R32 GTR build starts on page 4
keep scrolling for the s13, it wont dissappoint, lots of pics

was debating on a "build" thread, but I'm bored as hell in my motel. I don't know where to begin so I'll start from the very beginning. I'll try to make it short and quick. Since the beginning was long ago and no pics because cameras used film back then lol. You young guys ask you parents about film, they probably have some next to the ice trays in the top of the closet lol. I'm going to try and do it as I remember, I'm sure i'll forget a ton of stuff.

1992-
Parents decided to ditch American cars as my grandpa, grandma and uncle were mazda fans (FB and FC rx-7's) and talked them into imports. So they bought a SE hatch from nissan and have been a nissan family since. I was 7 years old at this point in time. This was our family ride lol. Me and lil bro packed in the back. Eventually we got to big for that back seat so they went through numerous pathfinders, frontiers, z32 300zx, 350z, and g35's over the years. The 240 was paid off and two growing boys so they held on to for what came to be my first car.

2001-
Fast forward to when I turn 16, I finally get the choice between my moms 240sx or my grandmas FC rx-7 (big surprise to me) for my first car. I chose the 240 after being into these cars since early teens and playing the hell out gran turismo. It is really the only car I've ever been in to or care about in the states lol(still to this day). Anyways, after the car is officially mine I replaced the normal crap that goes bad. Injectors, cap, rotor, plugs, starter, belts etc. As a poor high school kid, I couldn't do much. I did a hotshot header, random technology hiflow cat, HKS universal muffler and custom 2.5 inch exhaust.

2002-03 ish
After saving up money on highschool income I finally bought my first real modification. Some tein type flex coilovers. Tein was the super hype back in those days. 240's were just getting popular. Most kids in highschool didn't even know wtf a 240 was. There were two others in school but they just drove them, didn't really know they had following. Hell I don't think many people rode on coilovers period back in those days, especially not when they were 17-18 years old lol. I also bought some cheap ass Tenzo wheels lol. They were teh sportmax of that time.

2003-04-05

Graduate highschool, get real job yada yada yada. This is when i start to move forward a little. While working a "real" job and still living in the parents basement as 18-19 year old kid. By this time my 240 had gotten beat and battered to hell. A few people ran into me, I crashed once, etc. Typical learning to drive BS. So I purchased a 1993 base model coupe and swapped the coils onto it.

http://i.imgur.com/b5ntQEV.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/tucxNTu.jpg

The only problem was, I hated coupes. Ugly piles of junk. The only way I could make this car work for me was to get silvia front. So I hit up pandagarage and ordered one asap.

also as any bored kid does, I started removing interior.

I figured I had a front end so I might as well focus on cleaning the car up and replacing worn our suspension pieces.

at this point I was ready for good wheels and ditch the 4 luggers. So I hit up panda garage again and got some r32 GTR wheels.

They were used and dirty.
http://i.imgur.com/thuq8S5.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/3lCN6Dw.jpg

So I put in work and freshened them up. (literally 24 hours of wet sanding/scuffing till my fingers bled)

My uncle did body work so he gave them a fresh respray.

got them mounted and balanced they look clean as new

I was still focused on cleaning the car up and making it look decent. The rear bumper was beat up, the trunk was warped, and I had a little mishap in the snowy weather on the way to work and smashed the rear quarter panel.

picked up silvia trunk lock from panda garage as well

Also my silvia hood was damaged in shipping. So I needed a new one. So I went out and ordered a JUN hood and went ahead and got the grill with it. Took 4 months to get as they are made upon order. The quality is amazing. I have never seen another one of either or even heard of another person owning either these products. Not sure how many are over here, the grill maybe, as it is quite a bit cheaper than the hood.

At this point I wanted an exhaust as the stock one was leaky and looked like ass. So I picked up a KTS titanium exhaust from SPL parts. Believe there are like 3 in the country and were discontinued before KTS really even got that popular. Not the lightest Ti exhaust, but it's still F'ing light. Spear chucking light.

http://i.imgur.com/umkeNMT.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/1I8cqFA.jpg

So as you can see I was accumulating quite the parts collection. My room was filling up fast.

http://i.imgur.com/Nsao2qg.jpg

So I had picked up a new daily driver and now I could start doing work to the car.

I decided to remove sound deadning. Again, dumbass teenager move. I got new OEM door pins and bushings also for the doors. They close so easy crisp. No force needed. Like a brand new car. Cleaned up the window frame work and door rods etc gave them a light coat of silver spray paint so they look new ish. Cleaned all the plastic little fittings etc.

I had also picked up an B&M short throw and decided to install it with Nismo black butt plug knob. I cleaned up the boot and ring and gave it a fresh coat of some silver spray paint to.

http://i.imgur.com/chNyo7J.jpg

So I went to the local tuning shop and what do I see in the display case? A greddy big brake upgrade that I had to have. They didn't cough it up at first, they wanted it for the shop car,but I kept showing interest. So finally I got it.

