Hey guys im in need of a new engine and ive found the awd rb25s for way cheap over the regular rb25s. My question is, is there a difference between the two besides the awd driveline? Any helpe would be great thank you.

Pan is really the big diff, but with a slight bit of modification you can make them fit. Search google and you will find what you are looking for.

oil pan has to be cut and welded.

this guy recently did it.

Bingo.

There was one thread a while back about someone modding the RWD pan to fit. I think he made a template of the AWD pan mounting surface and made his own mounting surface for the RWD pan. But that requires you to have a RWD pan.

Same as converting a rb26 pan to rwd just go with link posted above. Plus its a alloy pan vs the rwd steel one so better imo. I almost got a awd 5speed Neo6 motor to replace my rb20 with this spring for $1500 at jdm engine world in n y.c but missed it by a day.
Also if feeling extra cool you can modify a awd transmission to rwd and save some money rather than spending $800-1k on a rb25 trans and proper clutch. From what I remember awd is a pull style clutch and rwd is push.
Heres a link to pics of what a modded trans looks like also youll need a rb26 propeller shaft.

I posted some of the differences in this thread with pics.

I replaced my rb25 with a awd neo 25. The response is very noticable even with the same turbo setup. Probably due to higher compression and solid type cams. Worth it imo.

Basically if you already have a rb25 swap, you will need to keep everything from it. You only need the neo engine itself. Use all other parts from your existing swap. Like intake manifold, harness, ect. You will have to use the neo cas, just flip the wires in the connector, just like turning a dinner fork over.

I used the awd pan to start, just cut off the diff and welded closed. The pan has the braces for trans built in. A steel pan can be used, the block has the 10mm holes in it as well as 14mm holes/studs for awd pan.

Good info, and your mad welding skills probably made it possible for you to just weld the holes shut ;)
