Hi,

I recently have purchased a 95 nissan 240sx se factory 5 speed n/a.
completely bone stock.
I want to use the car to daily drive and drift.

I mainly am here to ask, what should my first upgrades be?
A simple list is all I'm asking so don't say search the forums, or google.

I want to turbo the car, motor swap? and/or eventually have it fully built. But for now
I have to start small and do "smart" upgrades first. Im looking for Fast, Reliable, leaving cheap out of the question....

Thanks,
David

Whatever you want man if you're more into looks get some nice rims or lower your car if you're more into performance save up for an engine swap it all depends on what you're more into.

I like form and function, id prefer function over form if i had to choose one...

Thanks @instancez will take this into note, would a welded stock s14 diff be sufficient for a while? I know how pricey diffs could be, i wouldnt know which diff to actually get, ive searched about diffs before but understanding which is better i dont get..

-coilovers im looking into 'stance'-
-i will get some sparcos or bride soon-
-lsd im unsure of whats best, easiest for a beginner drifter.-

Yeah, welded is fine too. 2 ways are just more "proper" I guess. If you can afford a 2 way, definitely get it because it's probably better and easier to learn with a real 2 way, but either one will do basically the same thing. The only difference is that the 2 way isn't always 100% locked all the time like the welded, and if you hold the clutch in the 2 way will act like an open diff, if you want it to.

Troof right here. Knock out all maintenance concerns first though.

You don't need a motor swap or a turbo to drift as a beginner. As a daily driver, it won't be the fastest thing around, but it will be pretty damn fun.

okay i get what your saying...100% lock isnt desirable for daily driving is it?
heard it was really un-safe during highway driving, and parking lol

i know..im going to do maintenance first of course, but in s14 terms (ka) what should i do first maintenance wise? (i replaced the clutch, flywheel, front tires, oil changed, new back window and seals. so far.)

I KNOW you dont need a motor swap or turbo to drift, i was saying those are things im definitly going to do, because im not with driving a slow ass car, i have a rx7 and gsx both are high hp cars with turbo's that i consider baby suckers.
I just prefer being turbo'd to have more fun and i love boosting around town. :drama:

look up spool and you will see what i am referring to. it basically locks your rear end 100% during accel, decel, and coasting. it is locked 24/7 and is less prone to breakage like a welded diff.

Coils, Welded diff, Seat. Like stated earlier, if you can get a 2 way, get it. But a welded diff is a lot cheaper and works just as well most of the time. People say having a locked diff in a daily driver sucks but I have a welded diff in my 240 and I would gladly daily drive that car. I actually drive it on the street a bit and it doesn't bother me at all.

But for coilovers, NEVER buy cheap ones. Ever. Unless you find a really nice used set from a good brand that's kinda affordable, then that's different. But don't buy any of the eBay knockoff crap like Emusa or Godspeed or CX Racing or whatever. Never ever.

Don't cheap out on a seat either. Get a good seat. A Sparco or Momo is an affordable, quality seat. Again, stay away from eBay.

Those three things are all you need to get really good at drifting. Hell I had a stock seat in my 240 when I started drifting and did just fine, but I'd get a seat if you can.

You might want to look into the DMAX coilovers that GTR-Garage sells, they seem to have great reviews and for a great price. D-Max Super Street Coilovers (S14) | GTR Garage (http://www.gtr-garage.com/collections/d-max/products/copy-of-new-d-max-super-street-coilovers-s14)

Also, for LSD, I think the 2 way Kaaz Super Q is probably the best, but it's pretty expensive (over $1000).

Can't do that sorry. There's plenty of lists already about upgrades.

Search the forums for the answer. Look at people's build threads and take notes.

Actually on second thought... It's your car, do what you want to do first.