4 pot calipers, earls lines, 330mm two piece anodized duralumin rotors.

http://i.imgur.com/IR7f3wC.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/AfqHqsM.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/sQfeCRa.jpg

Now the main problem is that these brakes are to big for the r32 gtr wheels. Which sucks because they are one of my favorite but what can I do?
http://i.imgur.com/I53c44g.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/CVQNgJz.jpg

So I was forced to order my favorite wheels of all time. Super advan racing version 2. Lowest possible offset in a standard make. Keep in mind, I'm only 19/20 at this point in life (04/05). I couldn't quite afford custom offsets yet. These took 6 months to receive from Japan. Waiting was hard.

About this time is when shit slowed down. To a complete stop lol. I moved out of the parents house. Got my first apartment with a buddy and spent way to much time being a drunk ass 21 year old. Live in the suburbs of Saint Louis so there is plenty to do at that age. Wasting money was basically it. I could not afford to do the things I wanted. I am not the kind of person to cheap out on shit parts either just to get it finished. I knew I would never sell this car, so I just put my fun on hold and lived life for a bit. Had to come to terms with civilization and society. Early 20's are pivotal part of growing up in my opinion. You will make or break yourself. So basically 0 progress for YEARS. YEARS YEARS YEARS. It was 05/06 I was 20/21, had a ton of shit that was not very common at that time. Had a sweet ass build that I could not drive because it was not legal, pass safety, was to tore down. Car sat in my apartments garage.

Sad days.
http://i.imgur.com/rAI0vj3.jpg

So after years, one morning suffering a massive hangover, I'm sure there were other extracurricular activities mixed in, I had an epiphany. I threw up some really thick, black bile that just made me think "that shit ain't good". So at the ripe age of 24(2009) I quit drinking among other things and I go to pipe welding school. Best thing I have ever done. I catch on quick. Graduate and start traveling the country building it up. Now, while I make really really really good money. I also am never home. I travel (in bum fuck Iowa as I type this) so I can't work on it but I do get to order parts lol.

2011 to present day
So at the end of 2011 i finally start going forward again. Also my little brother graduates from Mizzou and decides he doesn't want his 240 anymore. His RUST FREE 98K MILES STRAIGHT BODY 1993 base model 240. He has a smashed in passenger fender but that doesn't bother me all he has is an apex N1 single.

SOOOOOOO.......I do this to my car and sell it for 100 dollars.

http://i.imgur.com/ApSCjLO.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/BoF2KDE.jpg

I take his car and begin the process over(full interior this time lol). I can't lower the front to much as the fender is smashed in the tire sticks out about 2-3 inches. BUT I finally get to drive a 240 again.

http://i.imgur.com/Nu2zqb1.jpg

So here I sit with full suspension, mishimoto radiator, mishimoto electric fans, apex exhaust, full brakes and wheels installed. I decide I don't want to go KA anymore and would rather do a RB swap since I have good funds rolling in.

http://i.imgur.com/pjvJhOk.jpg

This is also where I just go hog wild and get shit that I want. A lot of you might recognize these parts because some of you guys were the previous owners.

I begin to acquire full silvia K's Aero.

at this stage I'm just looking for swap items and random tid bits. Random stuff that pops up for sale or that I find in yahoo japan.

Lots more to come. Hopefully all of you guys that parted your cars will be happy with where some of your parts went. I thank you guys.

ok my foreman didn't show up today so we only worked a 10 hour shift. Apparently the moonshine beat him. Anyways, when sr20drifter parted his car I bought a lot of his parts. The DCC, ARC sway bars, vs-xx, and I think the broadfield defi vsdx heads up display. I think that is all can't really remember.

I guess I never took pictures of it, but here is the famous one that we all know
http://i.imgur.com/MFEWUbP.jpg

Since I was going with the rb I knew I would need to get some gauges to help monitor. I went with the Defi Advanced BF boost, oil pressure and EGT. With the link box of course. I got a broadfield vent cluster to house them in.

Always browsing for the rare little tidbits, I am a nismo freak, so I like to get what I can. I found an old school Nismo willans two inch racing harness with the camlock design instead of the buckle. Also the appropriate shoulder pads. Seat belt was in 9/10 condition and the pads were brand new. I also got a super rare old school nismo yellow fashion lighter.

So around this time I drop the car off at a local shop to do my swap. Adrenaline motorsports, I have known the owners for I guess a decade now. They helped me get some of my harder parts to get back in the day. Anyways, since I am away from home about 10 months out of the year on average, It was time to get some progress. I am trying to keep a street car theme. Nothing to wild and crazy. Just clean, quality and not messy I guess. So I had some stuff relocated/removed, fixed some trouble areas, stitch welds, and some holes filled etc. The car will be super black so I got the bay painted black as well. Wasn't home to capture pics of that.

http://i.imgur.com/9DgspQY.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/CZXF44T.jpg

with that going on I was always on the prowl for parts. I knew I would need a clutch and limited slip with that RB in there. Given their reputable history, OS giken and nissan go together like cocaine and waffles.

