I know that there was a thread just recently about peeling out but i got to ask one question...doesn't it Fu$k up the tranny??? I mean, i know it feels good to hear ur car peel out and just kick somebody's ass but isn't it just wearing down the tranny and then eventually it's going to break? It happened to my friend, he had a stick '90 ford probe and he went to peel out and it just blew, now im second guessing myself about peeling out. I know peeling out in an automatic is probably worse because the main focus is on the tranny, but does the clutch take some of the focus off of the tranny in a stick car or is it equally as bad as like in an automatic?

If his clutch is bad, then yeah; it'll help screw it up. But it really isn't a HUGE damage factor. I mean, it isn't the best thing to do for your car.

There is more of a shock involved than with normal driving. I mean...the tranny is going from 0 to several thousand rpm of input in like less than a second. But it would probably burn your clutch faster than it would damage the tranny. Just don't do it often and it should be fine.

so that means that if u get a new clutch then u can peel out all u want and nothing will happen to the tranny?

Thanks, Lance, that's exactly what I wanted to say .

(If his clutch is bad, he may end up burning what's left of it and not moving from where he last was without a tow truck.)

If you get a new clutch and do burnouts, it'll just burn the clutch faster. The tranny doesn't get immediately damaged.

Look at it this way. Peeling out is hard on all driveline compontents. It stresses the u-joints in your driveshaft, the spider gears in your diff, the transmission and clutch. However, the vehicle can take it. If you're driving a 300,000 mile car, then yeah, I wouldn't do it, but if you're not just peeling out every time you start off, don't worry about it. It'll kill your tires before you break a major part.

Am I the only one thinking, "WHY?"

I can give you about 10 reasons why not...

i c no use for it, cuz i really don't need to get my tires ready for a run, but sometimes i like to do it right before a short turn or something.

nope

Anytime you do something that puts severe stress on a part, you risk breaking it. It should be able to handle it...but there are no guarantees, especially if it's high-mileage like chickenmanq said. You might be worried about your tranny doing burnouts when you snap your driveshaft while launching to race someone. The best thing to do (unless you have a low deductible or something) is to put a way about $1K and don't spend it on upgrades...use it to fix stuff when sh!t happens.

I figure that just driving the car is to much stress on the car. So I made room for it in my living room and parked it there where it won't get hurt. It makes a nice conversation peice and I sometimes sit in it and pretend I'm driving it, it's great nothing breaks cause I never put any wear on it

240sxspeedracer, not exactly. I just got a new clutch in last week (Sentra). all it does, depending on the slave cylinder and how much you adjust it. my new clutch lets me peel out so easily now. I've done it MAYBE three times, but just to show off to my friends because they think my car can't do it. now they know, so I won't do it anymore...well I won't say anymore, but for a while. the clutch before this one, was straight burnt out, and I could feel it hurting the tranny sometimes. I felt so bad for my car!! but now that I have a new clutch in, it doens't feel like it hurts my tranny. so just because you get a new clutch doesn't mean that you're not hurting your tranny.

i tied a rope on my front bumper and pulled it through the window. though it would be easyer than taking it in the door.

I heard probes don't have good tranny to begin with. It's domestic rice out crying out loud. Die you probes.

11-12-2001, 11:11 PM
if you burn out your fisrt things to go are the obvious that prev people said already tires, clutch. you then run risks of other internal damage i.e. you can warp your flywheel (the thing the clutch actually makes contact with) driveshaft as already mentioned and your diff. its nothing that is needed for the car. it is not ment to be driven like that.

basically you will be causing premature wear on your car. why burn out? let the ricey hondas do it and let it be . learn to drift i think that would be way cooler than burn outs

"domestic rice"....it's like Talon and Eclipse...hhehe....same everything but just with a domestic badge on it so the domestic folks who really cravez for import cars can go get one...only because if they got a ECLIPSE they would lose face with there friend...so they go and buy a Talon..oh yeah it's a Domestic...hahah...dodge stealth = 3000GT, probe = MX6, Talon = eclipse....and what else.....

I guess the point some of us were trying to make is "why would you want to beat on your car for no reason?"

I could see doing it to warm up your drag radials at the strip, but on street tires, it serves no functional purpose. I'm all for driving my car to its limits, but I don't see any reason to rag on it for no reason. That said, there are many reasons (listed here and in the other post) why NOT to do it... but aside from "impressing" somebody - none offered as to WHY.

BTW: when I was 18, I worked as a "porter" at a import dealer. The two cars that could lay the most rubber - the length of the shop bay - Toyota Tercel and Toyota PU. Impressive, huh?

It feels good to have hot tires.

My mom said I can't bring my car inside because it obstructs the view to the television. She also said there isn't enough room for it in the hallway. I don't understand...
