well, i have a set of used brake calipers i'm gonna throw on my car, but the previous owner had painted them bright red, which is really not my style. i did a search but only found ways to put paint ON the calipers. i'm wondering whats the best way to take paint OFF the caipers? i dunno if i should use any harsh paint strippers cuz they might get on the rubber dust boot and ruin it or something...

you can probably find a local sand blasting company that will blast it for like 20bucks... or bead blast... etc... they are fast, and ok priced...

leave it on.....the red paint adds 20 percent to your stopping power!

heh

no oven cleaner...let it soak and leave them out in the sun a while.

Sand/bead blasting will get them down to clean metal. A lot of auto shops will have a blasting cabinet. I used my uncle's and now I use it to clean a bunch of parts. You're gonna have to rebuild them if you do this though, which is probably a good idea anyway. Are they 300zx calipers?

polished aluminum Z calipers, would be very nice...

just soak them in old brake fluid, it'll take the paint right off and it obviously isn't bad for the rubber parts.

brake parts cleaner only takes off the oils and stuff, you'd need something that removes paint.

I used a dremel and it's various sanding tools.

JASCO - It'll remove paint off calipers and flesh off bones.
