I pulled my ARP studs out of my motor, and realized they are different from the spare motor I recently purchased with them installed.

Mine are thinner and about 2mm longer. The part numbers are the same on the nuts and they both thread in fine, did ARP make 2 versions? Mine are flared at the bottom to stop them from going in too far, and the others stay that constant thick diameter.

I bought min back around 2007ish timeframe if that means they have changed them.

Reason I am asking is because I would probably just use the thicker since they should be more durable, but I want to make sure they are correct being that I didn't purchase them myself.

Here are some pics

Also since I didn't just get these I don't have the arp lube so I am going to use oil, I remember hearing something about the torque specs being different in that case? Still about 80?

ARPs website shows them being flared like my originals.

GTI-R and DET studs are different from each other. Do you have part numbers?

I don't have part numbers since it was so long ago. Ok well 7401 is the number of the ones in the last picture, which were the ones I bought long ago, so I guess I will keep using those.

102-4701 is the correct SR20DET RWD part number.
204-4204 is what was used before ARP developed the SR specific part number, it is for a VW 1.8 and 2.0 motors, and the studs are slightly different length, and from what I have heard the tensile strength is not quite as strong as the 102-4701.

We always go with 102-4701 unless the customer specifies otherwise, as the 204 part number is slightly cheaper, but technically incorrect. All we stock is 102-4701's.

Most Shops sell and label VW studs as SR the cost is cheaper which means the consumer price is cheaper. We normally use the VW set in motors we build. It has never been a weak point in the motors. 500hp no problem. If you are worried which set the shop you are buying them from is selling you ask before buying. The should be honest with you and tell you the part number. The only reason to hide it is if they are selling VW but pricing them as ARP's SR part number.
