I though originally I would make a build thread during the process of building my car, but my laptop crashed and I lost most of my pictures so I lost motivation to start it. However, with the end of this season coming close to an end I figure now's as best of time as any.

I'll be documenting, hopefully, what's new during this winter for next season.

For now I'll start with when I first got my 180. I've had other 240's prior to this but they weren't important. One went through 2 KA's, 2 KAt's and an RB20, the second was my winter beater...

I actually can't remember how many years ago I bought it but this is it the first day I brought it home. It came straight from the importers like this.

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/227488_1060261280805_6341553_n.jpg

I cleaned it up a bunch and took some...better(?) photos of it

I drifted around on the street/parking lot, fucked up. Wasn't anything I couldn't fix. My pops laughed when I brought it home, his only words were "Fix it."

Threw a silvia front on, painted it all nice, then shortly realized I hated it...so I went back to popups. Drifted a few local events quite frequently.

I undoubtfully hated the way my car looked, but I was broke so I didn't really care that much.

Did some nose to nose burnouts with a friend and his 180.

Did some more local days (Canadian Sport Compact Series :: Index (http://www.cscs.ca)) which I know ironicly run the drifting portion.

This one is of a certain other car a lot of you know of.

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/179041_1661107701590_540689_n.jpg

And then, I put it away where it sat for a while as I travelled for work throughout the states.

This picture has more history then most people would even know.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/259913_1926164807852_1143161_n.jpg

The "build" started when a friend I found a unit a friend and I would later rent. Another car a lot of you know.

Brought my car to the unit after finally getting back from a friend (Centerline Motorsports) who built the cage.

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/14/8c6d.jpg

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/10/1d33.jpg

It sat like this for a while until I found some actual motivation and money to work on it.

Got my motor back from the builder with a fresh rebuild so I put that back together (somewhat)

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/822/5jq5.jpg

After seeing some work Liam had done to his Cefiro I decided I was done watching and attempted to attack my damaged tubs. Originally I was going to fix the stock tubs, however they were far past my liking of original....so I cut them completely out and basically mirrored what I had learned from watching Liam.

This was legitimately my FIRST time ever fabricating anything and every welding something so my nerves were through the roof. But I had some determination at least. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have learned what I did, which I'm incredibly thankful for.

I even went as far as cutting way high for some extra clearance.

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/203/hted.jpg

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/33/6k8m.jpg

After everything was welded in I threw on some sealer and coated the underside in rocker guard (rubber coating).

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/593/oa1x.jpg

http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/94/fkhf.jpg

Basically after that it was all about putting everything back together and making/mocking up what needed to be done.

Paul ended up sharing the unit with me for a while since Liam had finished his car.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/542916_3268018593358_863319292_n.jpg

I ended up buying Pauls old turbo setup (GT2871r .86).

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/559517_3505663174324_1316377708_n.jpg

And my management

https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/246541_3699349016349_1859445367_n.jpg

Positioned my custom high mount intercooler (no, its not PBM...I get asked that all the time)

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/282221_3767514480443_1523994956_n.jpg

Made adjustments for piping and rad clearance.

https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/601013_3779299575063_621860345_n.jpg

During which time I needed to decide on power steering, so I went and did some research on a custom setup.

I have a FULL AN power steering setup and cooler...again, first time ever doing something like this so I was a little impressed with myself on the end result.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/552439_3944458343929_1949726214_n.jpg

I later decided I didn't want to run the setup Paul had so I had my friends at Centerline fab me up a nice top mount manifold to accomodate my new tial wastegate and turbo

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/311987_4050624198009_73185538_n.jpg

After everything was manily assembeled in the engine bay I pulled it out for paint

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/523273_4040456983835_1372432608_n.jpg

What was a heap of a mess, turned out to be quite something I was incredibly proud of.

I had everything buttoned up in the engine bay, all my fuse boxes and ecu was nicely tucked now in my glove compartment, everything was good to go!

I threw on some roller wheels and started it up with a base tune.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/578946_10200235979016191_1253358617_n.jpg

It was incredible hearing my car run under it's own power (kind of) for the first time in I think 2 years?

The feeling was speechless.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/625668_10200236099739209_1019050064_n.jpg

After some settling down and a few weeks/months later I saved up some money for some other goodies.

I decided I should be running an oil cooler, so I quickly ordered a matching cooler.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/562162_10200336438927626_267150694_n.jpg

Also threw on some test wheels in a size I was about to purchase.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/541199_10200324316944584_1035063538_n.jpg

I picked up a set of my top 3 favourite wheels from another friend of mine for a steal of a deal.

