I've been getting into the curvies quite a bit lately, and I was just wondering, what is the best setup for gripping the road? Are larger rims better, or just for looks? Also, i'm guessing that the wider the better?

Taller rims with lower profile tires have less sidewall flex giving a more direct quick acting steering(more fun.)

Wider tires are better until you go across something slippery, then you want narrow tires to apply more pressure on the road. I know someone who had a Porshe 914 with massive flares and extremly wide tires, if you drove the car in the rain while going strait you could go lock to lock and never change direction any.

hmm, so all around how would a 6.5 or 7 inch rim be on a daily driver?

a good all around wheel is 16x7.5". The rim will weigh less than 17's and 18's; your sidewalls will be taller for more cushion on less-than-friendly roads but they're small enough to give good handling with good tires; they aren't so wide that you have to worry about hydroplaning but they're wide enough for good dry weather traction; it's just a good all around wheel. If you want bigger, don't go over 17's for performance driving. You can go wider--up to at least 9"--but be careful in the wet.

17x7.5 is the best IMHO. For style and twisties and dailiy driveablility.

yea go with 17's i was reading an article on the viper when it got new 18's instead of the 17's it had the previous years and the vertical g's droped from like 98 to 93 or something. i dont know why 17 are better because theres more sidwall to felx than in an 18. id say you get them staggered that way your car wont have a tendace to make its rear happy. get like 8.5in in back and 7.5in in front or maybe just 8.0in in back

staggering....bah! I say:)
You can't rotate the tires and the car isn't normally tail happy anyway...it's a well balanced car. Mostly, what oversteer you encounter is power oversteer...which should be controlled with throttle modulation. I'd just run 8.5 or 9" on all 4 corners.

Mark, do they make 7.5 wide rims in a 4-lug? I've got an s13.

some big-sidewalled 15s

The lighter the wheel the less rotational mass you have and the better your handeling will be as well as acceluration. If you can get some 17" Volk TE37's then you would be set. But then we all dont have 2k$ to blow on wheels.

Lightweight little rims with a HUGE sidewall is what you want for drag racing. You want a big sidewall so you can deflate the tire so it will have more flex and therefore it gives you more traction.

They do make 17x7.5, you just have to find the right company who makes them. My 5Zigen wheels I had on my s13 were 4 lug 17x7.5's.

check www.wheelmax.com , they have a lot of 4 lug 17 X 7.5 rims there.

Another dope place to get wheels and tires would be http://www.whalentire.com

They don't charge you up the ass for shipping like Wheelmax does. >/ However, Wheelmax has a much nicer selection. Also check http://www.importhookup.com/wheeloptions/info.htm for a special deal on 15"-18" wheels like 5-Zigen, Dronell, Axis, Racing Hart, Advan, Volk Racing (no tires), etc. The wheel packages come with Kumho Escta Supra tires and it's free shipping. You can also call them up for a price quote and get a good deal on whatever wheels wheeloptions.com has. #### I wish I had money.

thanks for the whalentire link, i've never been there before. i found these on there:
http://www.whalentire.com/wheels/adr/pictures/dv8black.jpg
but they had to put white lettering on there. if it's free shipping it's like 1k w/ kumho ecsta supras for 17 x 7's. they're the only black rims they have there. now i'm gonna check out that other link .

If you check out the Japanese magazines that feature 180 SX's, the most popular setup (for over 5 years) has been 205/55/16(X7) for the front and 225/50/16(X8) for the rear.
