Got my new coilovers

Kei Office XT-a. These are their new line. Inverted shock design, 16 way adjustable and separate height and preload adjustments. Camber plates are included and helper spring in the rear. Spring rates are 9/8. Set up with no preload for now with ~2.5" drop for now. These are just like their d1 spec model except that they have different valve settings and they have a rubber bushing instead of a solid metal one at the top of the shocks. These are some high end coilovers. I got them for $1700 with 2500 miles on them. The car really feels like it can harness the power of the sr soooo much better now! They ride very nicely and really tighten up the car. Even with no preload there is no roll. Props to James D. at Driftspeed.com for hooking it up!

They came with pillowball mounts. They have 2500 miles and were on an AUTOMATIC bone stock s14. I saw them on the car before I bought them. The rubber bushing is on the spring seat. The d1 spec has a metal bushing on the spring seat so it's really harsh. Good luck finding kei office coilovers for $800.

1. for anybody who is comparing the XR price and the price Norm payed for the XT-a.
in case you didnt know, XT-a are higher up on the kei office lineup. that is just FYI.
b. Norm is one of the nicest people around. i am suprised at his responses on this thread since he doesnt speak or act like this in real life. so if you egt a chance to meet him, you should fee llucky.
3. for those of you that think Norm is a noob or some random kid, you couldn't be more wrong. i haven't known him for t oo long, but i do know that he has been driving longer than most people on this forum. he has owned more fixed up cars that most people here. hell, he has been into the S-chassis for some 10+ years. had a s13 hatchback when they first came out. and he didnt keep it stock either. he knew about SR20 motors while some of you were probably in grade school.

i expect high prices for rare items such as these kei coilovers, i don't know how many of you are able to get a similar good condition set for much much less, most shops don't carry it and it's not in the for sale threads, the only other way of getting it is to wait half a year for people to ship it from japan, so in that sense, i think he was just willing to shell out the dough for a rare item, i don't think he got majorly screwed over,
but for that price, i'd rather just buy the other brands because of the support here... i doubt alot of you would be able to tell the difference in terms of performance between quality coilovers...

Moving to the "discussion" part of the forum, I did take my car out on a few canyon runs since i got my coilovers. They are pretty stiff even with no preload. The shocks are set on 8 smack in the middle. I'm running stock se tire sizes all around, 205/55 r16, Falken Azenis. I definitely still have to learn the capabilities and behavior of my car before I can set up my coilovers. There are 2-3 canyons that we ran that I plan to get a feel for and learn the rhythm of the turns by running them on a regular basis. The guys i went with have been driving there for the past 5-6 years. They know the road like the back of their hand so it's pretty safe running with them. It was pretty amazing because they took corners at speeds that i couldn't imagine. Having an sr doesn't really matter on the canyons because they both have ka's and they ran rings around me haha. I'm humble enough to admit that I have much to learn about driving. In the meantime I'll be attending more drifting events to get to know my car better. I gotta start somewhere.

They came with pillowball mounts. They have 2500 miles and were on an AUTOMATIC bone stock s14. I saw them on the car before I bought them. The rubber bushing is on the spring seat. The d1 spec has a metal bushing on the spring seat so it's really harsh. Good luck finding kei office coilovers for $800.

Maybe I am confused, he did pay $300 less for them, that is a discounted price is it not? And besides they only had 2500 miles on them. So lets figure the math here $1700 (used) is about 15% less than $1980 (new). Now if you figure that a set of coilovers can go lets say 30000 mi. before a rebuild and he only has 27500 to work with (remember they are used) then he only has about 92% of the coilovers expected life left. So my logic says that he paid 85% value for something that has 92% of its life left, sounds like a good deal to me he is up 7%.

Just learn to let someone enjoy their new stuff. Who know maybe they will pass on the favor when you spend $200 on a shiny new B&M short throw and I yell at you because I got mine for $175.

Fair enough. I too like upgrading my car, but there are MANY parts that I've bought that I remove because they are not up-to-par. I typically spend a LOT of time researching parts before I buy them, the B&M was one of the items that I really liked but it really pissed me off the first few weeks as I spent TOO much time trying to diagnose what was causing the shifter to rattle. Then I fuckin broke down in a fury of anger and ripped the thing apart and found the culprit. I think they make a quality product but I think their customer service department needs work.