Tires were next, but that's later one...fenders also.

Next I booked my appointment with Sasha @ OnPoint Dyno

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/165413_10200427953095423_1609965541_n.jpg

I had it tuned on 91 pump gas but wasn't essentially happy with the numbers. I was started to get a little knock and we settled at 313hp/300tq at 16psi. I now run 94...and no more knock.

...and obviously obligatory burnouts were a necessity.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/922940_10200468971800865_893246705_n.jpg

The car sat for a little while some more dust collected and decisions were made.
My good friend hooked me up with his old body kit. A genuine 326 Power rear bumper and sideskirts. My all time favourite for an S13 hatch. I couldn't say no.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/485421_10200487724509671_1171961044_n.jpg

Again, sitting for a while I had my subframe powder coated (british racing green) and threw in my PBM risers.

Also bought a tomei oil block adapter because I kept leaking through the seals on my grex and was tired of sandwich plate problems...

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/935739_10200502118909522_422305233_n.jpg

At this point Kristian is now sharing the unit with me

https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/166001_10200577734239858_590996566_n.jpg

So with everything essentially done, motor and suspension wise I figured I'd head out to a track day. I was antsy and couldn't wait to get behind the wheel of my car after so long.

So we loaded up!

Videos from that day:

It's been so long I was still getting used to this "new" car.

At the end of the day some things went wrong and well...when we got back to the unit this had to happen.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/424625_10200704946140076_1733271953_n.jpg

Long story short, I should have done some things when I had the chance...and I didn't. Lesson learned. Fortunately a new-used bottom end was hooked up by another friend.

Then I picked up a new front bumper while the car was sitting idle and I was putting the motor back together.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/971139_10200892062857877_921768168_n.jpg

Few days or a week later? The car was running again and I had it running around the unit. Decided to mock up some of the aero.

And then a few days later I threw it back on insurance (not as easy as it sounds) and got it on the road again. Decided to drive it home...where my dad was very curious about this "new" car he had never seen. He hadn't realized it was my old 180 I've had all along...he was impressed and approved. That all in its own was a great accomplishment.

https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/954742_10201056806296360_894668988_n.jpg

And then, something happened...the two cars that were built together decided to have a little meeting.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/539014_10201095206976353_218087047_n.jpg

SO I guess that's it for my "intro" essentially. Stuff will start to update again once I break something or a track day comes up. Nov 2 is one I'm going to try attending If I'm not delayed on my flight back from Cuba the day prior.

I'd like to thank everyone who's every helped with any part of this, and especially the people still actively involved. I have some incredible friends I can safely call family. I won't name you as you all know who you are.

I guess keep updated?

Glad, I didn't need to do so.

A friend of mine took a few shots of my car the other night.

It's starting to get cold here so the amount of time I have left to drive my car is becoming very limited.

Where are you finding these sweet storage spaces?

They're specific "workshop" units that allow this type of use.

Where are you located?

That's pretty far from where we are.

Look into local places near you that allow "workshops" or business to be run out of.
I didn't know it until moving in but there are a TON of woodworkers that work out of units like this.

nice transformation. must be an amazing feeling to get back behind the wheel after having your car sit for so long. btw, what front bumper are you running?

So, a turn of events I guess.

Yesterday on my way to work I noticed something was a little off in the car. And during boost I noticed my water temp was adjusting ever so slightly, which wasn't normal.

I got into boost and temps began to rise, I knew what was happening...headgasket.

Pulled over, let it cool down and check for any other possibilities.

The car runs fine under 2k and no boost but as soon as I throw any PSI at the motor it begins to get passed the headgasket and start overheating.

Roel and I did a compression and leakdown test.

The compression test showed low compression on cylinder 2 and 3 however I didn't check it when I threw in the second bottom end, I really didn't want to know the compression. It's not low enough to cause any major issues.

The leakdown test showed cylinder 1 is leaking to cylinder 2 between the head and block and cylinder 3 to 4 between the block.

I'm most likely done driving the car for the season, I made it ALMOST to the end lol. If I wasn't going to Cuba at the end of this month I might consider swapping in a headgasket and driving for another week but I don't think I'm going to do that.

Shitty, but it's not the end of the world.
Oddly enough I was getting excited coming into the 2014 build setup because I know how I want to change a few things.

