View Full Version : Crashed my 240SX

Tonight at around 5:45pm PST I crashed my 240SX into a Ford Explorer. I was turning left at a stop sign and the guy I crashed into was going straight. I think I got to the stop sign first. I waited there for 5-7seconds and sense no one was going, I went. 10ft before the turn was completed the guy pulled out and crashed into the right front side, BYE BYE S13 FRONTEND CONVERSION.
I dont have a license, im 16. No insurance. Car is not registered, me and my dad bought it 2 weeks ago.
So now I have to pay for the guys car who crashed into and my car. I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE HOW I WILL FIX MY CAR. What was ruined was from Japan. What was ruined on his car was his bumper, grill, and left fender (he claimed his door wasnt working) I work at Marshalls and make a VERY NICE $6.75 an hour.
I am thankful that the police didnt give me a ticket or take away my license til I were 18. But they said I was at fault which I do not get. I know I shouldnt have been driving but I just got the fucking car and I am still amped about it (not as much anymore). The dude fucking crashed into me, I did not crash in to him (YES I KNOW YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO YIELD TO THE PERSON GOING STRAIGHT IF YOU ARE TURNING, but no one was going so I went).
What I have to fix on my car is the right fender, right wheel, hood, right light, middle light, bumper, the bar of metal that goes right before the radiator. Luckily there was no engine or chasis damage. The battery and the shit by the battery was pushed back though. My gauges wont light up either, i think there was a short somewhere.
What I think I am going to do is a buy a fiberglass hood and a bodykit front bumper. I can get S13 lights off of eBay for $225. Do not have a clue what I am going to do w/the fender...Sense it isnt a regular 240SX fender... I dont want to buy a full S13 conversion again just to get the right fender.
I am done rambling...

why'd u say ur lucky they're not gonna take away ur license till' ur 18? didn't u say u didn't have a license? i can't believe u actually did drive like that w/ no insurance, license, or nething. no offense, but from the background info n all, it seems like it is ur fault for what happened, i'd have to hear the other person's side of the story. i can c u making a mistake like that, but hope it all turns out alright n all, at least u'll still be able to get ur license.

Good luck getting the story out of the guy. He said probably 3 sentences during the 45 minute ordeal. Does smoke come out of airbags? Because his airbags went off and there was a bunch of smoke in his car. Then after we pulled to the side to the road. He like wondered off. I wonder if he was smoking weed or somthing. I asked him if he was alright and he said yes. I was going about 15 (first gear) he was going around 5 probably...
Usually if you drive without a liscense in CA and you are under 18 and get caught the police will take it away until you are 18. But they didnt w/me.

Ohhhh I did. Never drive with out insurance, listen to your pap, and dont open umbrellas indoors. Today at work I opened a umbrella and my coworker said dont do that man it'll give you bad luck.

yup kali cops are strict...my friend drove with a suspended license and no insurance and they pulled him over and towed his car and was in debt for $800...and all he did was passed a turning car...you got OFF REALLY LUCKY...accidents happen and it just makes you a better driver...well at least for some of us...least he didn't hit you then take off...like what happened to me...
hey well i hit a car today at work when i was pulling it out of the stall. good thing our nissan dealer has a body shop still sucks to see a silvia front end go. sorry man. hope you fix it back to its original condition

That sucks about the car, but I gotta scold you on driving without insurance or liscense too. You got off VERY lucky, and if you are at fault, I hope you've worked out to get that Explorer repaired as well. Oh well, at least you learned your lesson early, and nobody got hurt.

That could have been a very expensive lesson if the explorer wanted to be a prick and go for an injury claim.
You say you were unlucky, I think the fact that you still have a car and just a repair bill to deal with make you one #### of a lucky guy.

There should be a law that if a car and an suv are in a collision the suv is automatically at fault!
haha duff man...i'm down to vote for that..haha...i hate SUV'z....i want me a BIG RIG and run them all down..yeah now who's BIGGER!!!

I think the reason why you've still got your license is because technically, he should be at fault. If you entered the intersection first after waiting to see if he'd go or not, and he just decided to ram into you, than it's his fault for not looking ahead.
I feel really bad that your Silvia conversion got damaged, believe me. Maybe try getting a job that pays more, and perhaps even a driver's license and some insurance? Sorry, I don't mean to be a smart-ass. I know it's hard to get a job, especially now--our economy is damb near shot. But try your best.

