did you guys have a button to open the trunk along with your fuel door? My car has the button to push to open the fuel door, but there is no label to open the trunk by pulling. I thought this was weird....There's no picture of the trunk on the latch, and if you try to pull it nothing happens (there's resistance when you try to pull it).

What I'm trying to say is, did you 97, 98 base model guys have a lever to pull to open the trunk? The only way I can open my trunk is by using the key (pretty lame)

Also, my side view mirrors are black, but my car is red. It's not supposed to be different colors, is it?

base model has unpainted mirrors I believe... my 98 240sx SE (I say that after the 5 lug swap :) ) was lucky enough to be black, so it was never an issue, but the trunk release on mine is fully functional. dunno, maybe yours isn't adjusted correctly.

I have a 93 base model. When I got the car, the owner told me that the lever didn't work anymore cause his brother was messing around with the trunk lock.

When i took the car home, I looked around in the trunk lock area and found a switch. I flipped the switch and now my lever opens the trunk.

It is the valet trunk lock switch.

The reason for the switch is so that when you give your car up for valet parking, you can put your stuff in the trunk and the dude wont' be able to pop it with the lever to take ur stuff. .....o yeah, there is a key that only works for ignition and door locks but not the trunk.

It is still pointless to have all that, because they can drop ur rear seats down and bam! instant access to your trunk 0_o

My 97 base does not have the trunk thing either. The base is pretty stripped :-(

5 lugs do not make an SE model out of your base.

Have you checked near the trunk latch? There is a switch there the can go up and down. If you push it down it prevents the in-car switch from working. If you pull it up it allows you to open the trunk with the switch. See if that's the problem. I doubt even a base car would not come with a trunk lock switch.

yeah, that's kind of weird considering how my BASE MODEL 95 had one. The thing with the 97,98 is that the trunk/gas release lever is that there is NO PICTURE of the trunk like there should be. You know how it says trunk: Pull, Gas: push? The 97 base only says Gas: Push

it is true. the base koukis dont have the trunk release cable.
even on the handle, it doesnt show the little picture of the trunk lid.

how much did that cost you to install?

I find it weird that 95,96 had the trunk release, but the 97,98 didn't. You'd think it'd be the other way around since the 97,98 is newer

thats odd...my 97 was a base model and it had the trunk latch. Its the same lever as the gas door. For the gas door i push down and for the trunk i pull it up. But then again, my base model had the power and convenience (sp?) package (i.e. sunroof, 8 split spoke mesh style wheels, painted mirrors...) so maybe thats why.

I have a freaky LE/Base hybrid. Seems like Nissan was just throwing stuff together at the end. I got leather, 4 lugs, power everything and G20 rims. My trunk lever works.

Just get a alarm system and install a trunk popper.

5 lugs do not make an SE model out of your base.

I know that, but if I say base and then show people pictures, they're all like, why's it go 5 lug? so I just say SE for other peoples knowledge. my base has got everything I want on it, and crap I didn't want... like sunroof.

Yea, i think they threw a bunch of stuff together....have base with painted mirrors, trunk/gas levers, 4 lug G20 wheels that i got rid of....I also had connectors for fog lights......those funny japanese

There are different "bases." Mine came with no pwr locks (I went aftermarket), no cruise, no tilt, no trunk latch, no map lights, 5spd (costs less than auto), no cig lighter but it is still a 12v supply, and 4 lug, and also no radio/cd player, or any speakers. I mean mine is STRIPPED! But I've replaced most of it with after market and hey, thats just less weight for me! 0wn3D! When looking for my car, my main goal was either White, Black, or Red (not in any order) Kouki, 5spd. And I figured once I had the car, I could do as I please. It's worked out pretty well.

a friend of mine helped me out. you basically got to take your seats out and panels to run the cable.

my car did not have power door locks, cruise, tilt steering, power mirrors (it's pre wired though), glove box lock, intermittent wipers, door inserts, passenger side mirror, trunk release. but I have added most of them. those items come with the "popular equipement package." I do have A/C though.