Have been neglecting the car for a few days. Taking a break from cars for a couple weeks.
Going to Cuba on thursday for a week...glad to be finally taking the FIRST vacation I've ever taken.

Once I'm back I'll start making my 2014 build list. Should be interesting.

My buddy Mike sent me some pics from a couple weeks ago that he shot.

It was nice taking a break from cars for a while.

Sat back, saved some cash, went to cuba...It's almost like a life exists outside of fixing what's broken lol.

However, back to real life...

I started taking apart the car and putting it on it's final resting spot for the winter.
Took of a few parts and sold them off yesterday actually. I threw a picture up on instagram before posting my FS ad and they were gone.

Bumper and lights went quick

Some more progress and part orders shall be had in the next few weeks. It's snowboarding season now so that will encompass some of my funding also.

It's a full house. Some cleanup needs to be done for sure though.

Normally I would have just pulled the setup with the motor out but a buddy of mine wants to mock up some manifold stuff on it tomorrow so I'm lending him my car/motor.

My plans were 50/50 on buying a precision turbo that's bigger than my 2871r but I'm still contemplating that.

My top mount setup however is for sale, including the tial 38mm wastegate. I'll post it up in the FS section soon.

I have you on FB? LOL, sorry dude, what's your name? I just sent out a mass invite for our media page. That's where I work, as lead graphic designer.

On a side note I picked up some unexpected goodies last night that will greatly reduce my costs and speed up my build.

This weekend was productive. I got a chance to adjust some things on my new bottom end.

It's equipped with Mahle 86.5mm Pistons, Eagle Rods, ACL Bearings and ARP Main studs.
When reading up on the Mahle pistons I came across a few different threads talking about the skirt on the piston coming very close to the oil squirters.

The solution: Clock the oil squirters ever so slightly.

I had checked my pistons and they did infact come close enough to just barely touch. Maybe a hairline piece of contact. Either way, any contact wasn't good contact. So I took out my dremmel and made way with some adjustments. Fortunately I have quite a few oil squirters so If I messed up I wasn't too worried. I didn't mess up however.

Left is the adjusted squirter and right is the original.
It's actually very smooth in person. I forgot to clean off the aluminum shavings when I took the picture...looks ugly, but works.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/823/ojv6.jpg

And here's the block ready to start swapping parts onto it. I'll need to finish buying some parts for my head however. That's also getting a few internal upgrades before matting them together.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/801/wwgr.jpg

Finally, tonight I got my other motor ready to come out of the car. All it needs is to be hooked up and hoisted out. My push of motivation definitely came from getting my bottom end predicament together, as that was probably the biggest portion (money wise) for this years build. So that took some weight off my shoulders and very early into the off-season I might add.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/547/ltdl.jpg

Once the motor is out I can started re-mocking up where I want to run my harness. I wasn't very happy where I had put it when first doing all this. I'm probably going to route it similar to how I have it now, just on the drivers (RHD) side.

Also going to move my power steering resevoir maybe closer to the passenger headlight. The lines and res. really did get close to my previous turbo setup which always made me weary and made working on it even harder. With my new manifold being made, and a bigger turbo, that could only continue to cause problems. So for this years build that's on the list of major changes.

That's it for this weekend! The motor will come out sometime this week hopefully. And I believe we're picking up Kristians motor as well sometime. That is going to be one hell of a motor...

Been a few weeks since anything has really happend. I've been dealing with some non-car related issues so things slowed down for a little.

Everything is back on pace however and parts are starting to show up again.

The first half of my head parts showed up thanks to a member on here.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/845/ovf6.jpg

I also started re-wiring my interior and getting rid of a load of stuff I didn't originally.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/14/tb71.jpg

And my entire turbo setup has been sold so I can now pickup what I want.
I'm looking at getting a Precision billet 5557 or 5558. Ball bearing would be key but if I can't find one for a good enough price I may just settle with the journal bearing. Either way it should make for some good numbers now that the head and block will both be able to support it.

Stay tuned!

However, if I had enough coin to pickup the same kit you're running...well, I would. That unfortunately isn't happening anytime soon though haha. Plus I want to modify mine strictly for the experience and knowledge.

I've been slacking a bit in the past couple weeks. I don't mind though, I've been enjoying winter.

Took a weekend off to head to Mt. Tremblant with some friends for a good snowboarding weekend. Picked my wheels up on the way home as well, since they were only about 30 min de-tour from us.