Also nismo pivot and clutch line.
http://i.imgur.com/FyHv3Ft.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/lppEvy6.jpg

Also picked up some SPL aluminum diff bushings, no pics either.

So with that out of the way, I now needed some kind of tuning device. So I went with Apex power FC/commander
http://i.imgur.com/9egR7i0.jpg

Lets see, at this point my motor was pretty squared away with having what I needed to do a clean swap. I wasn't planning on using the Full-race/gt35r until later so it was just stock mani and turbo for the time being.

So I was back to just random stuff. Late night yahoo japan shopping etc. Came across this. I have wanted these for a loooong time. Never seen them sold ever. Some kid on here actually linked one up from up garage. I immediately contacted jesse streeter and bought it. Old school nismo recaro recliner SRII. These were put in the nismo LMGT r33 road car. (le mans gt, look it up) and a catalogue item back in the day.

Yea back In the teenage and early 20s I was only making 12 an hour. I have always been good at saving and budgeting. I never use credit. If I can't buy it cash I don't deserve it. But growing up seeing how all the japan tuners and what not built these cars made an impression on me mentally. That was how things were supposed to be built in my head. Option and downloading old japan videos etc. Now the american import scene was a big joke back then. Hondas, eclipses etc. All waste of time in my eyes. Our style was cheap and gaudy looking to me. Not even close to the japan level. I would go to major car shows and not be impressed. Maybe 2 or 3 cars were done right imo. I work for my stuff. Work overtime when ever offered. It was just how I am. I wanted the best I could afford because I worked hard for that money. Why cheap myself out. I got what I wanted or nothing at all. Interestingly that car was my motivation to do good. Work hard and want to be successful. I knew what I wanted and that it wouldn't be cheap. Takes strong mental discipline and many sacrifices. There is a level of sentimental value now.

Yea I guess, been in hiding for a decade lol, since the car is actually driveable and licensed/insured. I probably need better insurance but how to do you insure discontinued status lol. It is in a complete like form but is never actually "completed". Always something.

lol that is funny as shit. My parts have served more as decoration than actual parts. I like to think that I bought a pile of parts and made a car out of them. Yea I remember, ka-t stuff in one corner and stack of advans in the other. I also remember some woman putting her beer can in the center hole of one of the advans using it as a coaster. It was one of those times in my head where the record scratched and time stopped and wayne brady almost had to choke a bitch.

Why'd you trash the last shell? To me a day or three to put my car together and have TWO (and one to drive while the other's undergoing surgery) sounds a lot better than having one, and $100. And any parts you wanted, you could have just swapped, and never not had two complete cars.

Just my two cents. Nevertheless, interesting thread and nice quality, will follow.

I don't need a second 240. I have had numerous 240's. Especially one that is a pile of worthlessness. It was not even close to being complete there. Did not run and half the suspension was missing, body panels, interior all gone. It was just enough to roll. A tin can on wheels. I have a daily driver. I live on the road man, motels across the country. I stay working and making money. That car was beat and not worth the time or effort to get back into running condition. It was simply not needed and scrap at best. I actually had some people refuse to take it because it would cost them more in gas than a scrap yard would give them lol. It was only good for a motor and even that was high mileage and burning oil. It would be for someone wanting a project. Why would I do two projects of the same car? Maybe a hatch but not two coupes. Plus who said I trashed it? Some kids came and bought it. It could have 20k in it by now, who knows. I stripped all my stuff off that I had/wanted and sold it as is. Not to mention, I left for Arkansas the very next day to build a steel mill.

ok so continuing from updated 3rd post. Internet is back at full strength.

After getting that seat I kind of started keeping a lookout for interior items to clean up the interior and am always looking for random parts. Never know when something will pop up.

I came across these SA3R for a super cheap price. Needed some beater wheels that fit over the brakes.

I believe this was when I came home for a day between jobs before I jetted off to Texas for a few weeks to do a turnaround in an oil refinery. Saw some progress. This was mock up stuff. Testing fitment, piping etc. Nothing is final here. But the bay is painted etc. Ugly ass BMC and power steering reservoir. Those will be addressed lol.

I wasn't really "pleased" with the suspension. It wasn't complete. It had nice parts with old stock worn looking parts. So I finished off the rest with nismo FLCA, RLCA, spl tie rod ends and z32 tie rods. Got some new OEM power steering rack boots to.

So things were coming along. I was getting closer to the end checking things off the list that needed replacing etc. After spending 4 months in Montana doing a oil refinery up there, I hit a few national parks on the way home. Yellowstone, the badlands, mount rushmore and the wind caves. It's good to see the country while I'm out working. One of the things I love about my job. It's hard being away and working 6-7 days a week all the time. But the money is to good to pass up. So I took a few weeks off to relax. Visit with family, see parts, progress, take care of crap.

