Is there a way to tell if an LSD is a 1-way , 1.5 way, or 2-way just by looking at it? And is it possible to identify the manufacturer of the diff just by looking at it? i.e (kazz, nismo, osGiken, tomei, etc)

I have had this s13 diff housing for a little while which is said to have a Nismo 1-way diff in it. I did a little research and couldnt verify that Nismo even makes a 1-way diff for s13s. I've cracked the diff open but have no clue what to look for so I figured I'd post some pics on here to get some help from some of you who are more experienced with diffs

You can tell if a diff is 1/1.5/2 way by the ramps, there is a good pic here: Active Traction Service (http://www.ppi-ats.com/LSD/LSD_basics.html)

Normally you can see them ramps through those circular openings, I dont know why you can't on this particular one.

I recently had a mystery diff on my hands. I found that on the "face" of the diff, where the ring gear bolts up, different companies have very different and distinct designs.

Mine turned out to be a nismo 2-way and it had NO other markings or stamps.

Here's what i mean

Hell, look at the case design itself, no two manfg.s are going to have the same case design. And with Nismo the case is different from old vs new style differentials. Old Nismos have a cast case and the rounded shoulders are milled. Do enough research for pictures and you will eventually find out what you have.