That saved me from having to drive 8 hours to pick them up another time.

Decided to "slightly" test fit the 10s on the rear. They fit great!
Will need to cut down my studs though for the center cap. I may end up going back to stock stud size with bolt ons anyways so we'll see.

One of them would have been this new coilpack cover my buddy Jordie made for me (Contact me for any details on having one made...they're $60 for his pre-made ones). He has some for RB20 and SR20. Other motors are currently in the works.

I was going to powder coat it, but after sand blasting it with some very fine sand I liked the finish so much I kept it as is.

So this summer has been more focus on work and stuff than my car. I still put some effort into it, but it wasn't until the past couple months did I really hit it hard.

Long story short, finished off the parts buying, put the motor back together and into the car, finished off my wiring, had my manifold and stuff made, went to the dyno and made a whopping 200hp (197 to be exact).

The power was just dropping off the charts as soon as it got close, no matter how much boost was added. We started to mess around and try to solve it quickly - added timing, took out timing, nothing changed. At first I thought it may be the CAS or cam timing, so I took it back to my shop and assed everything. Made sure all was where it needed to be and went back to the dyno.

Nothing changed and was running into the same problems. I did a compression test and had 200psi on all cylinders except #2. I knew i hadn't fried a ring or piston so I did a leakdown test. My intake valves weren't seating on that cylinder so I knew where my issue had lay.

Got back to my shop and over the week took apart the head and tried re-lapping the valves. Unfortunately that didn't work and sadly the head needed to come off again. I sent it out to a local engine builder on Monday and he knows what's up. He should be done next week at some point hopefully with good news.

And now, a huge pic dump lol

Got my head back from the builder the other day. I've been swamped with work and finalizing papers on a new truck. It was time I upgraded from my little old silverado as it hit 400,000 the other day.

Haven't had a chance to button it back up onto the motor but I picked up an intake manifold also for a steal so I couldn't turn it down.

The head got hot tanked, valve job, trimmed valve stems and decked head.

And the new hwhip that I pick up tomorrow night. Excited to have a new vehicle finally!

Congrats on the new daily! Modern amenities are the BEST!

Driving a new vehicle is so damn satisfying. I feel like my life has substantially been upgraded.

I'll probably sell the wheels off after the winter and get something a little more to my liking.
Going to do the N-Fab bumper as well, and paint all the chrome black. As well as throw a 2.5" levelling kit upfront to help the rake.

I put the head on today and started throwing everything back together...only downside is I forgot to take a picture lol.

Trying to go for a dyno pull this coming week before the snow settles in.

Hoping for good luck here!

So to keep this post semi-relevant heres a shot of when I first picked up the car from the importers in March of 2009.

Got 95% of everything buttoned up this weekend. I'm sick as a dog right now and even getting this far was hard unfortunately.

A lot of this will change over winter as it's essentially to just get it to the dyno again and make some numbers. For example the FPR line that goes over the intake.

I have to modify my current intake pipe to intercooler for the new manifold, put my downpipe and exhaust on then tow it to my tuners this week...*hopefully*

So last week I got a really good deal on some Delphi/PTE 1000cc injectors. I was kind of looking but not really as essentially it was the only thing holding my motor back.

I had 740s recently and I didn't want to risk having them at full duty cycle, and I personally like the look of top feed injectors regardless. I find they look cleaner with a new fuel rail etc.

I'm still going to make AN fuel lines and everything but for now I'll just keep the barb fitting until after I get it dynod next week.

I had to HUNT down a 14mm fuel rail which is harder then it sounds also, ended up with everything working out perfectly though thanks to a few members on here.

I definitely need to powder coat this intake manifold though, it looks horrid.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/540/IkJrz0.jpg

All that's left is to run the fuel lines to a tomei FPR, bolt up my downpipe and see what it puts down on the dyno sometime next week...hopefully lol

So last night went relatively well. A whole bunch of friends came by to hang out and drink, including an old friend of mine, Dan. He used to run a dyno company and later sold it a couple years ago to pursue some other things in life. He probably was, and still is, the best tuner in Canada.

He has my SR running/idling perfect now, even with all the newer "go-fast" parts I put on since the last dyno pull. Considering what's in it it runs like a stock SR...it's amazing.

I'm setting up the dyno appointment for sometime this coming week, hopefully when the weather is good at least.

Well, third time wasn't a charm. I'm beginning to feel beaten by this car at the moment.

