Hey guys im pretty new to this whole forum thing so don't mind my noobness please. soooo i got a 240sx ka24de and on my fuel injectors just 2 pintle caps are not on, one was missing the other was broken so i took it off. My car is put together and I drove it around, not far distances or anything but do you guys recommend not driving w/o those pintle caps or is it okay to drive atleast short distances? thanks in advance

they hold the injector o-rings in place.. if the seal moves it will hydro lock & flood your engine with gas.. dont drive it

Hey, cool, I was just wondering where I could get a few of those. I've got one that I had to cut off a bad injector, and wrap around a good one....
But dude, they do NOT hold the o-rings on, they have something to do with swirl/atomization (and maybe keeping nasty egr stuff off the tip of the injector).
If your o-ring is that far down once the injector is installed, it's already been blown out of it's seat and into the manifold, and you're flooding.

you sure you know what a pintle cap is? looks like it holds the o ring in place to me? You ever held an injector? You understand how an o-ring works?
It's compressed between the flange on the bottom hole in the fuel rail, and the seat above it on the injector.
If you had those things holding your o-rings in place, you'd be in trouble.
By chance, they hold the o-ring on so that it won't fall off if you're just holding the injector, but once it's installed, it has nothing to do with the o-ring or a good seal.
If you have to install an injector without one of them (obviously not ideal) just grease the lower o-ring heavily to hold it on. (you should always use lots of vaseline or dielectric grease on o-rings, or they can rip when you put them in).

why are you contradicting yourself?? they either hold the o ring in place or they dont. you really are a mechanicalmoron

Do you wanna give me a tutorial ir some kind of instructions i could follow step by step taking off the fuel rail and installing the pintle caps? I believe i have new o-rings as well or whatever else goes on the injector. It'd be a big help

i use a hot water trick to install these caps without breaking them. heat them for a few minutes so they soften up. fit on much easier.

I would take everything mechanicalmoron says with a grain of salt(or just ignore). He proved that he does not know what he is talking about over in the LS argument thread a few times. They may not be the only thing holding the oring but they add support.

They just so happen to hold the o-ring on if you're holding the injector in your hand. Once it's in the car, they do not.

You seem to be another one who has never held an injector. You have a picture, and I have a picture, illustrating the distance down to the pintle cap, which is not contacting the o-ring at all once the injector is installed (unless the ring blows out, in which case the cap will do nothing).

OP, if you take out the fuel rail to do the caps (and if you don't have leak issues) you don't need the o-rings, I guess. If you take the injectors out of the rail, you should really replace each o-ring, especially the lower ones, as they tend to tear when removed. If you take out the rail, it's on a manifold bolt or two, which sucks, and if you take out the injectors individually, it reeeeally sucks, and then sucks some more, it's simple but hard to get them to budge, especially with the position you have to be in to get at 3 and 4.

Still don't care what you say, you have already proven you talk out of your ass so why would anyone read what you have to say and trust it.
My injectors have the pintle cap butt right up to the oring, it may not be the only thing holding it in place like I said.
And wtf are you talking about at the bottom there? It is pretty simple to get injectors out. Simple but hard? WTF are you talking about, you really like to contradict yourself.

Even if your o-ring was flush with the cap, the ring is compressed by the lower side of the rail and the ledge above it on the injector body. The cap simply has nothing to do with it seating, sealing, or with retaining it in place.
Is english your second language? It is more simple to remove the injectors individually, but it is (or can be) hard as hell to get them to pop out. These are not contradictory concepts. Simple does not mean easy. Juggling transmissions is a simple concept, but is not an easy feat.

Easy could be a synonym in some contexts. In this context, it's not involved or complicated, but does require a great deal of effort (and possibly endurance, depending on how badly stuck they are).
Pretty simple.
Go back and attack me in the LS thread, you're grasping at straws here.

Threads closed so yeah no fun left there. Anyways if you mean its a simple concept but a hard procedure how about you say that? Pretty simple right?

Ahh well, this is fun too.
I did say that, it's not necessary to spell everything out like I'm writing a textbook, because we all speak english (to some degree) and casual english doesn't require that. I said that it's simple, but hard, and most people would see that and rather than assuming that I'm trying to contradict myself, assume that it's.... simple, but hard.
Effectively, the context is a modifier, and given the context, that is what I said.

yes; but it will be easier to install the caps off the rail but its a pita to remove the injectors from the rail.

Okay thanks. Its my first time fuckin with furl rail and that area of a car so id rather just leave the injector in before i do any harm. I haven't been able to legitly drive my car for over 2 months :smash:

You also need o-rings.
Assuming you have the patience (and leather gloves) to pull the injectors, that should be MUCH easier. Take em out, refresh all the o-rings and caps, grease them (lots) with dielectric or vaseline or some other clean/clear petrolium grease/gel, and pop them in. You have to take out manifold bolts otherwise..... don't want to risk breaking that gasket, then you have a WHOLE mess of work on your hands.
IMO anyways.

Yeah i had all that. Thanks i managed to get em out though I only replaced the lower o-rings on all of em the upper one was fine. Got the caps in with the socket method.
