Hey, I'm sorry. I am completely anal in a couple of areas. Fixing machinery is one, grammar is another. I'm not trying to be an ass, but it seems no one knows the difference between "your" and "you're" and it's a pet peeve of mine.
YOUR is personal possession.
i.e. Is that YOUR CAR? YOUR dog peed on my foot.
NOT: "YOUR" going to like this movie.
____________________________________
YOU'RE is a contraction. You + are = you're.
i.e. YOU'RE joking! (YOU ARE joking!) YOU'RE a 240sx fan, right? YOU'RE going to like this movie.
Phonetically, you're is (yoo-ur). Your is (yor)
Seriously, this is meant for people who don't know the difference. I once saw an advertisement for the Hilton hotel chain in which "Your" was used instead of the proper "you're". I can assure you, someone in the advertising department lost his or her job over that. Hilton is a company that caters to important, well-educated people. A screw up even as minor as "your" vs. "you're" costs them credibility and respect. As it is in everyday life.

Hold you're horses! Your taking this too far!

You ain't kidding!
Most people know the difference, but type too fast to realize they typed the wrong word...I'd try not to get so riled up about it.
Besides, down here (MS), phonecically, "you're" and "your" are both pronounced something like "yer".;)

Yeah, I'm not really riled up about it. Just thought it needed to be said. I already used up my bitching about my clutch, so I had to find something else.

Y'all recognize the description on the thread right? Movie trivia for ya. (I so don't have a life. Watch waaaay too many movies.)
People never seem to read what they wrote, sometimes it makes it dificult to understand what they are saying. I am never in a hurry to say what I want so I don't have to type fast and can read my post before I place it, others may not have such a luxury (at work maybe.)

Yeah, know what you mean. By the way, I don't think I'm gonna make it down to the show on Sun. I'm hoping I can get my tranny out tomorrow night. I think I'm gonna have to start early though, maybe skip work. Flag engine and machine is only open from 8-1 on Sat. and I have to have that flywheel. As it is, I'm catching the plane to go home on Tues, but I still want to take the trip. Anyway, I'll call you. If I don't, give me a ring and let me know.

I make that mistake a lot , its not that I dont know the difference it's just that I am typing too fast to realize it. The funny thing is I never used to do it. The internet, and instant messaging has ruined my grammar, because i never read what write before going on anymore.

I do it a lot too - typing too fast - invariably go d'oh just after I hit send

hey chicken, I too am a grammar freak. I can't stand people that cant' spell!!! I always get them in groups at my school, and I always have to do the work. sheez! most of the time I do get a lil confused when people put...*Your, for you're. and *Well, for we'll. but it's not a huge pet peeve of mine like it is yours, but it still bothers me a lot too!!

....imagine going from typing this "chat board/forum slang" pretty often to typing "business/profesional letter form" in a place of business. i keep finding myself wanting to type "u" instead of "you", and "ur" instead of "your" OR "you're", etc etc. i dont know how many of u deal with this but it sure keeps me on my toes when writing now. im waiting for my boss to throw a letter/note back at me one of these days with RED marks and corrections all over it!! u get a f**kin "F"!!!!

I agree that message board grammar is hardly a step up from 2nd grade grammar. For me, it would be harder to think "ne1" than to just type anyone. I would also like to add "they're" vs. there vs. their (contraction vs. location vs. plural possessive noun).
BTW: Now you all owe me for this (warning for those at work!!):

I probably make some mistakes too, but please forgive me: I'm a little foreign . I've been here for about five years or so, but I've seen people who were born and raised and went to school in this country who spell and speak worse than I do. Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you...

i just type "ur" for stuff like this, but if i'm writing a paper for english class or whatever then i'll take my time n look over it cuz the differences r pretty simple to remember, that's like 2nd grade back in the day.
It is kind of frustrating while at work, when you click on a link someone posted, and get something totally unexpected, I try to post a warning, like "shouldn't be opened at work"
Yea, It is hard to adjust from internet typing to typing an email or letter to a Director of an organization. I always have to proof read to make sure. Grammer is becoming a problem

Hey - I put a warning on it! If you guys missed it, I will not be held responsible. But if it makes you feel any better, I got it at work without a warning and opened it... first one I went for - you guessed it - with the volume jacked up so I could hear the Star Wars Ep. II trailer! It all but echoed
[email protected] - that is such a Mad Max meets Fast and Fury Assed depiction. I have a nice plush office (and a double major that included English).
