just tinkering (what you think) swap

well Ive been looking high and low for a 91 coupe or 95 s14s ,and its getting very hard so I was thinking has anyone (I'd probally get flame for this)
Ive already got a Red Top and need a Frame. So my idea was..

swap a SR20DET into a 91 Fairlady Z non turbo?

I was searching Autotrader and the Zs value seems to be decreasing compare to the rising rates on the 240sx. and the drifting scene.

Would it even be worth it or sensiable to swap ? I was searching the web and havent came across with any info or anyone that has done it.

Ive seen RBs in Zs

Ive seen RBs in s13-14s

Ive seen SRs in Pickups

Ive Seen SRs in 350z


So any ideas? would the weight ratio be better for the Z? will the power plant move the heavy Z? at least it will already come with Z brakes and LSD , just would have to drop in the SR ,tranny , wired it up. I dunno just a thought , im very bored and fustrated cause I cant find a Decent S14 it my life depend on it in (FLORIDA) :confused:

If you think it would be a fun and interesting experiment go for it. But don't expect it to be uber fast or anything, but ya know what I'm really curious about is if you could put s13 pop ups on a Z32, beacause I've seen Z32 lights on S13s so i'm guessing it could be reversed maybe. (but that's just what I'd do if I was experimenting around :p)

Sure why not? It will be a few hundred pounds heavier, but will have much better suspension and chassis stiffness.

that is an old swap in japan. The ole' z32 chasis with the SR. I seen a white one i forget from what shop that uses it for wangan battling. They are wayyyy stronger and lightens up the chasis since te vg30dett is gone. More agile. Don't know what actually consists of doing the swap but i've seen an sr in almost everything you could think of.

go for it, there is a guy on NICO putting a CA in a Z32 TT because he was sick of working on the VG30DETT and wanted something lighter.

yea, sr in z32 would ROCK, atleast 100lb lighter IIRC, and SOOO much easyer to work on, and you can get an sr up to 350HP not to hard, and a Z32 that weights 100lb lighter (if not more) with20 more HP than stock could beat stock Z32s,and be overall cooler

A 300zx would be cool though, and it has some extra bonus stuff you would probably be buying at some point anyway, like 5-lug hubs and Z brakes and whatnot.

Get a Datsun 720 truck, put the SR in there, and lower it. I've seen a really kick ass autox tuck around here.

Or how about an S12 or a Z31 for your SR?

I do this too, btw. Buy parts first and then look for cars to put them on, haha. It's a pretty frustrating way to build cars, to say the least.

well I am great fan of the old school Datsuns , But im more of a modern guy, I search half the night for anyone with a Swap thats done it or any info.The reason im tinkerings is I got a Complete SR for $1,500 sitting here and There is a Z for $2000 , Ttops 2 seater, probally spend less than $3000 to have it running but without any info or motor mounts info ,im stuck.. and for the other guys said *dont give up* Ive been searching almost a YEAR .... when a coupe comes up a good deal or a S14 im always at work ...and usually the next day I call ...GONE or SOLD... so im really just out of luck. I was thinking about a PU Truck . BUT not really my choice , so I was leaning towards the Z now. theres just too many F/B sx out there. and being the last 10 years Ive modd a U13 KAT Altima, I thought its time for a 2 Door Sports Car , anyways S13-14 or Zs ...if anyone can find some more info I will be Greatly appreicated ...

that was out of an options 2 mag alooooong time ago. This pic i think was from djelectriques old site. Bunch fo these pics floating around in the web. They' ve been doing the z32/sr swap for a while now. I use to have the specs of the car but it was also used for wangan. They also did a vg30dett in a s13 body. Zenitani (the shop) built it doing 11's or 10's. Also made a wangan fighter out of it doin 200+ i got the old options tape of it.

SR swap into supras, or any rwd 4 door is cool. Someone swapped into an FC before, FCs are dirt cheap too and are everywhere (usually the 86-88 chassis).

SR swap into some old Inifiniti RWD sedan or even go VIP style on a old Lexus LS400 would be cool.

for the guys saying J30 .. not me ...ive spent the last 10 years in a 4 door Altima./(bluebird SSS wannbe) KAT .. boost was fun .,but its time for the real thing ..2 DR RWD .. I miss driving my Stang 5.0 before I became a Nissan guy. still searching High n Low for a DAMN coupe s13 or S14s ..if anything I found a Few Zs 5spd T Tops for $2,000 ..thats pretty decent considering its a Z .. got the upgrade brakes, plus the Vg motor is so hard to work on. Back when I was working for Nissan, I remember changing a Timming belt and that SHH took forever. So I guess dropping in a SR would be less hassle and more room to work on. the RB is great but I dont have RB money.
Anyways if you guys come across any info please Post. very considering this Swap as my last resort if I cant find a damn S14

Ghettokracker71 theres nothing wrong with F/B ...but there just so many running around my town and get tired of seeing them all banged up , im pretty sure whatever car I get will be clean and simple. BUT Ive always like the S14st , then the Coupe came to mind with a S15 front r32 tails and GP sports all around with a OEM s15 Front and Greddy lip . Since everyone seems to be Jacking up the price of S14s, its getting very hard to find a Decent one for a good price Considering 5spd and Sunroof. I remember my pops buying the 240sx 95 SE but complain later about the rear seats, then he decide to buy the Altima. I was 16 at the time and 10 years later... I worked up a KAT alty. But my true love with 240sx.
Even Driven a Few 200sx in England where my parents relocated. I wanted to shipped one back but too much trouble. So anyways to make it short I wanted a Coupe or s14 ..since niether seems to be around for the past 7 months ..I may want to lean towards a Z. the Z still holds that Upper sport car image.
its still a 2seater with Ttops(would love Targa top) comes around with Big Brakes , VLSD , and with a Lighter motor and smaller motor ..more room to work with and something differnt.. the drift scene is getting hugh but im not AIMin for that ... just pretty much a Tucking Z with a SR motor. *who could ask for more?* anyways imma get more info from the Zfever. good thing I have a few friends working at BYP and Z shop. Now i just gotta get some time off to lay down the Plan and maybe make this happen..

Z with Pop up S13 headlights? and R34 Stock Rims , Rear Wide body Fenders and nice clean kit? yea sounds nice so far... let see if I can make this happen.. Stay TUNED