That is awesome man. I have been contemplating trying to get a 6 pot setup and move these to the rears. Or just go full endless kit. But this will do for now. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Yea man! You can always go 6-pot in the future.

haha I know, I figure as long as I buy cars that use 17/18's I'll be ok. I just like wheels. I'm very particular though. I only like certain wheels and that is it lol. Mostly what advan has to offer. They just seem to stand out amongst the rest to me. I still want some old school panasport g7 c5c2 and some bee*R B5. I'll get around to it someday. If advan comes out with a super advan racing version 3, I will order as soon as I find out. If they look good. The RG1 i had to buy because they are my favorite one piece wheel. Blitz type 03 i've liked since way back in the day, coolest blitz wheel imo. The Z1 come in a close second. I don't like volk to much. None of their designs appeal to me. I do like the te37 SL though.

here is a shot of the car up and running. The silvia front is on also. The motor isn't 100% done yet but it runs and can drive. Still need to do catch can. Not sure I i like the gold powder coat valve covers. I couldn't really decide what color to go with. I like black but thought it may be to much black in the bay. I went with gold as the brake calipers are gold.

i know I have forgot a lot of stuff lol. So I will just go ahead and give a rundown of everything. 90% complete as of now. All that is left is body work (this winter) and I will install all of my interior after the body work is done. Right now it's just stock with the defi heads up, defi gauges and tomei wheel and quick release. Also giving the motor an overhaul to let that gt35r breathe and have piece of mind on the bottom end lol. It runs on stock turbo for now. When I return home from Iowa I should have some more parts waiting for me. I'm thinking I will get a layoff next week sometime. This job is about over.

So I realize this thread is somewhat sloppy and kind of hard to get a sense of what the car will be. For all the stuff I missed with pics etc. Here goes the list. Some parts that have been shown in pics are not on the list because I will not be using them on this build. Remember I physically own all this stuff. I have been kind of holding out for when it gets painted etc. There are a few areas I have still not decided on either like if I will want a form of radio/speakers and If I want to do a back half cage or just harness bar etc. I plan on doing some track days with it but I want the street car theme also. I am leaning towards back half cage.

It is like a restoration/build up to me. I want it to be quality, clean, and still perform. Nothing to outlandish/bandwagony or gaudy. Like extreme negative camber that looks like your car is trying out for back to future 4, BN blister kits or rocket bunny etc. Can't stand that stuff lol. Anyways....I would say a good 90% is installed. Some stuff is waiting on other stuff just so things don't get ruined etc. Not to mention I'm indecisive.

GTR garage is awesome. From actual Japan it took about 3 days. Overall probably a week to week and half. It will depend on how fast the seller of the auction packages and sends them to Kunio. I have been getting all of my japan packages within 3 days lately. I guess Chicago customs is getting used to my address lol. They used to hold my stuff for weeks sometimes.

Hey man,.. you ever need anyone to break this in and put some miles while you're out.......... I got you!

No one will have a key lol. The steering wheel will be locked up. I'm hoping broadfield can hook me up with lazer eye scan, voice activated, fingerprinted, sperm sample security system. Maybe he will start a group buy lol. I forgot the mote with alligators.

Or maybe the Dave Chappelle security system. Spread your cheeks and lift your sac!

After Kewilso3 posted pics of his ride. It just reminded me how much I want these wheels but can never really find them in good shape. I have tried to buy off quite a few people that owned them with no avail. I don't blame them for not selling. I like the gold ones. Usually find them painted or powder coated some ugly color or they are just beat up and missing center caps. So Kunio at GTR garage comes through for me again. I found a super super clean set on yahoo japan but the offsets were a bit meh. But they were decent 18x8.5 +38 and 18x9.5 +35. So I have been talking to wheel flip about getting some deeper offsets. They said I could make them 18x9 +28 and 18x9.5 +25. The wheel list got one more check off the ol list. Thank god.

Dude- We need to go for a cruise!.

for sure! my schedule is just crazy. Not sure when I'll be home next and hopefully I will have the car painted/caged this winter. Car is down at the moment getting headwork/rebuild. Waiting on parts still. I'm just going to shoot for next year being the year it is basically done to a enjoyable complete stage. Since I think I will be gone the rest of this year. Still want to build the bottom end. Not sure if rb28/30 or just keeping it simple with basic rebuild. Ah well, to far into the future to worry about.

Holy shit your build is amazing bro, definitely legit any way you slice it. Keep up the sweet updates !

Thanks! lots of time and effort. When this is the only car you really care about it's easy to spend the money on it. The only other car I would do like this is an FD rx-7, but you can't afford that when your 16 lol. So 240 it was. I'll keep them coming. I still have parts that I haven't seen yet lol. One bad thing about working on the road. Pay is good, never home. So you have to make arrangements for things. So when I go home next, I'll have a few more pics.

