Last week I decided to put the water pump on my car ('92 240 stock) that I had bought about 2 months earlier. When I pulled the upper fan shroud I found that the bracket that holds my A/C fan/motor was destroyed. The AC fan and motor assembly still attached to the broken bracket was sitting on the lower fan shroud and had been being beat up between the radiator and the radiator fan. So I just removed it all. Swapped in my new water pump as well as a new thermostat. Did some other little things and just got it put back together. Thought I would just run without the A/C fan until I could find another bracket (meanwhile not using the A/C of course).
Took it for a test drive, after just a few minutes the temperature gauge was through the roof! I quickly put it back in the garage. I opened the radiator and let it spill over and cool down, then I started it up again and while it was running I picked up the A/C fan and plugged it in, and it started going. So I guess it doubles as an electric cooling fan?
If this is the case then would just having it out be enough to have had the temp go up so quick?
