I'm having some feel-dumb moments over here, since it's been about 8 years since i've done hubs on my car.
So I had a rear wheel bearing go bad (or so it sounds). The old hub was an oem used Z32 hub. I had a brand new ichiba 5 lug hub left over from the pair I bought when the other side went bad a couple years ago. (I didn't do the install on that side)
Anyway, so I have an S13 with Z32 rear aluminum spindles.
So my two questions are as follows:
After removing my old hub, there was grease all over everything, and the ring that sits in the spindle itself was pretty trashed. (so I replaced it with another one from a spare upright). I notice that the S13 hubs never had these rings, and was wondering what they are for, if I need them, and or if they are affecting anything or will they cause any problems.
Here is a picture of the difference in the spindles, and as you can see, the aluminum z32 upright has the ring. it is part rubber, and I think part metal.
(disregard the red circles, I'm talking about the center of the spindle where the hub/axle goes)

My other question has to do with the hub spinning freely. When I put the hub on, with the axle through it and everything, I can turn the hub by hand, without exerting too much force. However, after I tighten the axle nut, I can no longer turn the hub by hand. Is this because it is causing the hub to be out of form somehow? Is this a problem? Should I not tighten the nut so much? I've heard of 3 other people who've had this similar problem, (specific to ichiba hubs) and have read people posting about it on the forums, but haven't heard any solution or conclusion to what's going on.
Any insight on either issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben
