Ok I changed the tranny fluid in my car cause its got a 135k on it and I dont think its ever been done. So I change the fluid and I get a horrible smell of gear fluid in the car. So I put it back up and see its leaking from a few sensors on the side of the tranny. I ordered all the sensors except the speed sensor because its $$. Anyway I replaced all the sensors and I used some seflon tape on the threads to help avoid leaking. I refill the tranny with fluid and clean up the tranny as best I can of all the old fluid on it. So I go for a ride and sure enough, more gear oil smeel in the car while moving. So I get back under the car to hopefully see where its coming from. Nothing I cant find anything with new clean fluid on it. One thing thats weird is I went for about a 15 min drive. Gear fluid smell comes and goes, get back home and imiediatly drive it up on ramps and leave the car running. Nothing, I dont smell anything under the car or anywhere around the car, and I dont see anywhere that it could be leaking from.
So any ideas, my only idea is that its leaking from the front seal of the tranny inside the bell housing. Anyone else want to take a stab?

do you have an OBX shifter? if so, that could be leaking and causing all of your problems. don't ask how i know this...let's just say i have a B&M now.

Nope stock shifter. I thought it might be leaking from around the shifter also and I felt everything I could up there with a hot tranny and everything was dry.

just keep checking it and if you keep having to add more then you got a problem, and like you said if its not dripping out but the level keeps getting lower, then it could be in the bellhousing,

Ziptie the shifter boot.
Where did you fill from? The fill plug or the shifter? Gear oil smell is pervasive. If you had any in the car, even if you didn't wash your hands before checking the shifter. It's in there for a long time. Time to bust the freebreze out.

That's normal. I changed my tranny fluid twice in about two months and each time there was a slight smell for a little while. Just takes a open air to circulate it out.