Everything with the motor seems to be working very well but we started seeing some fuelling issues. Because of how I have everything setup (no injector resistor) and because I'm running AEM I need to run high impedance injectors now, unfortunately that wasn't something I was aware of (and now know) and will need to change my injector setup.

It was starting to lean out after 5000 no matter how much fuel was added and the injectors were starting to see a high duty cycle (which they shouldn't at 1000cc).

I picked up some ID1000cc injectors the same night but unfortunately couldn't use them right away as I need to change my fuel rail from 14mm to 11mm.

We did burnouts though when I got back to the shop. It was mildly satisfying despite my loss for the night. I'll have to wait for a fuel rail to show up or find one locally before returning to the dyno again. I'm really trying to beat the weather at this point.

I ended up with 325hp at 13psi so far, which is promising, but nothing what it should be nor safe at the moment.

Theres a video of a few of us doing a big burnout on my instagram http://www.instagram.com/vsmartino

So, finally some good news!

I went back to the dyno on saturday after finally finishing everything up.

We made 416.5hp and 334tq at 20psi.

I'm incredibly happy with how things went but can see where to improve come spring time.

Boost is really laggy and coming in around 4900, which for this turbo is greatly disappointing.
We only also set my rev limit to 7000rpm.

Come spring time I plan to probably get a smaller rear housing (.63) versus the .78 I have now, which should help with some spool. I'm also going to re-degree my cams and see if advancing the intake cam a couple degrees will help.

The graph is also climbing which is showing that pushing past 7000rpm will gain me some more power, which is promising.

Overall I'm happy that I'm finally making some power out of this car!

Not much has happened over the past few months.

I went to japan though for two weeks, most of you who follow me on instagram know how that went.

https://igcdn-photos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/t51.2885-15/10914318_989922821022127_1223098049_n.jpg

As for the build, well the .63 housing came in and the motor is sitting on stands right now.
Had to pull it out to re-seal the upper oil pan, change the front timing cover and clean up some wiring/fuel lines in the bay that are just easier with the motor out.

In the process of that though my upper oil pan decided it wanted a divorce and split in half...fortunately I have a spare.

Also made an S13/S14 hybrid valve cover finally. Was tired of my catch can constantly filling up.

Hopefully the motor goes back in this week.

Small update.

The team and I are registered for Gridlife (http://www.grid.life) at the end of may so crunch time is crunching.

Everything started coming together again and started getting my stuff from coating back.
Once the motor was in I was able to clean up some wiring choices I had made previously.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/908/lsQqY5.jpg

Picked up some over fenders to cover my buckling quarters and avoid fitting wide wheels with less camber.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/540/9G5sy1.jpg

Also grabbed a URAS style hood vent that will be going in shortly.
Unlike typical shitty installs where most people just rivet these to the hood I have a way of making it actually look like it's part of the hood without any sort of body work.
You'll see later.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/673/bDRlPj.jpg

Last thing until I can start the car up is make a new downpipe for the smaller turbo rear housing I picked up and re-degree my motor for the adjustable cams - something that was supposed to be done weeks ago but relying on someone who just complains about everything was a bad choice.

I have a schedule to meet!

That's all for now.

This is probably the most satisfied I've been with my engine bay in terms of placement and scheme of items.

Martino

Actually a little more hunting and I found this pic.

So typically people take the giant squared vent and just mount it ontop of their hood with rivets. Personally I'm not a fan of that.

So by making a tight template of the raised bits of the actual vent and mounting it underneath the hood, protruding outside, you can simulate a different look from it
- a better one in my opinion.

He has it still mounted with rivets (big silver ones) and I'm on the fence at this point if I want to go that route (small black ones) or find an alternative to mounting.

The differences in paint on the hood and vent still make it stand out more though.

Panelbond and maybe bondo to smooth things out a little more?

Dolph_KYAS13
05-19-2015, 07:59 PM
Bondo/ any sort of panelbond will most certainly crack. The fiberglass will obviously expand and contract at a different rate (even more so it being on the hood) which is not only subjected to engine heat but a huge amount of solar heat as well. Black rivets are your friend. :)

The hood I have isnt worth any body work. If I was doing it on my spare hood I'd properlly mold it in and have it painted. That's not the case however.

It's held in with small rivets nows. I just have to paint the rivets black.

I also couldn't go as low as I originally wanted because I forgot I had my aero catch there lol.
It's ok though, where I have it positioned it seems as though rad flow is directly where it should be in terms of driving.

