i painted my middle interior pieces cuz they were all crappy, then since my radio was broken i made this gauge panel, when i get a turbo timer or whatever i can put it in there too, it was really easy, and the interior pieces look like new

i took the pieces out and lightly sanded them with 400 grit paper just enough to remove the shiny finish on the pieces, then i primed them and painted them a metallic gray, then decided the metallic gray was too light of a color, then sprayed them with metallic black, however, the metallic black messed up the prior paint job and everything had to be sanded off and start over
then i just put two coats primer, and 3 coats semi gloss black, i didn't like that flat black look, so i chose semi gloss, it looks very comparable to the factory finish--the lesson i learned here is that although the primer says you can apply the topcoat right after, don't...let the primer dry completely, then sand it a little, then topcoat
the gauge panel is made out of home interior paneling, i just bought a piece from menards (it was like a 4 ft by 3 ft piece), cut a little square out to fit (it just fits snugly in the hole, it isn't glued or anything), and painted it with metallic grey, i didn't prime it because i wanted the texture of the paneling to set it apart a little from the other pieces, the paneling is nice to work with since its pretty thin and easy to cut

so I'm also in the middle of painting my interior pieces on my 96, and I'm having serious problems figuring out how to get the shifter boot detached from the plastic panel that holds it?? :wtf: the little spike attachment things underneath have the hold of god on this thing....any suggestions or tactics to getting them apart?
Thanks guys!