Yea the 90's were great. Nice styling of cars and musically. I don't even want to add up what I have spent. I can't even really put a price on it I don't think. Maybe just in parts. But it does not matter to me as this is my hobby. I kind of can't wait to build a new project. Something new and a little more high class of car from the beginning. The new Z car rumored has sparked a little interest. If not I will just save until I get a GTR. But this will be in 3-5 years I think. Early 30's. Have other things I would like to get started and setup before I do another car. But I know your feeling. Those thoughts go through my head from time to time. I think I do ok with mixing responsible purchase with toy purchases. I paid off 24k in loans over the past two years also lol. I often think what I "could" have done with that money instead. :yum: ppg dog box.

haha, I may sell a few parts here and there. I like to keep things and try to put them in other builds. It's a hobby and a collection. Hard to explain really, I'm a hoarder of car parts I guess.

Lol wheels will be hard to pry from me. I'm very particular when it comes to wheels. I have thought about selling some. But then I'm like "why?". They're bought and paid for. The only thing they do is take up space. But nice wheels look good so they do serve a purpose lol. Some people like finely hand crafted statues, I like stacks of nice wheels haha.

Sorry for the late replies, have been down in New Orleans/Baton Rouge visiting a friend. Bourbon street is nuts lol. Any ways, my wheels came in today. My dad sent me a pic and holy hell they look brand new. Almost don't want to send them to wheel flip to keep originality lol. Oh well got to pay to play. Hopefully I get to go home before I find another job to go to so I can take some pics.

They are pricey little bastards. I almost had a brand new in box one. But it ended up going for 210 dollars before shipping lol. Packaging was mint!

Oh yea! it will get driven when the head is done. Hopefully everything goes smooth. I'm going to shoot for 300-350 whp until I do the bottom end. Want to play it safe on the stock bottom end. I'm interested in seeing what kind of spool/response I get with the twinscroll t4. Intercooler piping isn't very long either. Either way it should be fun.

woops missed this. Yea I couldn't pass the white coupe up. It was in overall great condition. But it will soon be painted black as well. Nissan super black. I have a thing for black cars. Nismo key pops up from time to time. They range in price. Expect to spend at least 100. I have seen them on yahoo japan for like 2-300 hundred lol.

Ok finally home from a little 2 week New Orleans/Baton Rouge vacation. Got to see the wheels for first time. These things are amazing. Quite possible the nicest wheels I have ever seen. I give them a 9.5 out of 10. You can barely tell they have been used. I don't know if its the gold or what, but in the sun they glow kind of like the metallic blue super advans. Just looking at these wheels you can tell they are quality lol. Wish my s4 took a little bit better photos. For some reason they just don't look clear to me, kind of hazy.

Again, GTR garage did amazing work. Much props to Kunio and his team. I have got two sets of wheels from them within the past months.

not much of an update as far as the car in general goes. Just got a few new parts in. Was in Indianapolis building a steel mill, then went to Great Falls Montana for a few months changing a hydro electric damn turbine from air cooled to water cooled, then left their and went straight to North Dakota and did a boiler repair on coal burning power plant. what do you do may i ask to have such expensive parts and have a storage unit and not a garage?

BossHogg
05-16-2014, 10:06 PM
pipe weld. I travel constantly. I've had that storage unit for years. Ever since I moved out of my apartment and went to welding school. Needed a place to keep the car and all my shit while I was gone. Pipe welding changed my life. You make money real fast. But its kind of hard to make any sort of plans as you never know when you might be out of work for a while. So saving is a must anyways. For instance last month alone I made 17k. 4,300 a week. The key is trying to stay busy all year. I shoot for only 2 months a year of not working (by choice). Mainly the holiday months at the end of the year. It's cold as hell anyways lol no one likes working outside in the cold haha.

I have been tossing around the idea of buying a gigantic garage and just putting a living quarters in it. They are big enough to put a second level in. Basically the playboy mansion of garages. I will need a place anyways to keep more cars. Nismo r32 GTR is high on the list right now. I will have one, so a bigger place is mandatory. My parents want me to buy a house for investment reasons. But honestly its a waste of time and money at this point. Its pointless bills that take away from saving that money and just buying a place cash. I'll never be their anyways. I play it by ear. Right now I'm in hardcore save mode. The goal is to hit 6 figs in the bank before any big purchases. Just a personal goal. I could buy the GTR now, but have no place to keep it. So I just want to do it all at once. I figure I can take a break from buying car shit if in the long run I get a nismo r32. Once the 240 is done, there really isn't shit else for me to buy except those two things. The only thing's I will buy are those really rare finds on yahoo japan etc. Shit that is those "now or never" kind of opportunities. Nismo r32 is my dream car basically.

