Need Gauges

I was looking around for gauges recently and i cant find any that arent freakin indiglo green and blue. I was looking for some with a white face or whatever that glowed red at night for my 89 240sx. Thats all i want..white gauges that glow red numbers at night. If anyone can find me a site, I would appreciate it because it's giving me a huge headache...I am getting some wide angle red led bulbs in the mail sometime soon too....we'll see how that works out, but id much rather have the gauge faces made

My 52mm HKS boost guage has a silver face with red numbers. When I bought it, they also had white and black face with red numbers.... But I think they stopped making that line cuz I can't find 'em on HKS's website anymore which really sucks cuz that means I won't be able to find mathcing gauges....

Hmm, I have VDO gauges that I got really cheap (like <$40 a piece) that have white faces. I'm sure you could put red bulbs in them.

You could also do that with Autometer white faced gauges! :)

i use autometer ultra light gauges (silver face) they came with the bulb boots to change the bulb color to green or red i used red. they look nice now i just need a way to change my cluster to red

i soldered out all the leds in the a/c and the bulbs behind the dash guages and replaced them with red leds... i supposed u could do the same mabey?

yea im sorry guys i was talking about the gauges in the cluster (speedo, tach, gas etc), but i actually think ill bust out the soldering iron and replace the leds in the dash too. thanks for the tip man...so yea if anyones got any suggestions for the gauge faces for the cluster let me know. thanks!

Actually...
LEDS aren't good for the cluster.

The light pattern will not be uniform. You're better off with an ultra-white bulb combien with translucid red plastic fixed to the gauges cluster.

Halo, you must get asked that all the time. Well, that and your headlgiths. Search it's on the forum a couple times.

Anyway, I took my cluster apart a while ago. There's already blue bulb boots on from the factory, although I do not have blue lighting in my cluster. I should have tried taking them off and see what happened.... I might try the red thing just for fun to see what happens....

anybody know the number for the smaller bulb (the ones that light gas/temp guage) i know the larger one is a 194 but the store couldn't tell me what it was and I couldn't find anything close to it.

i found a guy with LED replacements for all light sizes so if the wide angle ones i got look ok inside the dash, ill get red ones all over to go with em...but i would still like to know if theres a gauge set i can get that glows red

I just went to pep boys' rice isle and found red 194's put them in. I kinda like it :coolugh: The only problem is the smaller bulbs that no one seems to carry....

timanantor that looks pretty good, you should do a write up about it. how hard was it. how much did it cost? less than $20?

Old_s13 would probably be the guy to talk to about LED work....About changing the faces I scanned my gauges before and then modified them in photoshop it worked pretty good but you just need to have almost like a plastic thickness paper and stuff.....it took a few tries but worked out alright.

write up? well, if you know/figure out how to remove your guage cluster (which is really easy) you can do it. Just get the cluster out, take the bulbs out on the back. Replace them with new bulbs, whatever color you like, and there you go. I'm gonna have to figure out something for the smaller bulbs. Either get some type of red rubber boot like the once sold on the ricer isle, pull them totally, or paint them with that clear red stuff people use on there brake lights.... oh, they were $2.99 for 2 and you need 3. It's a totally pointless mod but it's kinda neat I guess. By day one color, by night another...whatever

Yes, old_s13 would be the person to talk to, but he gets enough of this kinda crap as it is. He re-did all of his interior lighting with red LED's and posted a pic but he said it was mega custom work and wouldn't recomend anyone trying it (so don't go bother him) I just got bored and had a few extra bucks in my pocket.....

I actually got tired of teh all red cluster, so I removed the condoms off the bulbs which now illuminate yellowish, and red sharpie to teh needles looks good.. then adjusting the color on my head unit to match the yellow = really nice
