I was wondering where should i order a ca18 front clip from? i was wondering if jgycustoms sold them since they are relatively close to me. I want to do the ca swap instead of the sr or turbo the ka. It seems like everyone is doing those so i want to be different and swap in the ca. Most people in my area havn't even heard of the ca. Its seems to be a great high reving motor. What are your opinions on it? thanks ahead of time

I hope the reason your getting this is not just because, you want to be different. If so thats a very bad reason. The motor is a very old motor, and its require a some money and time just to rebuild it so its reliable. And don't forget its very hard to get parts for this motor, unless you have money to have them shipped directly from the UK, Aus, or Japanland. Basically most people i know fabricate there own parts. Its a lot more hassle then the Sr and Ka but iI love the Ca and love the hassle =)

How much would a ca front clip cost me? Im not looking to push a huge amount of horse power out of this motor, roughly around 250. How hard would that be to do? and can the stock internals handle that? im trying to learn as much as i can before i go and puchase anything and i want to do things right the first time.

JGY Customs doesn't usually stock CA18 Motorsets, I know a guy who got a set from them, but that was because they got it by accident. just a fyi.

Yea, that soudns right. I think if I was doing it again, I would go with a clip, but a set may work for you. jarco and venus auto are the major ones I can think of off the top of my head. Also, visit the CA forums on Nico, awsome resorce.

Well i dont have the money in hand, i am working getting paid 7 an hour and trying to save as much as i can, and i am selling my talon tsi motor for 500 here soon. From you with personal experiance should i buy the clip or just go with a full motor set? I am not mechanicly inclined enough to do the swap my self, But if i get the wiring done at jgy customs them me and a few buddies should be able to tackle the job. I would like to have this motor in my car by the end of summer, but im not sure if thats going to happen or not

i never did any wiring in sa car beside ome stereo install and my wiring is perfect.... well i can do a better work.. but ho well , it was the first time :)

For the wiring, make sure you do ALL the grounds, or else, by by ECU..... Don't ask me how i know...

I wasn't planning on doing the wiring my self. I don't know if i will be able to swap the motor in my self with a few friends or if i should have it done at a shop. Or maybe some of you that are close to me and know a thing or two about the swap could lend a hand to a zilvia user in need lol :hsdance:

get yours from "boost boy" over at nico in miami. he gets ones in and they are around 2k but he stands by what he sells.
stay away from that importer in manassas, VA. I can't think of the name. they fucked me over on my ca18det a couple years ago. JGY customs doesn't stock ca18dets, and I called them more than a few times and they said they would have to order it, and if they order it they mark it up, because they don't normally stock it, so it was gonna be like 2600 and I said forget it.
and venus is OK, there was a guy on nico that received his "compression tested" motor from venus and it arrived with the rod through the block... so thats a bunch of bullshit. but they replaced it for free, including shipping. thing is, shipping from CA is a bitch. at least in miami you could maybe take a weekend and go pick it up.
drop in over at nico and ask around. there are also importers on the east coast of canada but I don't know specifics.
I've never bought engines from jarco but they have been good to me on the stuff I have bought, and their prices seem good. they are in georgia so again, not too bad of a drive. and they stock all sorts of stuff so maybe if youre thinking about some skyline seats, or wheels, or a lsd, and you drove down you could just stock up?

Yeah, Ive talked to boost boy a couple of times and he quoted $1600 shipped plus some gaskets, pretty good. BUT everyone has been advising me to get a front clip, so Im kinda torn right now. I live like 15 minutes south of atlanta, so I was looking at jarco. Its eiter boost boy motorset $1600 +/- or jarco clip $2,000. What would you get? clip or motorset?

I am in Japan and it is tough to find parts (performance and OEM) for a CA....it is a dinosaur and well I have only seen a few CA's that were over 400HP that lasted with out over heating (a huge problem with the CA) I had a S-13 silvia with a CA for 2 years. That was the most trouble ridden engine I have ever dealt with I rebuilt it with brand new stock parts had the block flushed and even after all that trouble that rebuild only lasted 11 months at 390hp. So to be different is expensive. I am only speaking from my experiance with MY PARTICULAR CA but they are all built from the same materials with the same precsion.

If you dont know much about doing swaps and want a complete package than get a clip. I got my CA18DET clip from Venus but I went myself to compression test the motor and such. I hear bad things about Venus sometimes and I dunno about buyin a motor from them w/o checking it out in person.

Dont get a CA to be different though, its not worth it. You might be happier with a SR20 which you can get a ton of parts here in the states and they have torque. CA18 dont got power till like 3K rpm and the stock T25 dies at like 6.5K. That means u got good power for about 3.5K rpm. You are also going to need to replace a lot of stuff before you throw the motor in for it to be reliable. This is like the water pump, timing belt, etc. All can be found on the CA18DE from Pulsar.

ok, just a little bit of information for you guys, dont get a CA just to be different, its not a good reason, it means you dont know the advantages, and the disadvantages of the motor, its gonna end up costing you alota money. and for everyone that says parts are easy to find, blah blah blah, use the pulsar NX, well, have you tried to get parts for the CA? cuz i have, i work at a dealer, and the parts are not availiable in the USA, i have to wait for my gasket kit and main bearings to get sourced in japan then get here, its not easy, and it certainly isnt fast. the pulsar is so old, nissan doesnt stock parts for it anymore, they have a 15 yr rule, anything older than 15 years, they dont have to stock parts for. your best bet is to have connections with ppl in japan because most dealers wont go through the hassle to get parts from japan.

my ca is reliable .. just changed the waterpump ( the gasket was shot but the pump was fine. I changed it just to be sure )

If you got a nice healthy engine ... reliability should be there

I wouldn't get a clip, comes with so much shit you don't need. and then you have to get rid of it when you are done. seriously, all you need is the motor, the tranny, the uncut harness, and the computer. The rest you probably want to replace anyway (hoses, radiator, vaccuum lines, intercooler, downpipe). This shit is OLD so just because it comes with a clip doesn't necessarily make a clip more valuable.
In the case of that one from venus, if it comes with a rear diff then that is certainly a nice plus. But the decision is up to you. With a clip you KNOW you will have everything you need and you can mark it carefully, pull both engines, and swap it straight over (aside from the wiring). With a motorset, you will have to do some things that I would WANT to do anyway (previously mentioned items).
So its up to you.
