In case you do not know what a Joe Hauler is ^.
These mount to a Class III hitch, which the S13 doesn't have available. My track is 10 miles from my house and I am looking to downsize to 1 vehicle, being the S13 coupe. I'm shifting to a 1 car garage, so having space to put a trailer doesn't work anymore. I'm attempting to consolidate everything, the track has a gravel parking lot, so the truck if I can get rid of it isn't needed.

My thought process here- if I take off the rear crashbar, could I over build a joe hauler type carrier, to mount in to the slots where the rear crash bar normally goes. Then run another brace underneath to mount where the normal Class I hitch would lock in to place? Basically needs to hold 250lbs max, all the other gear can go in the trunk.

thanks

Bear in mind the torque that 250lbs a few feet out will put on the mounting points. Thousands of foot pounds, on a bump or something.

There was a guy on here (and I think I've seen others) who made his license plate flip up, and welded in/reinforced a hitch mount. With a trailer, you can (hopefully) put most of the weight on the ground. And even though it should be easier on the car, it would also greatly increase your hauling capacity.

I was hoping to avoid a trailer for this so I don't have storage issues, plus registration on the trailer.

I do understand what you are saying about the mounting points. The idea popped in my head when I was standing on my rear crash bar the other night to reach to a shelf above my car. It didn't seem to have any issues with a 185lbs standing on it.

Go buy a U Haul type tow setup.

That is a class I tow hitch, they have 150lb tongue capacity. I need a class III to cover my 250lbs tongue weight. I went through that thread before posting as it was the only decent one about towing.

they don't make anything other than class I for S13, as they don't want you towing a 7,000lb vehicle/boat with the car.

That was just for reference. Honestly just go pick up a bi-mart trailer that folds in half and push up against a wall. Not quite sure how your insurance would feel about something you made if it breaks and destroys something. Plus trailer registration is only 20 bucks a year, you will save way more than that not having a truck.
