Uhmmm

I MIGHT be online in a more fulltime status in another month or two. Until then, I have to goof off at the library here on base. Whee. Anyone on mainland that wants to get together or find me a car to drive shoot me an email thru Zilvia and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Oh.. And pics will go up when I get a stable internet connection.

Ok, I've gotta be quick.. so many things to do... I don't think I'll be able to relax or have fun until ~July/August.

Yeah, I've seen Silvias/180s/Skylines.. Silvias and low-end Skylines are a dime a dozen, most are crappy or automatic or ugly, or a combination thereof. The K's Silvias or nice 180s or Nice GTRs I've seen I can count on my hands (or my toes if you like).

Paul: I'd love to, but seeing as how I won't have my SOFA license until the 24th, and I still don't have a car, uhmmm.. It's not happening.

Douche: Come out here and we'll see about some wheels, aight? Don't worry about the fanders, man.. Water under the bridge.. By the time I get back, I'll have rolling down to an art.

ch1873857: uhmmmm... k....

Blian: thanks for the words, brother. All the zenki s14s here are weaksauce. I miss yours (even with KA!). pics of bird WILL come.

PJ: I'll be sure to pee in it before I wrap and send it. :D PM me, bro!

Glad: where are you? maybe we can meet up sometime after I get a car.

Marky Mark: yeah yeah yeah yeah. PM me!

CSI: LA : thanks dude. I'll send PM (or email) when I have more time.

Gray: send all the lists you want. I'll be sure to buy it all and not give you any of it. :D

Charles: dude.. if i took pics of ALL the engrish I've seen, I'd have no HD space left.

Steelies: ha. ha. ha ha. If you find white powder in your mail, it's sugar, put it in your coffee. Promise. as far as your pfc.. uhmm.. let me find you another one, maybe. used parts can be worrisome sometimes.

mbmbmbmbmbmbmbmbmbmbmb: yeah, i plan on it. might have to get JDM tYte bank account first.

pandapanda: w0rd.

G_Fishbait: i'm having a good time so far.. It's not bad.

Ok, I never got to finish what I was typing earlier.

Let's see... JDMVille is cool so far. I haven't gotten to play out in town yet, but it won't be long. I don't get to drive until I take a retarded driving class, but hopefully that'll happen next week, otherwise it'll be the 24th.
It sucks not having a car to drive.
Oh, get this. you can't BUY a car (according to the Navy) until you get a base license.

Hey Kev,
Glad you guys are doing fine.
Drop me an email, I just pick up my tickets for Tokyo.
Getting a license is not that important, learn how to take the subway is.
Oh, and find someone to get ride alone is not hard either.
Anyway, drop me an email.

John: How would I know them!? lol

Coasty: Both our cars are in dry storage till we get back. :D

Dangerous Dave: when we get a number i'll get it to you.. We're still debating what to do about that.. if we get cellphones or what.

Steelies: uh huhuhuhuh you said 'crack'

now.. let's see.. so far the weather has been interesting. warm and humid the day we arrived, warm and dry the next day, cool and humid the next with showers that evening, and hot and humid today. whee. It only gets worse too. Looks like Lisa's getting her base license on monday, and i'll get mine the next monday. I'm glad, because the sooner we get that crap, the sooner we're off foot patrol.
We're eyeing a few cars right now... keep in mind that these are only for daily drive/grocery getter/kid hauler..
'92 Nissan Sunny wagon 1.5l
53k km
$600
'94ish Subaru Legacy Wagon
94k km
$1k
96 Skyline 4 door
$2500

we're still looking for the elusive $100 or free deals, but they're proving to be difficult to find, plus we don't want a 2 door... and for the family car, we want an automagic.
We MIGHT be looking at a '91 180 soon, but they want $4k.. it had better be mega-hotness for $4k.. like.. vertex aero, 350+ps, crazy suspension, etc. However, it's probably just rice-tuned with a few bolt-ons.. *shrug*

with People PC'sing all the time im sure you want have a hard time finding a cheap or free car. We got a Toyota Town Ace (its not much, an old van) for free.

and the 180 prob has some moods, while i was there i rarely saw a stock 180 or silvia, most cars, like 99 percent i saw for sale came with suspenson, areo, and rims, exhaust, and other stuff, 3k is what i usually saw them go for

mrmephistopheles
05-14-2004, 03:21 AM
i can't WAIT to get online @ home instead of using these library computers...

brian-R: meh. they're cheap and only 'so' good. We want a CHEAP car for now to get around in, then we find a 'NICE' car (VIPish or such.. I'm leaning towards a nice Gloria, MkII, Chaser, Q45 or maybe just a cheap ER34 if we can find one), then we sell the CHEAP car and find the DRIFT car. It'd be best to start with stock, but I don't feel like spending $15k+ building a car if i can get a pre-built one for 4-5k.. I'll be looking at Silvias (S13/S14) and 180s..

