so i am new to this whole nissan family thing but i thought i would share this with you guys for future reference.

I recently got a s14 about 7 months ago and proceeded to purchase a ka24de with 5 spd trans. I chose this because i wanted to familiarize myself with the chassis and the wiriing before jumping into a huge swap.

In my findings i decided to buy a ISIS short throw shifter from an online vendor. Well since the DAY i have been driving my s14 it has been with the isis shifer (v2?). I assumed the guy i got my swap from screwed me over being everytime i have shifted into 2nd and 3rd and 4th it has grinded, not bad but yes it would grind each time. (Keep in mind the guy who sold me the swap swears up and down the trans was perfect and also stated the engine and trans had 131k on them both)

I replaced my fluid with MT90 red line...no difference.

I removed the isis v2 and inspected everything, and everything checked out fine.

I have checked everything i can without taking the trans out to try and figure out why the hell it grinds so much.

So today i said screw the isis SS and put the oem one In it. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Well 22k miles later i am fed up with the BS, i really am and I am at a loss of what to do. I was on the verge of buying another s14 ka trans. So my suggestion to those looking into a short shifter DO NOT buy a ISIS one. I have had nothing but problems out of it and i am pretty sure it has hurt my poor lil trans.

This thread can be moved or deleted but i had to let off some steam AND let you guys know not to buy one of these.

What are you? A prepubescent girl? Keep that shit in your diary. Or start a blog. Or use some resourcefulness by searching for a thread regarding the same item that you are upset about and write your feelings out there.

Just because you can make a thread, doesn't mean you should.

Maybe you're shitty at shifting and putting the oem back in gave your foot just enough time to press the pedal in all the way. haha

^^If the tranny shifts fine with the stock shifter, it doesn't sound like that SS damaged anything... further than it already was.

As far as grinding with a short-throw installed... any pre-existing shifting problem with the tranny will be exacerbated when a short-shift is introduced... Where as with the OEM unit installed, it may not be even noticeable. OEM shifters are much more forgiving in this respect by design.

Another question... Did you happen to have upgraded your motor or tranny mounts? Usually with a short-throw; although not 'necessary' it's a good idea to do so... A SS will be much more sensitive to tranny movement and subsequently much more sensitive to the 'gates' when going into the gears... meaning that if you're moving the shifter one way while the motor & tranny are 'flexing' the other... grinding could happen- especially in a 15-20yr old tranny that has likely never been rebuilt.

I'm not questioning your driving/shifting ability or attempting to insult anyone's intelligence... Just wondering if calling that shifter defective isn't a stretch... They either work or they do not... Any grinding into the gears is usually a clutch, tranny or mounting problem.

More likely than not, the problem has been there the whole time; and will be there with any short-throw installed.

My engine/trans mounts are nismo and are new.

I agree with the SS amplifying the problems the trans may have had before. When i contacted the vendor they said they and several other vendors have heard of this issue when using the isis V2. It is a MFG defective design and it qualifies for a 100% full refund if you can show proof of purchase.

I do know how to drive manual and I am telling you right now mikester...i can run 1st gear up to 6500 and hit 2nd and it drops right in and i can even spin a bit too being it can shift like normal now. With The SS in i had to shift into 2nd suppppeerrr easy or else i would get a HORRID grind...which meant for the last 7 months i have never been able to "hit 2nd" as i like to call it.

mikester you always have great replies thank you for being respectful.

Really...? lol

Since becoming a member of Zilvia, you've been one of the dumbest and most clueless member on here. In the short time that you've been here, you've done nothing but show off your Southern stupidity. I'm not the one here that bought a sub-par shift knob and had problems. I did my research and bought the next to best thing: a Tomei short shifter. Unlike you, I don't resort to cheap parts or show off my stupidity then show some more stupidity on Zilvia.

If I was actually Austin, why do all of my for sale threads say pick up in Southern California and not Minnesota? I thought Austin was more ballin' and doesn't drive a S2000 or a S-Chassis anymore. If you checked my feedback or even googled my username, you would find little to no traces of me being closely or even remotely related or associated with that guy. Your detective work is remarkable.

iv had mine for quiet some time and it shifts good no grinds, just the typical rattle snake in the shifter lol.

maybe you just need to figure out how to shift before you start doing any major engine swaps.

^^Maybe you need to juantwo3 shut the fuck up and read the thread beyond a 4th grade comprehension level.

Although the guy legit combined what probably should have been two separate threads (one here, one in OTC)- At least he posted something that falls into the technical arena; including what he did as far as troubleshooting and how he came to his conclusion (even though I still disagree :p )... which is more than I can say about most of the fucktards that call themselves 'contributors'. Not to mention, he manned up & admitted that his post was probably overly emotionally charged. We've all been frustrated a time or two- Haven't we?

Plenty of newbies posting "Where should I buy" threads here for you to 'contribute to'... and plenty other areas of this forum where you knuckleheads are free to act your ages.

C'mon guys- Chill out. Words of wisdom:

"Never argue with idiots. Each and every time, they will drag you down to their level; then beat the shit out of you with experience.'

Hey before you knock the Short shifter. I have one in my car. No grinds smooth as hell and it doesnt rattle or make noise. I had the same issue as you though and the problem is the pilot bushing in the driveshaft. Pull it out and get a new one. put it in and you will have no grinding in any gear. Trust me on this one.

pilot bushing on driveshaft? AFAIK the pilot is in the flywheel. i installed a new exedy full kit at time of install.

Now with my oem shifter i have no problems at all.

I already pointed out how stupid you are in my first initial post. There are threads already in existence about ISIS short shifters and more broadly, short shifter reviews in general. You're an idiot because of your lack of searching and your quest for comfort with your little rant. To top it off, I just had to applaud you on your detective work on my identity as if I'm hiding behind my computer screen.

I'm not 100% but along the lines of your hours and hours of Zilvia browsing, I'm sure you've seen me among other people saying "do your research first" "search" "search first" etc. yet you decided you wanted to be special and make your own thread to rant about a short shifter from a not always reputable company. Zilvia definitely isn't a place to rant which is why I told your dumbass to get a diary.

E-fame? lol. Again, your lack of research is your demise. A lot of my posts are usually to tell people like you to do some searching using google, the forum's search function, etc.

You're right, I don't like your thread but for the reasons you can't seem to comprehend. With my distaste, it isn't going to stop me from telling people like you to do a little research instead of cluttering up the forum with already covered topics. For what it's worth, I applaud you for trying to come at me via PM, it was cute, "kid".