If I would of known about this trade when I was 18, I would be so fucking loaded right now it makes me sick even thinking about it. 12k and 5 months for welding school, you're in the land of 6 figs a year. No waste of time 4-6 year college with tens...if not hundreds of thousands of debt. Just go straight into the field and start banking fat cash. Not to mention you build things that run the modern day world. Refineries, power plants, pipe lines, pharmaceutical, food processing plants, ethanol plants etc. The list goes on. Very interesting things that will blow your mind when you see this stuff internally. Crazy shit. You really get to see the extent of man made engineering. Without us, you have nothing. No power, gas, pharmaceuticals, food processing etc. It's a pretty rewarding job. Best thing I've ever done for myself.

oh yea, that is the plan. Just trying to figure out how I want to do it. I've always wanted a mines tuned car. I really would only like to put Nismo and Mines products on it besides what is already existing on the car. I have seats, steering wheel, fashion lighter and GTR version advan rg's to put on it already. Not sure what I will do with the te37's. Taking some parts off the 240 and putting them in a real car lol. I could technically put the full race turbo mani on it also. But I want to keep it twins. Trying to decide what turbo's I want. Just want super super super responsive car that can pull to 8-9k-ish. I'm thinking 500 hp MAX. With relatively stock looking engine bay and appearance over all. Only thing I can see doing to it cosmetically is making a Nismo r32 replica.

Sick.

Oh there will be more. That was just the first purchase so far. Was a good price. Am only shooting for 450 ish hp. Going to piece together my parts and most likely have garage defend build and tune it. Going to wait till the new year to go Gung ho on it. I figure I have 6 month's to wait, so no rush. If I need more time I'll pay a storage fee. My job is unpredictable. I could potentially make 100k by then if not more. So I like to play by ear. I for sure want a solid and responsive engine built. That is the main goal before it leaves japan. Little knick knack stuff I can take care of in the states when i receive it. But while it's their, I'll let the pros do the heavy mechanical work. Just want a nice street car that can hit the track when I want it to. That is actually one of the reasons I bought this one over an already tuned one. It's virtually stock and very well kept. Makes me feel like it's my car and not someones previous toy. But I am shooting for mines turbo outlets and titanium front pipe. Still not sure if I want the mines cat back though. I can't decide if I want a loud throaty exhaust to let that RB scream. I'll keep the Fujitsubo for now. I mean i can change an exhaust myself lol. Another thing I'm not sure on is if I change the exhaust over their, will i be able to get the Fujitsubo here. I'd like to have two exhausts a loud one and quiet one if needed. I have a nice list of goods I want. For the most part nismo'd out
Hoping work stays strong so I can keep my plans.

Nah the rb25 is ripped apart. The plan was to send it down to Raw Brokerage sometime in 2015 (when work allows) for full RB30 build and tune. But then I bought the GTR. So all of my free money will go towards that car for the next 6 months so it can be tuned/built in japan, until it is shipped in June. So basically the 240 is on hold.....yet again. Probably just make it more 1/4 mile oriented now. I haven't even seen it in 5 months lol. I'll probably go over there tomorrow and look at it while I gather my oil change goods for my cummins before I head out again for who knows how long.

The Nismo God ! With the R32 in the picture now, what's gonna happen with the S13?

just make it more quarter mile highway pulls car. It would have to much hp to enjoy in any other form. For the pesky vette and v8 cars.

Why not just get the S13 into a drivable state, so you can enjoy it? Having a 1/4 oriented S13 just doesn't sound very usable, or fun.

it will be fun. What's not fun about aa cammed out rb25 bumping 550-600 hp? An s chasis that powerful isnt very street friendly anyways. It will never be as fun as gtr in a street environment with twisties. The gtr was built to race period. The s13 is a poor platform for road race. Going to have a road car and straight line car. Both will be streetable though. It's no fun if they aren't able to be driven on public roads. Not to mention the only thing the 240 needs is a block. The head is built but I don't think a build head and stock block would be very fun. Especially with that big gt35r. Stock block would hold it back. The 240 would just take to much funds from the gtr right now. GTR is main focus. I am away from home all the time anyways. So it's not like I'd be able to really enjoy it and it's winter time. 6 month's will go by quick.

well hope nobody in customs catches wind the engine was built (engine broken open with new internals), other wise its not legal for importation. If the engine is built/rebuilt it must conform to new EPA standards.

not worried about it. Tuned gtr's get imported all the time. If I do open the engine up it would be for drop in cams. Staying at 450 ish so I don't have to worry about internals. If anything I'd just do an overhaul/refresh.

Break out the welder and give us some intercooler piping, exhaust, and intake manifold fabrication work to drool over!!!

heh I've never really tried it. Different process with pulse tig etc. I don't use a foot pedal. I'm used to pipe code. Open root x-ray welds.

I don't know you, but i feel like we may cross paths if we haven't already. What company do you work for? Is it based in STL or you on your own now?

I've always been on my own. Never worked in st.louis. I'm what's called a road whore. Just travel constantly. Been in colorado the last 5 months building a compressor station. I started my own rig truck so I can get that extra tax free money. Going to try and get on some pipelines to. Basically just doing downhill stick right now. 100% X ray to B31.3 code.

My god you don't fuck around

congrats on the purchase I'll be following this :)

Thank you. It's more than a hobby to me. Hopefully I can fulfill my plans.
That is very very nice!!