Some cars are mad cheap here (some guy is sellng a BMW 850i for $5300 with 72k km) and others are... not so cheap..

It's funny how different the cars are here.. 'S13 SE' 240sx wheels are ALL over the place on Nissan's cars.. The kouki 180/base s14 'mesh' wheels are sold on the Nissan Serena (minivan) too..

G_Funk: yeah the 180 is modded, I just don't know how poorly.. :-\ we'll see.

Glad: thx for the PM. I'd love to hang out, but I don't know the trains yet. I have an orientation class next month to learn me about them.. That, and I don't know how far Yokota is away.. I know I'm only about ~30min away from Daikoku Futo by road..
I used to be a jarhead, now I'm a civilian.. Lisa's the squid, attached to the ty Kitty..

I can't promise but I might be able to come to Atsugi and show you around a bit. I have been up there (Tokyo) many times and the trains are great. You could easily live in the Tokyo area and never own a car. When I get the actual date nailed down I'll shoot you a line. If things work out we'll hook up...if not...what the heck...we tried.

Being over there must kick so much ass.....

Hopefully I'll be following, in a sense, in a bit more than a year. I'll be heading over there to be an english teacher. You have it easier than I will, though. Glad: cool beans... I'd like for you to meet the wife & kid.. I'll keep an eye out for a PM or email from you. Oh, and that 180.. I think I found it on my run this morning.. it's a PILE. Hatch looked like it had 4 different wings in it's life, interior was stripped and ricified. I'll email Matada when we're ready to buy the fun car.. unless he deals in VIPish cars as well.. I'll email him and see what's up.

Grant: you're next on my list of folks to call. No BS.

Choku: I was thinking of your posts when we drove past Daikoku.. lol
If you get to come back out, let us know!

We looked at a '94 Chaser yesterday.. it was the Avante 2.5 .. not bad, but $2k :-/
Lisa liked it, but I champagne colored cars and brown interiors. I saw a black 96ish Gloria Gran Turismo seemingly abandoned just off base.. :D
Glad, do you know anything about claiming abandoned cars? It seemingly only needs wheels and a key, but it could have a blown motor..

Not really. Jr has his eye on an old Celica. It has been parked near our house and not JCIed since 1997. He is going to put note on it to the owner and see if he can buy it. He has plans to drop a 2jz and drive train into it. The car is really in nice shape...just neglected.

many abandoned cars off base have been deregistered. If that is the case you are out of luck. Once a car has been deregistered you can never reregister it.

05-18-2004, 07:35 PM
oh well.. i'll look into it more later..
we bought a temporary grocery-getter in the meantime... a '94 subaru legacy WagGun (the name I've given this car) It's green. it's automagic. it has power windows AWD and ABS. it was $1k.
We're still looking for a nice car, but this'll do in the meantime, and i'm confident we can get what we paid for it when we go to sell it.

more than anything, i'm just stoked we can drive to yellow hat or autobacs and go part-shopping. that, and the whole walking everywhere we needed to go thing was getting sorta old.

hey Gray, if you'd sold me those chuki skirts way back when, i'd GLADLY get you a pair of kouki skirts.. in fact i saw 2 koukis day before yesterday.. it sucked.. i had to go back to the hotel and change pants twice. 'dry' humping, my ass.

no worries, dude. I'm still hunting for a 'nice' car to drive. Saw a 750iL rolling around with a for sale sign, but they didn't stop, so I couldn't see what they wanted (or what number to call).
I'm not meeting many 'drifters' or even car enthusiasts here yet, although I have seen a few NICE hachis and some fairly heavily modified 180s (albiet somewhat less tastefully than i'd prefer).

We broke our Autobacs cherry the other day visiting a small one just a few km away (right off R246). It was nice, but it wasn't a SUPER Autobacs. There was a pretty nice green FD in front (pics will come when I get back online for good), and a interesting looking MkIV Poopra.

CSI:LA - lol Dunno dude.. talk to Changbang and ask him about his recent ticket drama and see if you still want to play cars as much. Reading his blogs is making me glad I'm here.

