Alright so here we go, I bought a vert with auto tranny that was shot. I finally pull the dang thing out and the 4 bolts that hold the flex plate to the torque converter were all sheered off and cause a bunch of damage.. see below..

But here's the issue... when I pulled the flex plate off and look for the pilot bearing... I don't see one? any ideas? or should I just say F it and carry on?

Looks like someone pulled the transmission and never replaced the pilot. You are going to need a new flexplate anyway so as long as the crank is not damaged just carry on, that is for you to judge though because its hard to tell the real extent of those scratches at the back.

Oh i'm swapping to 5speed. That's what I was thinking, whoever swapped it didn't put it back in, and finally caused those 4 bolts to bite the dust. The back of the block looks perfectly fine, thanks to the dust cover taking the full beating. You think it could have messed up the crank?