Haha thanks

I need that qtr panel you had from years ago.

Yea it's a nice piece to have. I like to keep stock body panels though. Just in case the worst happens. Think I have like 6 doors a few pop up headlight hoods, Silvia Q bumper, aero bumper, stock bumpers, window glass, extra uncracked dash etc. Lots o shit lol.

Okay, good to know. I am a ME and work mostly in the process and food/beverage industry. Do you have a card or something you could PM me? I travel a lot as well and could use a good welder. Some of the places I see have NO maintenance infrastructure so they are not able to weld on their own.

don't really have a card or anything. It all depends on the money for me. Like right now I'm at 53 an hour which only 36 is taxed and $85 a day for per diem tax free. This is a low paying rig job to. But I kind of just broke out with my truck so it was more for the experience. But still 5k a week(before taxes) is more than enough for me. I'm not greedy. Hoping to jump to higher paying job soon. Starting a rig truck isn't cheap though lol.

Haven't done any actual pipe line jobs yet. That's a different animal. Got to shit and get. But that's the goal. Pipeline code is 1104 which is actually pretty damn easy. You just have to be fast and hot on the line. They will not hesitate to send you on your way. I've done power plants, steel mills, lysine plants, oil refineries, compressor stations. Tig and stick. Stainless, carbon, 9% chrome, and dabbled with monel.

yea I was in heavy debate over the complete mines setup or midori setup as well. I've always wanted mines and everyone says that the equal length front pipe sounds the best of all. But for some reason I went with the midori. I've heard other vendors say the quality of midori was a little better. But that is just coming down to having say something over the other for comparison reasons. Obviously you can't go wrong with either one. I also kind of like the exclusiveness of the midori setup. I'm 99% positive I may have the only full titanium setup in the states thus far. But then again, the complete setup with shipping cost more than probably 90% of the "build threads" here lol. I was going to wait until I get some turbos to mount up all the exhaust stuff since its basically an engine out task. But at the same time, if we gotta take the engine out, I want to have a bunch of shit done(clutch, oil system issues, possible front diff) so I can get it all in one clean sweep. I'm working on that now. The car has been sitting at my house for a month and I still haven't even seen it lol. I'm hoping to get laid off this week so I can finally go home and tinker on it.

Finally. I see this thing. After 15 hours of driving. Bought it in December, its now September. I made it......and I am blown the fuck away. This car is awesome. Its super clean. Like brand new clean. It pulls hard. It goes where you point it. It turns heads. It will get you mass amount of bro dudes wanting to tell you how alpha male you are. You will get 0 pussy in this car because to much dicks are in the way. Every ricer feels the sudden urge to rev his crappy 4 cyl at you. Every 1988 camaro feels the need to let that shitty v8 exhaust breathe. Take it easy red dragon, no body is impressed. Besides, I smell oil burning.

You're life is not complete without one of these. I promise you. I can see why this car spanked up everything in the late 80's and early 90's. It is more than I thought it would be. It's just fun. It feels relatively new. Since this one is so damn well maintained, it literally feels brand new. I don't even want to mod it lol. It's just perfect. I believe I bought the kouki r32 steering boss. I have a zenki car. It fits no problem, just the damn steering wheel ring holes are off. So I will probably have to get a custom piece made and drilled. Also I don't think the horn will work as there are 3 connections, but my wheel and horn only have 1. I dunno, I have to look into it more.

now, after all the baller parts have been acquired and put in a storage unit, you now have an equally cool car to put all the shit on haha.

Stoked for you on the car. I like that so far, and I dont' think/hope you dont, you're not going overboard with it. Simple, oem style and clean. Everything so far is tasteful and nothing too insane. just good touches here and there. I definitely think its the small touches in cars like these that contribute overall. Have fun!

BossHogg
09-23-2015, 10:51 PM
Yea that is pretty much it as far as cosmetics go for me. I did take off the rear wiper. Once I get some plugs for the rear glass I will fully take it all out. The only thing I will probably get sometime in the future is a front under tray/diffuser what ever you want to call them.

I could have the full genuine nismo get up, but I don't really like it. As crazy as that sounds. I just don't think its all that necessary. The skirts are somewhat cool, they look more aggressive. The rear spats I can't stand. The little mini "chibi" spoiler does nothing. It actually adds drag to the car. The front bumper ducts are obviously functional, but for some reason I don't like the look anymore. Maybe for a track/time attack car. But after seeing this in person, the bone stock look is just perfect to me.

Yea I already fixed that. The damn grill was super loose, almost fell out. The cooling panel helped hold it down lol. But I have zip tied it on now. It's way more snug. No body can just come up and yank it off and steal it. Those plastic clips are kind of screwy.

Did you lift the rear car by the chassis rails? Big no no if so. Pretty much 95% of the GTRs have crushed chassis rails from the parking lift garages in Japan.