Glad: You've piqued my interest.. do you know where I could find pics/full specs on said S14? I checked that groups' website
Yeah their webmaster has been a bit preoccupied of late. Corey is working on a new website for the Iwakuni bunch. I'll dig up George's email and get it to you.

I'll be in Tokyo Monday night....and be spending the week at Yokota for training. I'll try to get in touch with you and maybe we can hook up.

Holy carp. I TOTALLY forgot to mention that I got to meet dstyle (Chris) the other day. I'd actually typed it and hit 'post dat chit, yo'!'m but IE ate doodies and it didn't post. Then I'd forgotten what i'd posted originally, etc.
Anyway, Chris is cool, and I hope I didn't make him late for class. Oh, and when he paid $500 for his K's Silvia, he robbed them BLIND. Dang.

B-wave: sorry.. I'm not into Chinpokomon. I'm all about the Hello Kitty and Badtz-maru

Choku: oooh awesome. If i DO see any of them, I'll be sure to rev on them.

PT: I should've given it back to you before we left, but it inadvertently got packed. My bad. I'll make it up to you. :D

Glad: that'd be appreciated. I'll send you a PM with my email address if that makes it easier. When you get into town (or while you're on Yokota) Try calling me here on the base (Navy Lodge Room 215).. Or wait.. did you send me your cell #? I need to check.

I FINALLY met some people here on Atsugi.. One guy has a nice 180 he bought from Great Company (who are apparently only about 30 minutes away), another guy has a 180 (with a CA19DET) that he's built pretty much by himself (and it's turned out quite nicely).
I found where some junkyards are, and Lisa, Emma and I are going on a field trip tomorrow. :D

C'est tout.

New chit:
Found junkyards, but can't speak japanese. :-/
Found tuned car dealers but prices are too high. :-/
Found R32 GTR wheels. :-) but they want ~100000yen for them.
Talked to Gladhatter on the phone today. We were supposed to meet up for a burger or something, but it looks like it'll have to be later in the week. He's staying in the New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo. I hear those are some fine digs.

Watched Drift Tengoku Video magazine vol 21. It's good. You get to see the 'Gal Ikaten' The chick who wins could beat most anyone on this board.
There's a good piece on how to re-route your fender arch wiring harness into your engine bay in ~3 hours with no wire cutting... (for S14, anyway)
It's a good video.

oh. You guys are going to this one...
Found a kouki S14 (silver, stock aero, exhaust and it's a Qs auto) for $3500. lol
I'm not touching it. it's pretty, but it wouldn't be as much fun as a car I could get for cheaper. Plus, i'd to crash it.

Anyhoo.

I should be online regularly in... 3 weeks, maybe? look out, too.. i'm gonna turn this place upside down.

well, i think Lisa and I have decided to put off buying a 'fun' car until we get our new TV and surround sound.. that, and we don't really feel like dumping alot of money on a pre-built car (even though we have seen some DAMN nice ones..)

got to meet Gladhatter last night.. no, there wasn't any showdown or rumble.... He's a nice guy! We went for some BBQ here on base and BS'd about cars... it was nice being able to talk to someone you've never met before, and yet have been familiar with. That, and it's a break from not knowing anybody here.
Anyway, hope you got back to Yokota ok, man! I think Lisa and I will try to head out that way before you leave. We'd like to tour that area, and it'd be nice to have a guide who's been there awhile.

JDM quality?? I think not. Most of that stuff is made in Korea, Taiwan, China, or India. It sucks for the Japanese manufactureres. A lot of them lost their jobs similar to the U.S. But yea, 100 yen store is still ok. I bought a basketball pump and after 2 years of use, it finally broke! XE.com converts that to $929.20, which is high...but...I've seen a pair of those rims on ebay ONCE, ....selling for $1,500 used (obviously). They are super rare...and hot.......of course if a BMW 850 is selling for $5k...then the price of those rims is a bit disproportionate.

Anyhow.....keep up the good work with the Imagestation pics.....good stuff. Get some good pics of the aftermarket shops (Up-garage..etc.) inventories. I know its used stuff....but its fun to see that stuff.

You are near a whole bunch of cool junkyards where you are. Have you been to the auto hobby shop yet? Some people there can give you directions. I probably could but I have not been there for 3 years so who knows what has changed!

Which Up Garage did you go to? If it the one I think it is you are only about 3 miles from the "skyline heaven" junkyard. basically an all Nissan junkyard.

Bee R racing is close by there as well.
