in gas tank.

Bad electrical

Spinners on your rims.

I have no clue.

It hasn't Done it again since. Weird... checked the tank and couldn't find any signs of a tornado. If it starts again or I figure out what it is I'll post it up.

No one has mentioned the stupid automatic antenna?

Fuel line leak might make noise, perhaps on the in-tank pump carrier part so there is no external leaking? Maybe it is draining the fuel back into the tank making noise?

I had a loose clamp in the engine bay that made sucking noises after the engine was just shut off, but that leaked badly when running. I think it was the return side.

Good guess on antenna but wrong side.

Ah yes - that is a good one! Mine makes a lot of hissing noise sometimes when unscrewing.
