My exhaust hangers keep breaking...

Well, as the title says, I'm having miserable luck with my exhaust hangers. A few weeks ago, they all broke, letting my exhaust hang down and bounce around over bumps. Now, I'm again hearing that all too familliar noise, of my exhaust bouncing up and down against the bottom of my car. What could be the cause of this repeated breakage? And is there anything stronger that I can replace them with? Also will getting an aftermarket exhaust help this problem in any way? (Maybe it'll attach differently?)

maybe over-tourque on the bolts and incorect exhaust fitment is the problem?? it cant be breaking all the time. weird

240s have a problem with this. Some people are just fortunate to have healthy hangers. The factory 240 exhaust didn't incorporate and flex joints, and so the entire exhaust is one piece from the manifold back. (Some people have exhaust leaks at the head due to this) Just incorporate a flex joint somewhere, and you should be fine. I had the same problem you have. I actually have a chain holding the muffler in the rear.

Will an aftermarket exhaust incorporate flex joints? I'm thinking of an RS*R EXMAG in particular.

It just seems so wierd that the hangers would break again so soon after getting them fixed...

I just got a RS-R Exmag GT2 and its currently banging against the tow hook. I'm thinkin of chopping off the tow hook. Otherwise its a sweet exhaust.

Same problem here. I use hose clamps around the hangers and cinch them up tight. No more torn hangers, no more swinging exaust, and a few mm extra ground clearence!

had my tow hook torched off for my gp spec d and it would have been an issue with clearance for my 5zigen proracer too.

Those rubber parts are pretty thick, might want to consider getting new ones. Hell even on my 89 before some got cut from some bitches jacking my spec d they were still good. it hot out where you are?

Yeah, it has been pretty hot here. Still, that shouldn't explain two week old hangers breaking. I think I may just go the hose clamp route. Unfortunately, It'll have to wait, as I'm leaving the country tomorrow evening.

Of course, the other problem is that I'll have to go to my mechanic and have him do it, which I never like to do, as I don't have anywhere where I can do the work myself...

just get new hangers, make sure ALL of them are installed.

Mine broke once, no biggie.. just change it and be done with. if they are new and you have ALL of them on, it should be more than sufficient.

Maybe my mechanic didn't put them all on? I'll have to make sure he does this time. Again, I'd do it myself, but I don't have anywhere I can do it. (I live on a hill, so I can't work in the street, and my garage is full of crap my parents won't let me get rid of...