ugh.. that sucks dude.. i'm only 16 too.. i just got the car in my sig an avatar 2 days ago, i don't even have it yet, and i'd be pissed if it got hit.. i'm getting a whole S13 clip, you know, the engine, rhd conversion, dash, etc, and i'd kick that dudes ass in court, but since you didn't have a liscence not much to do.. same thing almost happened to me dude, it sucks, but just live it out and it gets better

i remember when i was 16, n i got lucky 2 times, i won't tell the stories or nething cuz they're embarassing or stupid, but i know how u must feel. that guy must've been an idiot though cuz after all that time of u starting the turn, he should've noticed u were coming that whole time.
*dope slap!*
why are u driving?
u shouldnt be..... what if u killed someone? u dont even have insurance to pay the family what they deserve.....
what if u hurt somebody?
u dont even have insurance to pay for the medical bills. and they have to take your ass to court and waste their time sueing u.......

ok, well as an older member on the board, i just have to say that i think you should have to be 21 to drive. i would've kicked your ass if that was me in the explorer. your fault or not, you have no license or insurance. sorry to hear that your car in damaged, but you're ok and hopefully the guy won't sue you. you got off pretty light....

Dude I feel for you because you screwed up your silvia frontend but its hard for me to have that much sympathy for your situation since my 240 was hit by an uninsured driver who ran into the front of my car when I was stopped... Ruined my bumper and hood and caused over $1,000 damage.. her mother offered to pay us 50 dollars a month, so we had to sue her for the damages which took around a year to get through all the red tape and actually get her to pay us... It's a really really really bad idea to drive w/o insurance, I hope you learn a lesson but aside from that I also hope you have good luck fixing your car and finding a way to pay the other guy for his damages...
On a side note, I might try and get a lawyer and contest the fact that you were at fault, because it seems as though he is either completely at fault, or at least equally at fault in the accident.... You should see what your options are, even though the fact you didn't have a license or insurance might hurt you in court, there might be enough evidence to overturn your fault.. Were there any witnesses?

11-13-2001, 09:33 PM
Well the guy took his SUV to ford today and they estimated $500 worth of damage. He also claims his neck is hurting so on that note my dad called our insurance and filed a claim to cover our asses.
I'd lose in court because I was driving w/out insurance nor a drivers licence. If my dad was with me it would be a whole different ball game.
I believe he is at fault because he drove into me. I did all the traffic rules correctly while driving. But I guess driving with out a licence and insurance over rules that.
We'll see what happens and i'll post about it...
On a side note: Does anyone know where to get a slotted (where wind could pass through to the engine) fiberglass hood? I have seen many S13's with them but I dont know where to buy one.
alchemist
11-13-2001, 10:48 PM
in this situation.....on comming traffic will always win the case unless there is blantant evidence of speeding. You have to be able to prove that you were at the intersection first. Thats not going to happen. How do I know my friend got hit by oncomming traffic that should have been stopped at the light, (he had the green turngin arrow) since there was no conclusive way to prove that the oncomming traffic should have been stopped (no way to tell that his light was green or red) my buddy lost because he was making a left hand turn. You are getting off really easy on this. Take it as a learning experience and stop trying to pass blame on someone else. If it gets into a battle of he said she said, you are going to loose (because you shouldnt have been there in the first place). I'm glad you arent seriously hurt, and hope you get this taken care of. Dont try and screw the explorer out of his repair bill. (Yes airbags make "smoke" when they go off, its usually they powder that makes the bag not stick to itself in storage)

He wanted us to comment on it, and I think that's what we're doing. If it gets out of hand, then yeah, let's lock it, but I don't see a purpose now. I'm sorry.

in japan, they said if u wanted to ship a car to the states that it had to made to LHD, there r obviously exceptions though since those gt-r's r still RHD.
vancouvers14
11-14-2001, 03:13 PM
all RHD cars in north america are 100% legal. just look at mail trucks, old english cars, etc. all registered legally
S13Grl
11-14-2001, 03:15 PM
I understand about mail trucks, but besides those, I've really never seen a RHD here in Chicago. I don't remember who told me that they were illegal in one of the states. But I'm 100% sure I was told this. Then again, I also may be wrong.
BlankFlip

i'm sure there r exceptions. like in okinawa, if certain LHD cars were made before a certain year, then u could bring it over.

11-14-2001, 03:37 PM
yeah, that's pretty cool. i'm sure there was some extra cash they had to give up to bring it over here. i tried searching for some info on this topic but found nothing. i just know it would've costed me like 10k or so to make mine capable of being to the states before, it's just a hassle to get it all done.
vancouvers14
11-14-2001, 04:25 PM
rhd isn't the problem. the problem is crash testing, emissions, and the japanese 11-digit vin number. and it would likely cost you upwards of 25k to import and register a car legally. going the other way is so much easier.
and there's a ton of rhd in vancouver. old MG's especially.
BlankFlip
11-14-2001, 05:06 PM
yeah, i remember safety standards being the biggest issue, or crash testing. guess they're not made as "safe" as the US wants them to be.

what about the fact that its rhd? also, your car has the vin etched on about 40 different parts, so you'll have to change them all. i've only found maybe a half dozen.