Also didn't get a chance to clean everything up after I installed it. Was getting late.

Possibly in the future when I do this to my good hood I'll mount the aero catch somewhere else so I can run the vent in the proper area....or just buy a vented hood - whichever comes first.

So this weekend was an odd one. Got the car all buttoned up and put on insurance etc.

Drove it around a small bit.

Than this happened.

There's a bunch of money down the drain. I hit the limiter sliding around a corner and my rockers decided to end their life. After doing some research I've found that the AEM rev limiter his hard when running a lot of boost and should be switched to have fuel cut come before ignition cut.

So basically I'm now back on stock cams and cam gears. I've also converted the rockers to be dual guides vs. guides and shims. That should stop them from kicking sideways and off their position.

I drove the car to work today for the first time which was tense as hell haha. Going to go for a tune adjustment after work to make sure everything is running properlly now with stock cams and less lobe rollover.

Who's idea was it to build an SR again? I miss stock SR days....

Yea, hopefully with changing the rev limiter setup and the dual guide rockers now I shouldn't run into that issue again.

There's no time to waste! Gridlife is next weekend and I'm trying to prep for it but keep running into these little problems. Hopefully they've settled now.

So here's my latest dilemma.

Everything seesm to be running right and back together well.
I went for a tune-up last night and made a substantial amount of less power.

I made 340hp/330tq.

I've lost 120hp and 20ftlbs of torque. I've ruled out most of all things and have narrowed it down to no damage to the motor (compression tested and valves seem to be seating).

Could I really have lost all that power in the cams? Could stock cams with the combination of my setup really make that huge of a difference? Are they choking that badly and can't make much power?

Ultimately I'm still going to drive Gridlife and hope it doesn't blow up. At this point I'm far fed up and just want to have some fun. Shit if I get in a few laps and a party weekend I don't mind. I'm very fed up with this SR at this point.

Put some vinyl on for GridLife this weekend. It'll come off once the car is back and in street mode again.

Still have a couple supporting decals to put on. Will look good in some tandem team-mate runs.

Woah, Gridlife is 45min from me. Might have to come out and see this thing/meet you.

I take it you did a leakdown? that'll tell you for sure if the valves are seating.

Ignition cut should be softer than a fuel cut, you should be able to set how often it cuts the actual spark.

It was definitely a last minute addition. I wasn't even going to do the vinyl to be honest as time was crunching down and it was my last priority.

I decided to go with just white as ordering in chrome wasn't going to arrive in time and it's not necessarily cheap so I chose to opt out.

I actually just want to go with a simple chrome piece on the bottom on the door. Just our team name in it's cursive logo - nice and simple.

There's a ton of pictures popping up. I'll just end up dumping them here probably.

Event went great...kind of. I think the motor pooched itself on my last session.
Did a leakdown test last night and it seems like air is escaping past the piston. Either rings are gone or I melted a piston on cylinder 4.

Hopefully It's just that and not a spun bearing or anything. During the run everything seemed normal and numbers were optimal. I'm kind of leaning towards my oil pump failing..ugh.

After fixing the limiter issue, hard to soft now, and making the rockers dual guides everything seems to be holding up top.

I did a leakdown test and all signs are showing block issues.
I'm going to start pulling the motor out this week and see what went wrong.

The end goal once I decide to stay SR or not would be to do a VVL setup or just put in a 1j. We'll see how the budget holds up. For now a stock bottom end will probably just go on.

So I took the motor completely apart the past couple days. Found shavings EVERYWHERE.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/537/nN4BUR.jpg

It's definitely a spun bearing. I flipped the motor over and found that cylinder two rod had a TON of play and you can tell it was heat cycled as it's a little diss-coloured.

Going to take it to my engine builder later tonight and see what I can salvage and have him measure everything to see what is usable and what I have to replace (aside from the bearings).

My SR plagues continue....

So I haven't updated this in a while, but long story short the motor got put backtogether.

Made some power again, drifted a track day, put the car up for sale, parted it out.

Why?

Because there comes a point when you've reach the pinnacle of where you want to be with your car and realize it's time to move on. 7 years is a long time and I needed a change.

Enter, change:

It is quite the perk, only downside being is that It's only drivable maybe 5-6 months out of the year. Ontario uses too much salt to drive our cars in the winter without them rotting away.

Just a tease really.

Lets legalize cool cars before every other country can have them....but only let them drive them for half the year maybe, if they're lucky.