BossHogg
09-28-2015, 09:57 AM
I didn't use the jack on the actual rails. We put the stands at the end of the rails where they are more beefy. Driver side then passenger side. It's sitting on 4 stands here. These rails are pretty good. No area's are crushed. We just put the stands where we could see previous "used" spots.

Thank you. That is one of the reasons I bought it. Plus it wasn't already tuned to the hilt like a lot of them. I think you will be able to find one. I honestly don't think the r33 will have a high markup compared to r32. R33 are naturally pretty cheap because they are kind of the ugly duckling of the r32 and r34. Despite probably being the best performer of them all. They got the active LSD and knocked 22 seconds of the r32 lap time at nurburg. An r34 is just a slightly refined r33. From all the reviews I read, everyone who owned a r33 said the 34 wasn't the same feel as a 33. But either way, if you own any GTR you will be happy lol. Although I am starting to get used to stock power.....uh oh lol.

The price markup on the R32s is ridiculous but what can you do, they're just now federally legal here. And I have been finding R33s GTRs for $10k, thats less than what I paid for my S13 Silvia here in the US lol. No one likes them because they're "fat" but we shall see what happens. yea I really like the direction the original owner took with the car. Suspension and bracing and let it be. The car is super fun. Very nimble feeling. The funny thing is, I like the stock airbox best. It is more than capable of 500+ hp. I think the pods look dumb to be honest.

Another update lol. Exhaust time! Also did a slight fender roll. I mean more like a "bend back a little", kept the plastic guards also. It's perfect now, no rubbing at all. We found out that the turbo dumps are way more involved than was planned. So we just threw the front pipes on back on. The sound is fucking incredible. I cant even explain it. It's like what you see on youtube. Just pure badass. Like so badass that badass is almost not badass enough to describe the badassness. Any ways, for a 5k (including shipping) exhaust, it fit like a glove. As it should. It looks amazing. It really opens up the exhaust and you can hear those factory turbos really spool up now.(whoa pre work out just kicked in lol....damn it man). Any ways, yea, shit sounds good. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like with the Midori dump tubes should open it up even more. I can feel a noticeable difference in the power. Possibly quicker spool up time. The mid range throws you back a little more. Front pipes definitely make the car a different beast. BTW, I am working on a video to get a good exhaust tone clip. Just bare with me.

This car is becoming something I fucking dreamed of since I was a damn pre teen. It's really weird to see this shit in front of my eyes in real life, knowing that its mine and not some video game. It's a great fucking feeling.

Plus I could better use that money on things I actually need. I think I have the GTR close to being as far as I want to go for now. Have a few more things on the way that are just basic piece of mind items. I think the car is fun enough at its current stage. So I will focus on the 240 again. added a few more touches today. I tried out my other nismo blue letter steering wheel and apparently it lined right up with the hub. Not sure if there is a bunch of different combinations of wheels and hubs or what. But now that I got the hub on, my hicas light comes on after a few minutes of driving. I'm just guessing it has to do with the wheel not being lined up perfectly on the right spline? Not sure, the wheel is straight when im driving. I will be deleting hicas eventually, but the light is just annoying lol. Probably have to take the bulb out like so many other people do. Would like to fix it proper if I can.

Anyways on to the pics.
Interior is starting to look nismo'd out. Have a gauge pod cluster on the way so I will be able to fit the 3 nismo gauges when it arrives. Should be looking pretty badass 1990's nismo here shortly. I have a few more little upgrades on the way to. Nothing crazy, but will help over all performance.

Yea i'm not sure on my alignment specs. I'm sure its probably a stockish alignment setting. I to hate the the camber BS. I think you will be fine honestly. From what I hear 18x10 +20 doesn't really rub. Your 1/4 inch less and 1 more mm of offset. But you got some balloon rubber. Most people seem to go 35 series, either 265 or 255. So I'm not sure how the tire will come into effect.

Rare gem here. Nismo carbon fiber radiator side shrouds. These were N1 option I believe. Very nice touch. High end quality, you can feel the difference just with the touch. Very light, very strong. Not like your typical shitty seibon hood or something.

Got some random stuff.

Here is video of the exhaust. It's just cell phone footage, but if you have sub and speakers on your computer it does a decent job of getting the tone. Sounds better under load....like every car lol. But you can tell its very quiet and modest for 3.5 inch decat setup.

Got my 60mm Nismo boost gauge in today. Not sure where I want to put this. I only bought it because it was real clean, looks brand new to be honest. But I was just going to let the boost controller be my boost gauge. But since all these gauges light up exactly like my cluster and din, I figured I'd just go for it. I was thinking maybe put this boost gauge on steering column? I was going to put it in the driver vent since it's a perfect circle and apparently fits a 60mm gauge perfectly. But I found out that little vent does wonders for heating up your hand when its cold out lol. So I don't want to put it there anymore.

If you can't find a spot to put your boost gauge, I'll take it off your hands lol Can't wait to see what happens with your s13 build.
