hii, i juz had a question about doing peels in rwd cars, cuz i see all those really nice peels where the car's totally stationary, and i was wondering how ppl did that
cuz if u use the brake, it applies pressure to all 4 wheels rite?
and if u use the e-brake, it sonly the rear wheels, so how can they get the front ones not to move while burning up the back ones?

power braking...that's what it's called. with a stick, I've always wondered how to keep it stationary like you're talking. but my friends Dakota R/T could power brake for days. no joke. but I'm not sure, the only way to find out is the try it. I mean just push the brake and punch the throttle. or, you could throw it in neutral, rev it quite a ways, and hit it down to drive (for auto's), but I don't know how stationary it would stay.

Rev the engine up to like 5000 rpms (in first gear)
Dump the clutch
Slam on the brakes
yea you rev to max torque (i think its a little lower s13 girl) somewhere in the 3000 to 4000rpm range. then while in 1st gear dump the cluth as fast as you can. i wouldnt recomend putting the brakes cause then the wheels stop spinning. you probably wont be stationary for long. you need a s&^t load of torque to do that. anywho just keep the rpms in the same spot at max torque and you should be ok. i did it with my moms jetta and i stayed put for like 3sec and shes only got 127ft-lbs of torque

Yeah dude, drop the clutch, peel out, but before you start catching and go forward, hit the brakes. 70% of your braking force is on the front wheels. You don't need to stomp the brakes. Just enough to keep you from going forward, so you don't melt off all your rear pads. or shoes in my case.
oh my bad didnt know that much of the force was in the front

can someone explain dropping the clutch, somebody told me to put the clutch in, but i thought it was letting off the clutch.
dumping the clutch is letting go of the clutch

k, that's what i always thought, cuz it didn't make sense to put the clutch in. maybe the guy misunderstood me when i talked to him about peeling out.

this i feel is the bast way to peel out in a 240. turn the wheel rev to 4000 and dump it. she will peel out like an animal dont let off till about 6000 then bang 2nd and ride it out.

With sasquatch sized feet like mine, I just use my right foot to hold the brake AND apply pressure to the gas pedal. . then I rev and dump the clutch... can peel out for awhile. =)

Don't you clutch in when you let go of the clutch? Or does clutch in mean pressing the clutch pedal down?
really bad for your rear brakes...

Yeah, your brakes will take it. But what about your tires. I wouldn't dare try to put on a smoke show with new expensive rubber.
But hey, my money tree is starting to sprout.

i think i need new rear brakes again........
i think my rear pads are gone again, i put them in, in July...... i should check them soon...... they are making a horrible noise again when i go in reverse

Sounds like you have a squeeler.
I traded cars with my dad for a couple weeks so I could use his truck for some work I was doing (I don't live with my dad). I get it back and the brakes are squeeling like mad. It started the day I gave it to him. He didn't call me, didn't get it checked and when I finally took a look at it. I was at like 1% in the front (if that's possible). I had no brake left. Smart guy.

i changed all the pads in july and put in new disc in the front.... i think it is about time i change the rear disc (####, but i'll wait)
but i think i killed the rear brake pads from doing brake stands....

Has anyone put a "line lock" I know some supra guy that have done this...Let me explain what a line lock is. Basiclly you have a button that will apply the front brakes only keeping the car in one spot so you can do your burn out to warm up the tires. you can get these kits at almost any musles car shop the Mustang and F-body guys have been useing these for ever.

Just do a 300zx brake upgrade, guaranteed to keep from going anywhere.

I have the same problem. I thought it was that old lady that I ran over stuck by my cat-back, but it turns out it's the brakes. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Just kidding.
Anyway, I need to replace my rear pads. The weather is horrible out here, and I was really looking forward to doing it myself, but I guess it's gonna have to be a shop. Sometime soon...

you guys should look into the line lock it will save money one brake pads
just rewire your E-Brake to the front....if that is possible hehe

its not that difficult guys. to put it in simple terms for the original questions askers who didnt seem to get it:
1. press in the clutch pedal with your left foot all the way
2. ease onto the guess until the tach hits in the 4500-5000 range (this isnt your max torque, but unless you want to kill your drivetrain, overdo it and release the pedal some when you dump the clutch)
3. now as fast as you can, pull your foot off the gas pedal and let the clutch go, while going to WOT (wide open throttle)
if you have an auto...get a manual. trying to burnout with an automatic is retarded. if you have a torque monster and dont mind hurting your brakes too much, or have a line lock, you can select first and punch it. however, if you try to rev it in neutral and put it into drive with or without gas while the engine still has any significant rev on it, you WILL find yourself picking up hundreds of little chunks of metal from underneith your car.
oh well. that'd be a good excuse to go ahead and get that manual transmission you really wish you had

wait, first u said take it to 4k-5k rpms
and then as fast as i could, unclutch and take foot off gas pedal, while at WOT, that woul dhave to mean that i'd hafta floor it first, and then take both off as fast as possible?
or do u mean take foot OFF the clutch but press harder ON the gas?
LanceS13
11-14-2001, 11:06 PM
yeah...don't take your foot off the gas...otherwise the revving would be pointless.
And mistert, max torque does occur between 4500 and 5000...4800 to be exact.

That's gonna launch you, not let you stay in place and burn rubber.
LanceS13
11-15-2001, 09:52 AM
it's not gonna launch you if you break traction...you normally launch down around 3000-3500, before max torque. Just dump it at 5K and put about half pressure on the breaks.
ahh just forget about it and wait till a rainy day and FLOOR IT ALL THE WAY....yup...thats it...

Heres a little advice, DONT DO BURN OUTS IN FIRST GEAR, not only will you throw you clutch into #### you also if you do it too hard especially with slicks will tear your rear end to pieces...
Put your car in second, rev up the engine slowly enough so it wont die, put your foot on the break and then floor it and flutter the gas...burnouts should always start in second gear..
Now as for standing still, if you want you could try taking your fuse out of your abs and see if that helps loosen up your rear end..

hey streetpower...in auto's or manual's? I figured if you did it in first, it may burn the clutch a tad, but not a lot. I have a stick Sentra, and I can tell when my clutch is burning (smell and feel when switching gears) and I always can peel out in first or second. but usually in first. I dont' do it often, but only when I really feel like getting on it. but you talkin auto or man?
