View Full Version : sr20det bogging problem, HELP!

Hey everyone, new to Zilvia and fairly new to s-chassis in general, so excuse my lack of knowledge.. but have a few questions concerning my build...

Basically i picked up an s14 that was already sr-swapped, and the car is very clean for a canadian car. Hardly any rust, chassis is great, everything feels tight. However it feels slow. Sluggish taking off, sluggish through boost.. It almost feels as though its not getting enough fuel or that the car is being choked. Ive done all new boost lines, and FMI couplers, as well as checked all of my BOV and wastegate connections.. Thought it was boost leaks and after i did the couplers and lines it fixed the problem marginally, but it still feels slow. Ive heard it may be a fuel pump/FPR issue? ive compression tested the car and its 155s across all 4 cylinders, with 1 cylinder at 160. Ive driven a few other stock Srs running on stock boost like mine and they pull much harder and have better throttle response. I actually drove at shannonville for drift day a few weeks ago and the car bogged so much that it wouldnt even maintain tire spin in second gear. Couldnt gather enough revs it seemed. Basically the power was not there.

Im going to keep looking to try and find other solutions but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Typically bogging is a boost leak issue or vaccume leak. Best bet would be check all your intercooler pipe connections and vaccume line connections. If all of those are ok it could have something to do with your throttle body. Good luck.

Okay ill double check all of that! thanks for the reply. The car itself is clean and its done a bunch of stuff so far. trying to address the motor right now. Wasn't sure if i was over thinking it and that i just expected it to make more power. but then i drove a few other SRs and then at the track and it would barely spin tires. clutch kicking at 5000 and it would spin and then lose power and bog out. Ill keep trying though. If i confirm that the IC couplers and boost/vacuum lines are all sealed and tight, what could it be related to the throttle body?

If you are not 'bucking' back and forth, I would look at timing and then wastegate opening wrong /leaking vac source & verify it actually operates.

Yeah a lot of times people overlook the throttle cable linkage. It could be too loose abduction its not opening the throttle plate enough causing it not to be as responsive. You should also look at the blowoff valve. If you have the stock BOV connected to the sidemount intercooler. Those are known to ve really crappy and can cause a lot of boost leaks. A way to check it is have a friend stick they'ear next to it as you do a couple rpm snaps, if he hears some hissing as its collecting boost it means its time to get a new BOV.

Check your baseline timing first before anything else. Would hurt to put some fresh plugs in there too since you dont know how old they are.

Mine was a bad fuel pump stock sr with fmic kit I had a wideband luckily and my air fuels were off buy a walboro if you don't have one already make sure the fuel is there. To much fuel is better then not enough

Thanks a lot! I'll check it out and see. from what i can tell, theres no more boost leaks... ive done all the couplers and it seems to be boosting hard and maintaining pressure. it just doesnt seem to pull as hard as it should. ill check the fuel pump for sure and see if that fixes anything. thanks for the replies everyone!
